Chapter 30 It was all caused by going into the water.
On the way to buy materials, Aunt Wang asked Fan Xiaoxiao with some confusion, "Girl, why did you go to that lady's house a few days later after you refused her?"
"Yeah, sis, we've already refused, so wouldn't it be inappropriate to go to their house now?"
Fan Xiaoxiao, who was leading the way with Xiaobao, shrugged and said indifferently, "Anyway, our business probably won't last long. Although we can't work for them, we can go to their house in a few days and maybe I can help them with their restaurant's problems."
After saying this, Fan Xiaoxiao's eyes flickered. When the lady introduced herself, she had also mentioned her son's name—a name she recognized as belonging to someone important. Perhaps this could help them leave Guqu Town sooner!
The two members of the Fan family, of course, had no idea what Fan Xiaoxiao was thinking. When they heard that their business wouldn't last long, their expressions changed, and they hurriedly asked, "Girl, what do you mean by that?"
"Do you remember what that butcher did when we went to his stall yesterday?"
Recalling the butcher's actions yesterday, Aunt Wang's face showed some indignation. She said angrily, "How could I not remember? That butcher made us buy an extra piece of meat by pretending he slaughtered less pig before he would sell us the offal!"
Fan was also present when this happened. After hearing what Aunt Wang said, she frowned and added, "Yes, and when I was washing the offal yesterday, I saw that a pig kidney and a liver were missing."
Fan Xiaoxiao chuckled: "Heh, that butcher Zhang slaughtered two pigs yesterday, but only told us he slaughtered one. He made us buy three pieces of meat before giving us the offal. I bet he'll have some new tricks up his sleeve today."
Aunt Wang and Madam Fan exchanged a glance, both looking puzzled. Aunt Wang asked, "Girl, how did you know that butcher Zhang killed two pigs? Didn't he say one?"
"Ha, how can a pig have three ears?"
"!"
As they were talking, the group had already arrived at Butcher Zhang's stall.
Zhang the butcher had been eagerly awaiting Fan Xiaoxiao and her companions' arrival since early morning. He had been asking around for a long time and learned that the outsiders were doing quite well selling his offal. His wife, upon hearing that he was selling offal as a side business, nearly tore his ears off yesterday. So, his wife was determined to come and meet those outsiders today.
"Hey! They're here!"
From afar, Butcher Zhang spotted Fan Xiaoxiao and her group and quickly nudged Zhang Shi, who was munching on melon seeds. Zhang Shi was a burly woman with a black mole on her lip, upturned eyes, and high eyebrows; she looked like a formidable figure. Seeing the direction Butcher Zhang was pointing, Zhang Shi put down her melon seeds and snorted coldly, "Hmph! You've finally arrived."
"Butcher Zhang, have you prepared my goods for today?"
Fan Xiaoxiao had already spotted the woman with the troublemaking look on her face, but she didn't take it seriously and asked Zhang the butcher with a smile. Zhang the butcher glanced at his wife, who crossed her arms and chuckled sarcastically, "Oh! Isn't this the Fan lady whose business has been booming these past few days? The other day she came to trick my old Zhang into giving her free offal. Is her business doing alright?"
Aunt Wang was displeased upon hearing this. She rolled up her sleeves, put her hands on her hips, and yelled, "Hey! I don't like hearing that! Do you think your meat is free?!"
Seeing that the other party still dared to be so defiant, Zhang sneered and said, "That's because my husband is kind-hearted! Seeing that you were short of money when you first arrived, he thought you were poor, so he gave it to you! Who would have thought that you would use it for business? You're really bullying us small businesses! You only know how to take advantage of us small stalls!"
Granny Wang was so angry that her chest heaved. This plump woman was simply going too far, constantly accusing them of taking advantage of her, yet not mentioning that their offal was bought along with the pork. She insisted that they were the ones bullying her. Granny Wang was so angry she could barely speak, pointing at the plump woman and glaring at her, she shouted, "You! You!"
"What do you mean, 'you'? Let me tell you! Either pay me back for the previous sewage treatment, or get the hell out of here!"
Zhang looked smugly at Wang Da Niang, who was quite angry. In this ancient town, they were the only pork sellers. If they wanted to continue doing business, they would definitely have to buy their offal. And they could get back all the money they had lost! Thinking of this, a greedy look appeared on Zhang's face.
"Oh, I wonder how the waste is sold?"
