Chapter 155

Chapter 155

Upon hearing the shout, Gu Zhongtai quickly grabbed Fan Xiaoxiao and rolled over to dodge the fatal blow.

The Ghost Doctor behind them had already made his move. He moved through the forest with ghostly grace, and then screams of agony rang out from the other side.

"Mount up!"

There was no time for them to stand there in a daze. Gu Zhongtai helped Fan Xiaoxiao mount their horses, and with a sharp crack of his whip, he lashed the horse's rump. The horse neighed and galloped far away.

Bai Chaoyan also realized what was happening. After glancing worriedly in the direction of the Ghost Doctor, she quickly climbed onto her horse. Her martial arts skills weren't particularly strong, and staying here would only cause trouble. Running away was indeed the only way for her not to cause any more trouble for the Ghost Doctor.

"shelf!"

"Boss... could you help me sit up?"

Fan Xiaoxiao struggled to lift her head. She was being carried on the horse's back by Gu Zhongtai like a sandbag, and the rapid movement made her feel like her stomach was about to come out.

Seeing that she looked like she was about to vomit, Gu Zhongtai frowned, pulled her straight, and said coldly, "Don't you dare throw up!"

"Young Master Gu! They're catching up!" Bai Chaoyan, pale-faced, turned around and subconsciously touched the tightly bound rope on her left hand. As Fan Xiaoxiao passed by, she narrowed her eyes, but then her gaze fell on what Bai Chaoyan was looking behind. She saw that many men in black had broken through the Ghost Doctor's poison barrier and were charging straight at them from the other side of the woods.

"Grab that girl! Alive!"

Fan Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes, sensing something was amiss. However, she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was. She glanced at Bai Chaoyan and noticed that the number of men in black behind her had clearly increased, and they weren't far from Bai Chaoyan; they could easily have killed the horse and captured her! She pursed her lips, meeting the gaze of the leader of the men in black. In a flash, she finally realized what was wrong!

Those men in black weren't after Bai Chaoyan at all; their target was the person in Gu Zhongtai's arms!

Having figured this out, Fan Xiaoxiao's face darkened. She couldn't let Bai Chaoyan know that she was being hunted by the imperial court, as this would affect whether Gu Chongtai could get Tianshan to help him cure his poison! And whether they would receive protection after arriving at Tianshan! Rather than jeopardizing things later, she might as well take a gamble here!

With that thought in mind, Fan Xiaoxiao steeled her resolve and shouted loudly at the men in black behind her, "I'm here! Come and get me!"

Then he quickly shouted to Bai Chaoyan, "My lord! Let's split up and run! Their target is me! Don't follow behind us!"

Bai Chaoyan was stunned for several seconds when Fan Xiaoxiao called out those words. She was dressed as a man, and unless she turned around, no one would know she was a woman. But why would Fan Xiaoxiao save her like this?

Bai Chaoyan was filled with doubt and uncertainty. Before she could figure it out, she saw Fan Xiaoxiao mouth something to her with a determined look in her eyes—Don't forget her reward!

This woman! Even at a time like this, she's still thinking about benefits! But the situation was urgent, and she couldn't speak. After Fan Xiaoxiao shouted, she heard someone from the group of men in black behind her yell, "Where's that woman! Chase her!"

Is this what it means to give up chasing her? Bai Chaoyan made up her mind, turned her horse around and galloped off in another direction, leaving most of the men in black who had been chasing them behind.

Gu Zhongtai glanced at the figure behind him and lashed the reins hard.

"Giddy up! You still know to buy things at this crucial moment? Aren't you afraid the people behind us will catch up and tear us to pieces?"

His voice was laced with sarcasm as he spoke. Fan Xiaoxiao paid no heed to his tone, gripping the horse's mane tightly, and said, "That's still better than her finding out that those men in black were after me! If that happened, forget about healing you! Even our trip to Tianshan with us would be ruined!"

"Besides! I don't think even if I die today, you won't! So, run faster!" Fan Xiaoxiao's tone was unusually firm when she said this last sentence. She might die, because she was just a passerby in this world. But the big shot behind her was one of the important characters in this book! She didn't believe she would die here!

Gu Zhongtai's heart tightened; that feeling was back. What was wrong with this girl? How could she be so certain that he wouldn't die?

"Shoot their horses!"

The command from the man in black behind him brought Gu Zhongtai's attention back. He glanced behind him and saw several arrows hurtling towards them.

Fortunately, there were plenty of obstacles in the forest, and all the arrows missed their mark. However, the men in black behind them leaped through the trees, pursuing them closely.

Gu Zhongtai frowned, feeling somewhat irritated. Although he hadn't been arrested yet, if this continued, Boss Ma would eventually tire. At that point, he would inevitably fall into the hands of those behind him.

"This can't go on..."

"What did you say?" Gu Zhongtai's voice was too soft for Fan Xiaoxiao to hear clearly. She turned her head slightly and asked him with some confusion.

However, Gu Zhongtai did not answer, but instead spurred his horse and galloped off in another direction.

The sudden change of direction forced Fan Xiaoxiao to hold on tightly to the horse's neck to keep from falling. The horse ran swiftly through the woods, and the surrounding trees gradually thinned out.

"They've caught up!"

Fan Xiaoxiao glanced back uneasily. The men in black were already very close to them. If they used hidden weapons again, the next one would surely hit their horses.

However, Gu Zhongtai seemed to ignore her words. The exit of the forest was right in front of him. He calculated the distance in his mind, and when it was about time, he patted the back of his horse and leaped up with Fan Xiaoxiao. The out-of-control horse quickly disappeared into the forest.

Fan Xiaoxiao was momentarily stunned by the sudden lift into the air and instinctively clung tightly to Gu Zhongtai's waist. Only when they landed did she realize they had been forced to the edge of a cliff. The men in black behind them had caught up and stopped when they saw they were cornered.

"Run! Aren't you all supposed to be fast runners? Why have you stopped?"

The leader of the men in black gleamed with a fierce light in his eyes as he approached them step by step. Fan Xiaoxiao shrank behind Gu Zhongtai, her foot hitting a pebble as she retreated. She turned around and looked behind her; the cliff behind her was probably more than twenty stories high, with a rushing river flowing at its bottom.

She swallowed hard, her hands trembling slightly. Could it be that Boss Gu was trying to escape in the way she suspected? But clearly, she had no chance to ask him about his intentions now.

As the men in black were already attacking in their direction, Gu Zhongtai sneered, gave Fan Xiaoxiao a deep look, and then threw his hands up and fell towards the cliff.

Fan Xiaoxiao felt her mind go blank for a moment, and instinctively lunged forward.

"Gu Zhongtai!"
