Chapter 219

Chapter 219

After Renle left, they actually sent someone to their stall to take away the remaining beer.

"Girl, we've sold out of wine, we need to pack up and go home for today."

"Is that right?"

Uncle Wang watched as the sky outside gradually turned from a clear blue to a gloomy gray, and the daytime vibrancy of the town slowly faded away. It seemed there wouldn't be many customers left.

But Fan Xiaoxiao shook her head: "Wait a little longer."

Uncle Wang scratched his head, glanced at the quiet town entrance, and wondered what Fan Xiaoxiao was waiting for.

Xiao Hei lifted the curtain and came out.

"Miss Xiao, why don't you rest for a while? It's freezing outside, go inside and warm up. I'll stay here and keep watch, I'll call you if anyone comes."

"I can't accept this..."

Uncle Wang was about to shove her, but he caught a glimpse of Fan Xiaoxiao's slightly hunched shoulders out of the corner of his eye, and he stopped himself from speaking.

Xiao Hei noticed his gaze, smiled slightly, and quickly stepped forward to take the things from their hands.

"Oh, don't be so polite with me! Come on in and warm up!"

Having his tools snatched away, Uncle Wang could no longer refuse, so he had no choice but to lift the curtain and lead Fan Xiaoxiao inside.

"Alright... then I'll have to trouble you, young hero."

Fan Xiaoxiao followed behind Uncle Wang, her eyes lowered, making it impossible to see the expression in them.

Inside the tent, Gu Zhongtai was still sitting at the low table next to the brazier.

Of the food on the table, only Ren Le's food was touched; the food in front of him was only touched symbolically at first.

However, he had almost finished that bottle of wine. He held the glass in one hand and looked down at the leaping heat in the brazier.

He only looked up when he heard a noise at the door.

Then he flashed a bright white smile at Uncle Wang and Fan Xiaoxiao: "Uncle Wang, come and do it."

When Uncle Wang heard Gu Zhongtai call him, his body trembled slightly, feeling somewhat unaccustomed to Gu Zhongtai calling him suddenly.

Even though they had fled all the way here, Gu Zhongtai hadn't really interacted with them much because of the poisoning he had been suffering.

He suddenly called out to me today, which startled me.

"Godfather, please have a seat."

Fan Xiaoxiao glanced at Gu Zhongtai, then walked away expressionlessly and sat down in front of the brazier.

Uncle Wang, still somewhat bewildered, sensed something was amiss. He scratched his head and sat down in a corner furthest away from the two of them.

There were two braziers in the tent, one in front and one in back, and Uncle Wang sat in the one in the back.

“I’ll sit here. It’s not warm enough for us to all squeeze together. I’ll have my own brazier, which is fine.”

Fan Xiaoxiao looked at the slightly embarrassed smile on Uncle Wang's face, but in the end she didn't insist. She nodded and then looked up at Gu Zhongtai in front of her.

"You just told Renle about your identity."

This wasn't a question; rather, it was phrased with absolute certainty. She was certain that what she'd heard before leaving the tent wasn't a hallucination; Ren Le had indeed said that Gu Zhongtai was Gu Yue, the Demon Palace Master.

But this doesn't make sense, since Ren Le is searching for a treasure map!

How could she remain indifferent to Gu Zhongtai after knowing his identity?!

"I didn't tell her."

Gu Zhongtai's words surprised Fan Xiaoxiao; she hadn't expected that it wasn't him who told Ren Le.

"But she clearly cried out just now..."

Fan Xiaoxiao's voice stopped abruptly, as if her throat had been suddenly choked.

Gu Zhongtai glanced at her, then suddenly a wicked smile crept across his face.

Are you worried about me?

Fan Xiaoxiao was so embarrassed by these words that she suddenly shrank back, her toes, hidden inside her thick cotton shoes, curling up involuntarily.

She looked away, not daring to meet Gu Chongtai's gaze, and for some reason, she thought of his appearance without disguise.

"What...what are you saying! I...I don't understand!"

"Ha...hahahahaha"

A hearty laugh erupted from Gu Zhongtai's vibrating chest. Fan Xiaoxiao blushed at his laughter and covered her face with her hands.

"Can you please stop laughing?!"

"Ha, I never told Renle my identity. She must have found out from somewhere else. As for why she didn't arrest me even though she knew my identity, there's a reason for that."

What's the reason?

Gu Zhongtai's words piqued Fan Xiaoxiao's curiosity. She leaned forward slightly and looked at him with a curious expression.

"Because the treasure map is already in her hands."

Fan Xiaoxiao was stunned, then suddenly stood up and stared at Gu Zhongtai with wide eyes in disbelief.

"What did you say! The treasure map is in Renle's hands!? But didn't you say you were the one who told her your identity? And wasn't that thing given to you by the Heavenly Venerable?! How did it end up in her hands!?"

Gu Zhongtai propped up one arm and leisurely rested his cheek on it.

His calm and composed demeanor stood in stark contrast to Fan Xiaoxiao's.

"I already told you about her identity; I didn't tell her. As for the treasure map..."

"Heh, it was given to her by me."

Fan Xiaoxiao frowned, still somewhat puzzled by Gu Zhongtai's actions.

"Why?"

“That treasure map is fake. Although I didn’t collect all the treasure maps before, I’ve seen all the ones they have. I knew it was fake at a glance.”

"Besides, you have to think that the Celestial Venerable would never actually give me a treasure map. It's useless anyway, so you might as well use it to make a deal with Ren Le."

As Gu Zhongtai said this, he sat up straight and then leaned back in a very relaxed manner.

"The treasure map given by the Celestial Venerable was fake?"

Fan Xiaoxiao hadn't thought about this, and she frowned as she sat down.

As her emotions gradually calmed down, her mind became clearer and clearer.

Yes, the Celestial Venerable gave away the treasure map too easily; it's quite possible it's fake.

Moreover, if they really wanted to give Gu Zhongtai the treasure map, they certainly wouldn't have chosen such a bad time.

And why give it to Gu Zhongtai so readily? The only reason is that he was the best person to divert Ren Le's attention at the moment.

However, the Celestial Venerable did not expect that Gu Chongtai had memories of his previous life, and it was precisely he who could distinguish between the real and fake treasure maps.

Having figured this out, Fan Xiaoxiao's expression returned to normal, and then she asked two questions.

First, who has the real treasure map? How does he plan to get it?

Second, what exactly was the deal between him and Renle?

"The treasure map is still in Bai Chaoyan and Xiahou's hands. They are currently being protected by the Heavenly Venerable, so I have no way to make a move."

"As for the deal with Renle..."

Gu Zhongtai smiled slightly and leaned forward. The airflow created by his movement caused the flames in the brazier to sway back and forth.

“Of course, let her kill—the Celestial Venerable.”
