Chapter 36 Bamboo Forest
The rain poured down all night, and the downpour showed no signs of abating the next day.
Xiahou, holding an oil-paper umbrella, frowned as he watched the people coming and going in the rain. He had woken up early this morning to a commotion outside, but had no idea what was going on. When he went out to check, he found that Gu Zhongtai and the chieftain were nowhere to be found.
Just then, a guard of about seventeen or eighteen years old ran past him, stopped him, and asked in a cold voice, "What happened? Where are Young Hero Gu and the Chief?"
The guard, soaked to the bone, wore a clear look of anxiety. He wiped his face before recognizing the handsome Xia Hou who had grabbed him. The rain was so heavy that the guard had to listen twice before he understood what Xia Hou was asking.
"Reporting to you, sir, we don't know either. Several sections of the dikes on the back mountain seem to be about to burst due to the torrential rain. We're looking for the chieftain right now!"
Hearing the guard's almost shouting words, Xiahou was startled and loosened his grip. Seeing Xiahou frozen in place, the guard hurriedly saluted and left in a hurry. Xiahou seemed to remember something, and disregarding the muddy rain, he leaped towards the back mountain.
Meanwhile, Gu Zhongtai and the chieftain they were searching for were now facing off in another part of the back mountain. The surrounding bamboo forest had been shaken to pieces, clearly indicating that a fierce battle had taken place there.
Gu Zhongtai, his face pale, clutched his chest and coughed up a mouthful of blood. The chieftain opposite him seemed to be in no better shape, leaning against a large tree and panting heavily.
"Ha! Young Master Gu! If you had minded your own business today, I might have spared your life!"
Gu Chongtai narrowed his eyes, wiped the blood from his lips, and said with disdain and contempt, "I don't need someone else's dog to spare my life! My life has always been in my own hands. As for you, should I call you Chief Chief or Lord Sun?"
Or, as I've investigated, shall I call you... the Left Protector of the Demonic Cult?
Gu Zhongtai spoke very softly the last part of his words, "Left Protector of the Demonic Sect," but his tone was icy cold and even carried a hint of murderous intent.
The chieftain opposite him wasn't angry when Gu Zhongtai called out his name one by one. Instead, a strange light flashed in his eyes, and he chuckled, "Heh heh, so what if you know? Who I am doesn't matter anymore, because you're about to die!"
After saying that, Sun Jingde stomped his foot, and his palm, carrying a domineering internal force, rushed towards Gu Zhongtai, clearly intending to finish the battle quickly and annihilate Gu Zhongtai in one fell swoop.
But Gu Chongtai was no ordinary person. After cleverly deflecting the attack, a cold glint flashed in his hand, and Sun Jingde felt a sharp pain in his arm as Gu Chongtai sliced off a piece of flesh in an instant.
Rainwater mixed with blood seeped into the soil. Sun Jingde clutched his wound, his face terrifyingly grim. Gu Chongtai grinned, tilting his head slightly as he looked at him, and said in a chilling tone, "Lord Sun, you look better like this."
"Ha! You little bastard!"
This time, the two attacked together. Sun Jingde became more and more alarmed as the battle progressed. He wondered who this Gu Chongtai was. Despite his injuries, Gu Chongtai showed no sign of weakness and instead revealed a bloodthirsty smile.
And what about Gu Zhongtai's weapon? He already had quite a few wounds on his body, but he still couldn't see what weapon that little bastard was holding. Could he really tear his flesh off with his bare hands? Thinking of this, Sun Jingde's expression turned cold again—no, he absolutely couldn't let this brat escape today! He had to make him die in this bamboo forest!
Sun Jingde spun around, retreating abruptly, while simultaneously pulling a bone whistle from his robes and blowing it. The piercing whistle echoed through the forest. Gu Chongtai's eyes narrowed, his maniacal smile undiminished. For some reason, Sun Jingde suddenly felt uneasy. Suddenly, a deafening roar erupted from the other side of the mountain, followed by the thunderous sound of rushing water.
Then several dark figures landed, the leader's voice filled with anxiety: "My lord! The dam has breached!"
Sun Jingde's heart skipped a beat, and he turned to Gu Zhongtai with a grim expression, saying, "It's you!!"
"Hahahaha, Lord Sun, what do you think of this wonderful gift?"
