When Ning Wan rushed home, Ning Yanshu was sitting quietly at the bottom of the stairs.
Xu Xiufeng advised him, "Yanshu, why don't you go to your aunt's house and wait for your mother to come back?"
Ning Yanshu stubbornly shook his head.
He knew very well that what he had done today must have made his mother angry.
He had to wait here for his mother to return so he could kowtow to her and admit his mistake...
...
After a day apart, Ning Yanshu's face and body were dirty and disheveled.
There were also abrasions of varying degrees all over his body.
Even his pants were gone, and he looked as if he had just escaped from some mountain ravine.
They were in a terrible state.
On the steps next to him sat another man.
But the man was different from the one Ning Wan saw in the surveillance video.
His overly long and messy hair obscured his face, making it impossible for Ning Wan to see his features clearly.
Hearing the noise coming from the stairs, Ning Yanshu looked up and saw Ning Wan.
He stood up, grinned, and happily said, "Mom, Dad and I are back!"
Before she could fully grasp the meaning behind Ning Yanshu's words, Ning Wan was both surprised and delighted to see him return safely.
After the initial joy of regaining their lost child came overwhelming anger.
She grabbed Ning Yanshu's hand and picked him up.
Then she pulled down Ning Yanshu's boxer shorts and slapped his bottom several times: "Where have you been all day?! Do you know how worried your mother was?!"
Ning Yanshu burst into tears.
Large tears fell one after another, pattering down her cheeks. The intermittent sobs echoed throughout the stairwell.
Hearing the commotion, Zhao Shuigen, who was inside the house, went out to check, somewhat puzzled.
Xu Xiufeng stood at the door, smiling and waving at him to indicate that everything was alright.
Having also spent the whole day in fear, she completely understood Ning Wan's feelings.
If it were her, she probably would have been even more ruthless...
...
When her mother hit her, Ning Yanshu couldn't tell whether she felt more wronged or more afraid.
He cried out pitifully, calling out, "Mommy, Mommy..."
Ning Wan is not soft-hearted.
She didn't hold back her strength at all: "Who gave you permission to leave the kindergarten without permission? Who gave you permission to run around everywhere! Do you know how much you've worried your mother and how many people have been frightened because of you?"
Ning Wan rarely gets angry.
But when he gets angry, he looks terrifying.
The man who had been sitting quietly next to Ning Yanshu shrank back in fear and quietly moved back a step...
...
Ning Yanshu's little bottom was slapped until it was bright red, and the palm prints were clearly visible.
Gradually, the crying lost its strength.
He sobbed softly as he apologized, "I'm sorry, Mom, Xiaoshu was wrong... I'm sorry... Waaah..."
Ning Wan's raised hand hung in mid-air, unable to fall back down.
She sighed helplessly, helped Ning Yanshu stand up straight, and put on his pants: "Tell me, why did you skip school? Why did you leave kindergarten alone?"
Ning Yanshu wiped away her tears and choked out, "Wang Zihao said I don't have a dad, and I just want to find him... Waaah, I want to take him to kindergarten to prove it to the other kids, so they'll know I have a dad..."
"I didn't lie, I'm not a liar!... I have a dad, I have a dad... Waaaaah..."
Seeing his face covered in tears and snot, Ning Wan forced herself to suppress her disgust.
She took the tissue from Xu Xiufeng's hand and wiped his face: "Mom already knows the reason why you argued with the other children at kindergarten."
After a pause, Ning Wan propped up his little face and said with utmost seriousness, "Ning Yanshu, listen to me. I can tell you with absolute certainty that you are not wrong."
"You didn't lie, you're not a liar."
"You have a father, and you are also a child loved by your parents."...
...
Ning Wan's words echoed in Ning Yanshu's mind again and again.
Because he received affirmation from his mother, he finally couldn't hold back any longer and burst out with the grievances he had been suppressing all day.
Ning Yanshu threw herself into Ning Wan's arms and cried uncontrollably.
His shoulders heaved, and he sobbed, "Xiao Shu didn't lie, Xiao Shu has a father..."
"Xiao Shu isn't a liar, Xiao Shu didn't lie..."
...
Ning Wan put her arm around Ning Yanshu's shoulder and pulled him into her arms.
Gently stroke his back with his palm, patiently and gently patting to soothe him.
Ning Wan waited until Ning Yanshu stopped crying and her emotions gradually calmed down before continuing, "Xiaoshu did nothing wrong, nor did she lie. But there are two things that Xiaoshu did wrong."
Ning Yanshu withdrew from Ning Wan's embrace, feeling timid.
He didn't dare to look up at her.
Ning Wan forcefully lifted his cheeks and looked him in the eye, saying, "First, you can't fight. No matter the reason, hitting someone is wrong unless the other person hurts you first. If you are bullied and don't fight back, that's not kindness, that's cowardice."
"So, you retaliated in self-defense after the other party made the first move?"
Ning Yanshu hesitated for a moment, then slowly shook his head.
Ning Wan wasn't in a hurry to reason with them, and continued patiently, "Secondly, you shouldn't have left the kindergarten without permission. If something happens while you're away from the kindergarten, do you know how many people will be held responsible?"
“Uncle Wang in the security office will lose his job because of this, and Teacher Youzi may never be able to teach again in her life. And Mom…” Ning Wan’s eyes gradually reddened: “When you went missing, Mom was really scared…”
