Chapter 3: The Plot of the Novel

This is the second time I've regained consciousness since transmigrating into the book.

Ning Wan opened her eyes and saw a white ceiling.

She tilted her head slightly and noticed that there was still an IV bottle hanging on the IV stand next to the bed.

The liquid dripped slowly, one drop at a time, without making a sound. The room was quiet, and the faint smell of disinfectant lingered in the air.

Realizing she was in the hospital, Ning Wan breathed a sigh of relief.

It seems that I was rescued and taken to the hospital by the neighbor in the novel, along with Ning Yanshu.

Ning Wan clearly still found it somewhat unbelievable that she had suddenly transmigrated into a book.

She thought for a moment, then tried calling out in her mind, "System, system, are you there?"

"005?"

"007?"

"Or perhaps, 057?"...

...

But no matter how Ning Wan called out, she received no response.

It seems she didn't bring a system with her when she transmigrated into the book this time.

It feels even worse now...

...

"Oh, you're awake!"

A sudden sound at the ward door interrupted Ning Wan's thoughts.

She turned her head and saw a middle-aged woman who looked to be about 40 years old.

The woman's name was Xu Xiufeng, and she was Ning Wan's neighbor across the hall.

A very warm and kind woman.

In the novel, it was precisely because Xu Xiufeng brought Ning Wan and her son the chive pancakes she had made herself that Ning Yanshu's life was unexpectedly saved.

Xu Xiufeng carried a kettle of boiling water and slowly walked to the bedside.

"How are you feeling? Is anything bothering you? Should we call a doctor?"

Faced with Xu Xiufeng's concern, Ning Wan gently shook her head.

She opened her mouth as if to ask something, but found that she couldn't make a sound at all.

Ning Wan didn't say it, but Xu Xiufeng understood what she meant.

She walked to the other side of the hospital bed and said, "Don't worry, Xiaoshu is here too."

The curtain beside the hospital bed was gently lifted, and Ning Wan saw Ning Yanshu lying on the same bed.

Ning Yanshu was still unconscious at this time.

Her thin, small body was dressed in a large blue and white striped hospital gown, which made her face look even paler.

The spacious hospital bed only made him appear smaller and more helpless.

They look so pitiful.

Beside him, the plastic Ultraman figure was also brought in and placed together. Its bright red color was perhaps the only bright spot in the ward.

Ning Wan's heart softened for no apparent reason.

Because the patient had just undergone gastric lavage, the doctor instructed Xu Xiufeng that the patient should not drink water or eat for the time being after waking up.

Xu Xiufeng had no choice but to take a cotton swab, dip it in water, and carefully moisten Ning Wan's dry lips.

Her movements were gentle and slow, but she couldn't help muttering to herself, "Little Book's Mom, don't blame me for nagging. You're so young, what could you be so upset about?"

"Although life is incredibly bitter, there are people in this world who love us and whom we love, which allows us to taste some sweetness amidst the bitterness."

"Sister Xu knows it's tiring and tough for you to raise Xiaoshu alone, but think about how young he is now. Can you really bear to go with him? They say it's better to live a miserable life than to die. If you're not afraid of death, are you really that afraid of living?"

Xu Xiufeng's expression was serious and solemn: "Don't take my words lightly. Paraquat is no joke; it gives you time to regret but never the chance to. Luckily, you ingested only a small amount this time, and you discovered it in time, which saved your lives. You mustn't do such reckless things again, understand?"

Ning Wan couldn't speak, but nodded to indicate that she understood.

Xu Xiufeng was somewhat surprised to see her actions.

In her memory, Ning Wan was not such an obedient person.

Personality: sensitive, withdrawn, and sharp.

He's always quick to criticize and likes to misinterpret other people's good intentions.

None of the neighbors living in the same building were afraid of Ning Wan.

I originally thought that after I said these words, I would be accused of "meddling" as before.

Unexpectedly, Ning Wan accepted it calmly this time...

...

Xu Xiufeng stayed at the hospital for a while, and left when she saw that Ning Wan was in relatively good spirits.

She has a 14-year-old daughter and a husband who works on a construction site at home who need to be taken care of, so she can't stay at the hospital all day.

However, before leaving, Xu Xiufeng told Ning Wan that she would bring porridge over later, so she didn't need to worry about dinner.

After Xu Xiufeng left, the room fell silent again.

From the next bed, one could hear Ning Yanshu's breathing from time to time.

He seemed particularly uneasy even in his sleep.

It would occasionally let out a few whimpers.

Ning Wan listened carefully and realized that Ning Yanshu was calling out "Mom".

Ning Wan's fair face was furrowed with worry.

The word "Mom" carries too much weight; she's unsure if she can do it well.

Moreover, Ning Wan still couldn't figure out why she had transmigrated into the book, or what the significance of transmigrating was.

But since we're already here, we might as well make the best of it.

Regardless, her first priority is to figure out how to survive.

Ning Wan sighed softly, then closed her eyes.

Carefully review all the plot points you are familiar with.

In the novel's plot, the original owner of the body ingested paraquat but, despite being rescued, still could not survive.

After losing her mother, Ning Yanshu's life after being discharged from the hospital was not easy.

He was soon sent to an orphanage as a child.

However, life at the orphanage was still difficult, and Ning Yanshu was often ostracized by a group of cliques of children.
