Chapter 217

Chapter 217

The two men were startled by the voice and turned around to find a handsome young man standing behind them.

The man had slightly curly black hair, and what was most unforgettable about him were his green eyes. He stood tall and walked without making a sound.

So much so that when he walked behind the two men, neither of the Imperial Guards noticed him at all.

"Who...who are you?!"

The tall guard was startled and instinctively tightened his grip on his weapon.

Fan Xiaoxiao saw the person who had arrived and her face showed a hint of surprise.

Why are you here?

Gu Chongtai stood with his arms crossed in front of him, followed by Xiao Hei. He was dressed in a striking black outfit. He walked past the two imperial guards and approached Fan Xiaoxiao's stall, staring intently at the vegetables inside the display case.

"Let me see how your business is doing. Give me a few portions of what you just made."

Fan Xiaoxiao reluctantly took out a few skewers of pork belly from the cabinet, grilled an extra purple gourd for the old man, and added some cauliflower and fish.

"I'm doing business here, you have to pay me!"

"Ha, would I be short of that little bit of money to give you?"

Gu Zhongtai glanced at Xiao Hei behind him, who immediately understood and handed a money bag to Fan Xiaoxiao.

The two men's oblivious conversation completely enraged the tall man. He suddenly drew his sword, pointed the tip at Gu Zhongtai, and shouted, "Damn it! Can't you hear me talking to you, you pretty boy?! What are you doing?!"

Gu Zhongtai didn't even glance at the man, but instead walked around the blade and into the tent.

Seeing this, Xiao Hei quickly stepped forward and lifted the curtain. Fan Xiaoxiao frowned; it seemed that Gu Chongtai was deliberately provoking that Imperial Guard.

Being ignored repeatedly is something anyone would find unbearable.

As expected, when the imperial guard passed by Gu Chongtai, he finally couldn't contain his anger, roared, drew his sword, and charged at Gu Chongtai.

Fan Xiaoxiao was startled and almost dropped what she was holding.

Fortunately, Uncle Wang pulled her away in time, and the two of them dodged to the side.

Meanwhile, Gu Zhongtai was no longer the same person who couldn't use his internal energy after being poisoned. He sneered, raised his hand, and easily deflected the Imperial Guard's sword aside.

Immediately afterwards, with his other hand, he used his internal energy to send the tall man flying far away with a muffled thud.

It crashed head-on into a maple tree, causing the snow on top to fall in a flurry. The tall man seemed to have suffered an internal injury, clutching his chest and vomiting a mouthful of bright red blood.

The remaining short man, seeing this, turned pale with fright. Trembling, he pulled a signal arrow from his pocket and shot it into the sky.

These imperial guards were mostly illegitimate sons of officials. Although they were there to protect the princess, they had never seen such a spectacle before.

Upon hearing the whistle of the arrow, the short man's expression softened slightly, but he still trembled as he spoke, and his voice was somewhat unsteady.

"You...you bastard, don't you dare bully us just because there are two of us outnumbered! We...our men are coming right away!"

"Oh? Is that so?"

Gu Zhongtai narrowed his green eyes slightly, his tone sounding both amused and icy.

"Don't just stand there, I'm hungry."

After saying that, he lifted the curtain and went into the tent.

Fan Xiaoxiao was taken aback, realizing that he was talking to her, so she nervously started grilling skewers.

Renle and her group arrived before the skewers were fully grilled. She brought quite a few people with her, almost half of the Imperial Guards.

Fan Xiaoxiao and Uncle Wang were commoners, so when they saw the princess coming, they naturally had to stop what they were doing and kneel down to pay their respects to Ren Le.

The ice and snow on the ground had not completely melted, and Fan Xiaoxiao felt her knees and palms go numb from the cold in no time.

Even so, Renle only glanced at them coldly and showed no intention of telling them to get up.

Where are the people guarding this place?

The shorter one led the taller one to hide in the nearby woods. Upon hearing Princess Renle's voice, they immediately ran out, knelt down in front of her with a thud, and tearfully recounted what Gu Chongtai had done to them.

They also embellished the story, describing how arrogant he was, and of course, they didn't spare Fan Xiaoxiao and the other stall owners who knew Gu Zhongtai.

"Princess, these unruly people set up a stall here, attracting quite a crowd. We were just trying to drive them away, but they took advantage of having the Tianshan Sect as their backer and attacked us!"

Fan Xiaoxiao admired the tall man's ability to distort the truth from the bottom of her heart. They were the ones who bought things but didn't intend to pay, yet he still claimed that he was relying on the Tianshan Sect as his backer?

However, she didn't dare to defend herself rashly. Ren Le was unpredictable, and if she spoke up too soon, Ren Le would definitely think that they had a strong will to survive. This girl was, in a way, a minor boss in the original work.

Fan Xiaoxiao was fairly clear about what this girl would do next. Back in the book, the female lead had repeatedly made her suffer by going against her.

Therefore, it is not difficult for her to deal with this situation.

What's more, she has a powerful backer protecting her.

The tall man over there had already confessed everything Fan Xiaoxiao had done with a mournful face. After listening, Ren Le sneered and stared coldly at Fan Xiaoxiao with his phoenix eyes.

"Oh? You're the stall owner here?"

Uncle Wang opened his mouth as if to speak, but Fan Xiaoxiao immediately pulled him back without making a sound, lowered her head and replied in a deep voice, "That's right."

A soft laugh came from above, and then a pair of exquisite cloud-patterned boots embroidered with floral patterns appeared in Fan Xiaoxiao's sight.

“Raise your head.”

Fan Xiaoxiao subconsciously clenched her hands. Although she knew what kind of person Ren Le was, it was one thing to be afraid when she actually met him.

She swallowed hard, trying to keep her voice steady: "This humble woman dares not look at the princess."

A soft gasp came from Zhou Chao. Ren Le's brow twitched, and a somewhat manic smile appeared on his face.

"Oh? What is it that you dare not look at me? Do you perhaps think that my face is not pleasing to your eye?"

The gasps grew louder, and Fan Xiaoxiao knew that this damn thing had gone mad again. She took a deep breath and was about to speak when the curtain behind her moved, followed by the sound of footsteps behind her.

"Ha, your subordinate is twisting the truth. If she saw you, wouldn't she make you pay for it?"

Fan Xiaoxiao was startled, not expecting Gu Chongtai to actually come out. Even more unexpectedly, he pulled her up and then said to the princess, "She has a place worthy of your kneeling, get up."

Fan Xiaoxiao: Holy crap? Oh my god, oh my god! Although she was also going to confront the princess, was it really necessary to be this aggressive?!

When Ren Le smiled across from her, Fan Xiaoxiao felt her heart tremble.

Boss, you're going to kill me...

"They do have guts."
