Chapter 242
"Your Highness!"
When Fan Xiaoxiao saw Ren Le come out, her eyes lit up. She immediately pushed the soldier aside.
"Your Highness! Did the beer just explode? It was the beer that exploded, wasn't it!"
Fan Xiaoxiao had just struggled out of the crowd, her hair a little messy.
The panic on his face showed no trace of his usual calm and tranquility.
Renle pulled his sleeve out of her hand, watching her panicked expression with interest: "Explosion? Hmm... there was such a thing... How can you be so sure it was the beer that exploded?"
Fan Xiaoxiao knelt on the ground, her face covered in sweat and her panic genuine. She raised her head, her eyes slightly red.
"I once accidentally burned a glass bottle! That's the sound! I can't be mistaken! Princess! Princess, tell me! Where are my godfather and godmother!? Are they... are they alright!?"
At this moment, Fan Xiaoxiao had completely lost her usual composure. The guard standing next to the princess pushed away her hand, which was still trying to touch Renle, with some disgust.
"Insolence! You lowly peasant girl! How dare you question a princess of this dynasty?! Guards!"
"Hey, wait a minute."
Renle waved his hand dismissively, seemingly unconcerned about Fan Xiaoxiao's rudeness.
"It's understandable that Lady Xiao was a little anxious because she was thinking of her parents and lost her composure for a moment."
Ren Le had a strange sense of satisfaction on her face; she was thoroughly enjoying Fan Xiaoxiao's expression at this moment.
"Princess……"
The guard opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something. But when his gaze fell on Ren Le's expression, he wisely stopped talking.
Ren Le crouched down and traced the contours of Fan Xiaoxiao's face with her fingers, as if drawing a picture. Her nails, painted with nail polish, were very sharp. Wherever she touched, a white mark was immediately visible.
Fan Xiaoxiao winced slightly, her brows furrowing slightly. But at that moment, she couldn't care less about her face; she simply tried to lift her chin to keep herself away from Ren Le's nails.
"Your Highness, are my father and mother well?"
Her voice sounded choked and trembling, and her lower lip was shaking uncontrollably.
Renle narrowed his eyes and curled his lips: "Your father and mother... I remember these past few days, they seem to have been drinking with that wine day and night."
"Varied……"
Fan Xiaoxiao's expression went blank for a moment, and she stood there stunned after hearing Ren Le's words.
Two or three seconds later, her body began to tremble violently. Large tears streamed down her face.
"No, impossible... impossible... impossible!!!"
With her last words, Fan Xiaoxiao shouted them out with almost all her might. The guard beside her frowned, about to step forward again, but Ren Le gave him a cold glance.
The guard shuddered and retreated to his original position.
Fan Xiaoxiao caught a glimpse of their reactions out of the corner of her eye, and her face immediately revealed an expression of pain and disbelief.
She stumbled and knelt down again in front of Ren Le, kowtowing several times before bursting into tears.
"Your Highness! Your Highness! You've deceived me, haven't you! I beg you! Please have mercy! Give me back my father and mother! They're old! They can't bear to suffer! I beg you!"
Fan Xiaoxiao's kowtows were genuine, one after another, and when she looked up again, her forehead was already red.
Blood dripped from her face onto the ground, but Fan Xiaoxiao didn't care at all.
Xiahou, standing in the crowd, glanced at Fan Xiaoxiao and felt a surge of admiration for this young lady.
But now was not the time to hesitate. He flashed and disappeared from the spot.
Renle on the other end was completely unaware of this.
She was watching with delight the pained expression on Fan Xiaoxiao's face, a joy and pleasure that welled up from the bottom of her heart, an enjoyment that came from within.
She propped her face up with her hand and caught the blood on Fan Xiaoxiao's face with one hand.
"Give it back to you? How? They—"
"But he's dead."
Ren Le tilted her head, her face clearly possessing a captivating and radiant beauty, yet Fan Xiaoxiao could still discern a darkness akin to an abyss within it.
Depression that feels like it's dragging you into an abyss.
Fan Xiaoxiao clenched her teeth tightly. Although her cotton-padded coat was very thick, it still couldn't keep out the biting cold.
Her teeth started chattering uncontrollably: "Your Highness... I... I'll obey. Please, please give my father and mother back to me..."
"How...how do I repay it?"
Renle tapped his cheek with his fingers, as if he was really thinking about how to repay her.
Fan Xiaoxiao was already somewhat dazed at this point, and what she was muttering was a plea for her to return her parents to her.
Then, from not far away came the muffled sound of armor feathers clashing together.
Renle didn't need to look up to know who the person was.
She closed her eyes, her body swaying gently back and forth with the steps of the person behind her.
"Princess, everything else has been taken care of."
Renle opened his eyes, and the smile on his face disappeared.
She stood up and patted her dress.
"General Yu, you've come at the right time. This lady is looking for me to tell you about her parents. Tell me, did you see her parents in the fire just now?"
When Renle said this, he glanced at the guard beside him.
The latter immediately understood her meaning, bowed, and silently withdrew.
"Inside the fire?"
General Yu's gaze fell on Fan Xiaoxiao's face, whose eyes had already glazed over, and he stared at her silently for a long while. Finally, he parted his thin lips slightly and uttered two words sparingly.
"No."
His words seemed to give Fan Xiaoxiao a shot of adrenaline. The light that had just disappeared from her eyes instantly returned.
"No, no, it means my parents are still alive, right! Your Highness! General! I beg you! Please let me see my parents! Just one glimpse! I beg you! I kowtow to you!"
After she finished speaking, she was about to bend down and kowtow again. General Yu stopped her first, his gaze lingering on the bloodstains on her face for several seconds.
“Go back. Military camps are not places for ordinary people.”
This was the first time General Yu had spoken to Fan Xiaoxiao, and his tone was one of unquestionable intimidation.
Ren Le narrowed his eyes slightly, then smiled.
“This is not Yongzhou, why are you so reserved? Lady Xiao is someone I have specially authorized to enter here. You just said that you didn’t find anything in the fire, and I think you may not have searched carefully enough. I have already sent guards to search again. Lady Xiao, you can wait here.”
Ren Le's words were somewhat meaningful, and Fan Xiaoxiao noticed that General Yu unconsciously clenched his fist after she said them.
She calmed herself down and bowed deeply to Renle.
"Thank you, Your Highness."
