Chapter 24 The Liar is the Dog

The man gave him a cold, sidelong glance.

Without uttering a single unnecessary word: "Get out!"

Although his attire was indeed quite disheveled, the fierce look in his eyes still made Qiangzi tremble involuntarily.

Realizing he couldn't afford to offend someone like that, Qiangzi quickly explained with a smile, "It's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding..."

Then he dragged the heartbroken Sakura away.

Once they had both left the alley and the danger was over, the man's coldness suddenly dissipated.

I became inexplicably depressed and disheartened.

He slumped his head listlessly, intending to leave, but the moment he lifted his foot, he felt the weight coming from his thigh.

He looked down and saw a koala pawing at his legs.

[Koala] Ning Yanshu looked at him with a smile, a kind and ingratiating smile on her face: "Dad..."

The man's eyes showed a moment of confusion, then he shook his head hesitantly: "I'm not your father."

"But you saved me."

Ning Yanshu released the man's leg, skipped over to him, and gestured excitedly: "Mom said that Dad is a hero of light, and when I am in danger, you will appear to save me!"

"I am not your father."

The man turned and walked past him. His steps were light and unsteady, as if he were walking with a weak and listless air.

Compared to the powerful aura that had just descended from the sky, it was completely different.

Ning Yanshu didn't care.

He stubbornly pulled the man's hand and took it, asking, "Dad, where are you going? When are we going home?"

The man had become too lazy to correct the way he addressed her.

He ignored Ning Yanshu, took a few steps, and came to a place about ten meters away from the trash can.

There, on the ground, lay a huge cardboard box.

On the box were small pillows made of old newspapers and a small blanket that was tattered with many holes but neatly folded.

Ning Yanshu was stunned: "Is this Dad's house...?"

Ignoring his surprise, the man took off his shoes and stepped onto the cardboard box.

Ning Yanshu followed closely beside him, looking around. He took off his shoes like the man, hugged his knees, and sat down next to him.

The man sat cross-legged and looked at him as well.

The two of them stared at each other blankly.

until……

...

Until Ning Yanshu's stomach started rumbling...

...

Ning Yanshu rubbed his stomach and sighed.

He was hungry.

This morning, he didn't even have time to eat his kindergarten snacks before he set off to find his dad.

Along the way, Ning Yanshu first got lost, then encountered human traffickers, keeping her in a constant state of tension.

Now that he has finally found his father, he can finally relax.

“Dad…” Ning Yanshu tugged at the man’s clothes: “Xiaoshu is hungry.”

The man pulled the corner of his shirt that had been grabbed from his clothes, then silently covered his pants pocket: "There's nothing good to eat here, and certainly no bread rolls."

Ning Yanshu: "..."

...

The fabric was stretched into a rounded curve where the large hand covered the pocket.

He was certain there was food there!

Ning Yanshu is very smart.

He neither cried nor made a fuss, but stared at the other man with wide, pleading eyes, trying to use a child's usual trick to make the man feel sorry for him.

But the man slowly turned his head and looked away.

Ning Yanshu was unconvinced.

Her little hand gripped his cheek forcefully, and she repeated angrily, "Daddy, Xiaoshu is hungry."

After staring at each other for a few seconds, the man finally gave in.

He rummaged in his pocket, and finally hesitantly took out a whole packaged bread.

After looking at the bread with reluctance for a few moments, the man finally handed it to Ning Yanshu, saying with a hint of grievance, "This is the last one."

He himself was hungry and couldn't bear to eat...

...

"Thank you, Dad!"

Ning Yanshu didn't understand the man's subtext; she tore open the packaging and wolfed down the food.

After finishing the bread, I felt somewhat full.

Ning Yanshu finally had the time and energy to care for her father, who was facing some financial difficulties.

He leaned closer to the man and asked, "Dad, do you want to come home with me?"

The man shook his head and patiently corrected him, "I'm not your father."

"Your mom and I miss you very much."

After Ning Yanshu repeatedly affirmed his identity, the man couldn't help but hesitate for a moment: "Am I really your father?"

Ning Yanshu nodded frantically.

“But I don’t remember.” The man hung his head, his expression dejected. “I’ve forgotten everything from before, and I’ve forgotten who I am…”

"Dad, have you lost your memory?!"

"I have no idea."

"Then Dad should come home with me even more!"

Ning Yanshu grabbed the man's hand and tried to leave, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't move the man an inch.

"Dad?" He turned around, puzzled.

The man was silent for a moment, then said, "But I can't leave here?"

"Why?"

“Someone told me that if I got lost, I should stay where I was and not move. That way, she would come looking for me.”

Ning Yanshu crossed his arms and nodded with feigned maturity: "That's what Teacher Youzi taught me too. When you get lost from your parents, the best thing to do is stay put. But..."

Having no idea what to do, he sat back down on the cardboard box: "But what if that person can't find this place?"

This alley was dark and deep, and it was right next to a trash can.
