Chapter 236

Chapter 236

While Fan Xiaoxiao and the others were discussing what had happened that day, none of them paid any attention.

A dark figure swept past behind their house and sped towards Tianshan Town. He was incredibly fast, heading straight for the princess's tent upon entering the town.

"Your Highness!"

Inside the tent, sandalwood and musk incense burned, and the gold-threaded charcoal brazier in the center made it warm and cozy.

Renle glanced at the person kneeling in the middle, then sat up. She dismissed the maids on either side and leaned lazily against the chaise longue.

"You're back. So, what did that girl say? Was it true or false?"

"According to what she and her family said, they swore it was the truth."

"oh?"

Ren Le gave a mocking smile: "Are you sure they didn't spot you?"

Her doubts made the man in black lower his head even further, since he was already hanging it low.

"I'm certain!"

"Ha, she's telling the truth..."

Renle repeated the message the man in black had just brought, his tone somewhat cryptic.

The man in black sensed that she seemed dissatisfied with the outcome, so after hesitating for a moment, he mustered his courage and suggested to Renle, "Princess, how about... we start with her parents? I heard that she calls that couple her godfather and godmother..."

"Oh? Is that so?"

Ren Le became somewhat interested: "Check."

"yes!"

The man in black was about to leave after receiving the order when Ren Le seemed to remember something and called him back.

"Wait, come back."

"Sang Yu'er...any news?"

The man in black shook his head: "We haven't found that kid yet. The Celestial Venerable slapped him on his vital point, and the cliff of Tianshan is so high, it seems there's no hope for him."

"Who cares about his life or death? What I want is what he has! It's been so long, even if he's dead, you have to find his body for me! If you keep dawdling, don't come back! Bring your heads to me!"

The man in black was slightly startled by Ren Le's words. After bowing again, he retreated out of the tent.

Before he could leave, he felt himself bump into someone. Looking up, he realized it was General Yu.

"Greetings, General!"

General Yu recognized the man in black as the princess's bodyguard, waved his hand, and didn't care why he was there.

"Is His Highness inside?"

The man in black nodded, knowing full well that the princess was quite fond of the general before him. He quickly glanced at the tent, loudly replied "Yes," and then bowed to General Yu in farewell.

"General Yu? What are you standing there for at the door? Come in."

Renle's voice carried a hint of a young girl's joy at hearing her lover come to meet her. General Yu raised his hand, showing no sign of joy, and simply performed a routine bow through the tent.

"Princess, you are joking. This humble general has come to ask the princess to decide whether to use the method suggested by the village chief of Ginkgo Village."

"Come in!"

Renle spoke again, her voice now tinged with anger. But General Yu seemed not to hear her, continuing to bow towards her tent.

"I've discussed this with the town mayor of Tianshan Town. If the village chief's method is feasible, it can indeed solve a large part of the problem, and moreover..."

"Yu Dan!"

Ren Le raised his voice a few decibels, and his tone became icy.

"You're playing me for a fool!"

The curtain was forcefully pulled open from the inside, revealing Ren Le's beautiful face covered with a layer of frost.

General Yu took a step back, immediately lowered his head, and focused his gaze only on his toes.

"This humble general dares not."

"You dare not? I think you'd be more than brave!"

Ren Le took two steps closer, her expression quite unpleasant. However, she retreated as she approached General Yu, making it appear to outsiders that General Yu, a seven-foot-tall man, was yielding to Ren Le. But the open space in front of the tent wasn't large, and General Yu soon found himself with nowhere left to retreat.

He frowned slightly, then immediately knelt down in the snow.

"This humble general is foolish and has offended the princess. I beg the princess to punish me."

Renle was amused by his actions and took a few steps forward to grab his battle robe.

"Yu Dan! You're really something! Who are you trying to fool with this abstinent act? Your Fan Niang? Ha, that kind of village woman is long dead! Don't forget, you went to that village yourself and saw what she looked like! Did that woman calling you 'A-Cheng' today remind you of the past?"

When the past was mentioned, General Yu's lowered eyelashes trembled slightly. But the tremor was like a ripple on a calm lake; after a slight movement, it returned to its usual stillness.

He kept his eyes down, letting Renle tug at his clothes.

"This humble general dares not. The past is the past. This humble general has not forgotten that my wife and children are dead."

He paused for a moment, then his voice became as cold as the wind and snow of the Tianshan Mountains, making people shiver.

"He died—on the princess's orders."

As soon as he finished speaking, General Yu finally looked up at the person in front of him, but in that one glance, there was not a trace of respect for the princess; instead, there was only a deathly aura hidden in his dark eyes.

However, Ren Le paid no attention to his gaze. Instead, because of the look in General Yu's eyes, a somewhat manic smile appeared on his face.

"Hahahaha, you remember. Good that you remember! It's that look in your eyes, Yu Dan, you've finally deigned to look at me!? Hahahaha."

General Yu didn't speak, but simply watched Ren Le laugh quietly until he had finished.

Once the other person stopped laughing, he returned to his usual calm demeanor.

"Your Highness has had enough laughter. Can we now discuss today's important matters?"

His indifference made Ren Le frown, but the pleasure she had just experienced had greatly satisfied her strange desires. General Yu's current lack of tact did not elicit much of her displeasure.

"Speak, of course you should tell me what happened today. But not here."

"Someone come here!"

The princess's personal maid had been waiting at the door of the tent from a distance. When she heard Renle call her, she immediately rushed to them.

"Your Highness."

"Go and find some ice. Have General Yu kneel on the ice and tell me about today's events."

The maidservant paused slightly, glancing speechlessly at General Yu on the ground. Ren Le, not hearing a response, gave a somewhat displeased "hmm."

The maidservant trembled with fear and quickly bowed her head in agreement. After she left, her sister tapped her on the head and scolded her, "What's wrong with you! If you had been any slower, you would have lost your head!"

"Oh, sister! That's General Yu! Kneeling on the ice in this freezing weather will surely frostbite his knees!"

"What do you know! This isn't the first time the general has suffered like this! You'd better watch your own life!"

Renle and General Yu were unaware of what the maid had said.

However, while the two were getting the ice, Ren Le revealed a malicious smile: "General Yu, do you know why the guards came just now?"

After she finished speaking, the general did not respond. Instead, she squatted down in front of him, looking satisfied, and told the general, word by word.

"That young lady's godparents are in my hands. Although her younger sister still has some value, and I won't rush to harm her, those two useless old hags—"

"Tell me, what's the point of keeping it?"