Sun Jingde gritted his teeth, his eyes bloodshot with rage, and shouted at the shadowy figure beside him, "Bring the knife! Kill this brat!"
An eight-foot-long broadsword was handed to Sun Jingde. Gu Chongtai slightly composed himself, raised an eyebrow, and said, "Oh? Marquis Xinting, ha, even the demonic sword can make a mistake and choose a pig-like master like you?"
Sun Jingde was so angry he was panting heavily. He had never been able to control this demonic sword, and now that Gu Chongtai had so brazenly said so, how could he not be furious? He roared, "You little bastard! Prepare to die!!!"
Gu Zhongtai chuckled coldly, about to make a move, when his body suddenly went numb. He thought to himself, "Oh no, the old poison in my body has flared up now."
Just as the knife was about to fall on him, Gu Chongtai twisted his body and charged forward without dodging, a cold glint flashing in his hand. Sun Jingde was startled and slowed his movements, but by then he couldn't stop his momentum.
With a soft "thud," the demonic blade sliced through Gu Chongtai's shoulder, revealing the stark white bone beneath, and blood immediately blurred half of his body. Sun Jingde, on the other side, fared no better; his arm, clad in the demonic blade and stained with blood, slashed through the rain and fell behind the two, splashing mud and water everywhere.
"Aa ...
Sun Jingde's screams echoed through the bamboo forest. He clutched his severed arm, which was bleeding profusely, his eyes bloodshot with pain. He gasped for breath, his anger and pain having driven him mad.
"Kill him!! Kill him!!!"
"yes!"
The man in black stepped forward in response. Gu Zhongtai had a nonchalant smile on his face, as if he didn't have those horrifying wounds on his body.
"superior!"
"Oh"
The man in black responded and moved, but Gu Chongtai only glanced at the man in black who had given the order, flicked his hand with a cold glint, and a whooshing sound rang out. Then the man's head rolled to the ground.
"Boss!"
"He...he used a single silk thread!"
Gu Chongtai smiled coldly, flicked his weapon, and aimed it straight at Sun Jingde's head.
"Quick! Protect the adults!"
Just as he was about to get Sun Jingde's dog head, suddenly! Gu Zhongtai's internal energy stagnated, and a piercing pain drilled into his limbs and bones.
The sudden pain caused his internal energy to dissipate, and he collapsed to his knees. Sun Jingde, who had narrowly escaped death, was both shocked and enraged. He roared at the black-clad men who were frozen in shock, "What are you all standing there for! Kill him!"
Only then did the men in black realize what was happening, and they suddenly raised their knives and continued to slash at Gu Zhongtai.
Just as the rain of swords was about to fall, at the critical moment, two figures, one white and one black, blocked Gu Zhongtai's path.
"master!"
"Master! You're injured!"
Gu Zhongtai's face was somewhat gloomy. The injury on his shoulder was a minor matter, but the old poison in his body was unusually fierce this time, and he felt as if his whole body was being torn apart.
"Walk!"
"yes!"
After saying that, Bai Hua threw a bag at the group of shadows. With a bang, the smoke exploded in the rain. Although the area was reduced by the rain, the shadows that were covered by the powder still fell down, their faces ulcerated.
Upon seeing this, Sun Jingde's face turned ashen. He struggled to his feet, shouting, "Chase! Chase him! We must kill that brat! Otherwise, I will not be able to quell the hatred in my heart."
The torrential rain relentlessly washed over the bamboo forest. Behind Gu Chongtai and the other two were the men in black, who seemed to haunt them like ghosts. Gu Chongtai's senses were already somewhat blurred. He gently patted Xiao Hei and whispered in his ear, "Bai Hua, take me to Bai Xiaosheng and go call the Ghost Doctor."
"yes!"
Xiao Hei responded and swiftly transferred Gu Zhongtai onto Bai Hua's back. Then, with a twist of his foot, he leaped into the midst of the men in black, splattering blood as he sped off in another direction.
Bai Hua, carrying Gu Zhongtai, didn't stop at all. She leaped off the cliff by the river with Gu Zhongtai and disappeared into the rain.
Having lost their target, the man in black had no choice but to return, disappearing into the bamboo forest with Sun Jingde.
Not long after they left, Xiahou, dressed in white, looked at the devastated bamboo forest and the bloodstains on the ground with a cold gaze.
