Chapter 52 Someone Died

The young man's impulsive words left Gu An'an speechless.

The original owner was a pitiful person. Before marriage, she was oppressed by her parents, and after marriage, she was bound by social norms. She was pitiful, but also hateful.

It's like the ecosystem in a fishpond.

Gu's parents, Grandma Jiang, and others are the big fish.

Jiang Mingyi and his children were pitiful little shrimps.

The original owner, as a small fish being eaten by a big fish, was both a victim and a perpetrator.

Well, it's not impossible for someone like that to be liked.

After all, there are all kinds of people.

However, Lin the blacksmith loved the deceased original owner of the body, so what did it have to do with her?

Gu An'an sighed, "Perhaps he's just using me as an excuse."

Even Gu An'an herself didn't believe what she said. "The road is slippery, you should come with me, we can look out for each other."

Jiang Mingyi wouldn't believe anything she said, so she decided to be honest and straightforward, which was better than anything else.

These words startled the young man, and it took him a while to realize what he had just said.

After the impulsive act came unease, but seeing Gu An'an's serene and composed demeanor, he was momentarily at a loss for words to apologize.

"I...I just..."

"I will not remarry." Although this era does not discriminate against widows remarrying, what benefits would there be in remarrying?

She's capable of supporting these children; she doesn't need a man to back her up.

"So don't worry that I'll abandon you and your brother. Yi'er, I've said I'll raise you well, and I'm not just making empty promises. Let bygones be bygones. From now on, let's live a good life as a family of five, okay?"

Jiang Mingyi stared blankly at the person standing in front of him. Her expression was exceptionally sincere, and her eyes were more genuine and bright than ever before, making him feel ashamed of himself.

After a long while, Jiang Mingyi finally heard himself make a sound, "Hmm."

Gu An'an breathed a sigh of relief; this was truly an awkward child.

She patted the boy's head and laughed, "Come on, let's go to Lin the blacksmith's place. He'll make the pot for us soon so we can have some barbecue later."

This time, Jiang Mingyi didn't stop her and followed behind Gu An'an as always.

However, the door to Lin the blacksmith's house was locked, and the two men found nothing.

Gu An'an was a little surprised, "Not at home?"

After a heavy snowfall, everyone in the village wanted to stay at home. Lin the blacksmith didn't usually go out much, so why did he go out at this time?

However, this was none of her business. Gu An'an turned to leave and just then saw Zhao's wife, the neighbor of the blacksmith Lin, come out.

"Xiao Gu, you're here to see Lin San too? This Lin San is really elusive. He was making a ruckus at home late last night, and he's disappeared this morning."

Gu An'an was taken aback by these words, "Making a racket in the middle of the night?"

"You bet it was like a fight. If I hadn't gotten up and seen that his door was locked from the outside, I would have really thought there was a burglary. Xiao Gu, did anything happen to your house last night?"

Sister-in-law Zhao looked concerned and asked, "I heard that Jiang Yonghai was sleepwalking or something yesterday, and went outside and froze all night. He almost froze to death. Is that true?"

Gu An'an left early in the morning, but judging from Jiang Lao Da's expression, Jiang Lao Er should not be dead.

As for the explanations given to the public, they are nothing more than sleepwalking or drinking too much.

She didn't take it to heart.

"I don't know. Sister-in-law, does Lin the blacksmith usually go out so early in the morning?"

Sister-in-law Zhao was surprised that this family had turned out like this, and instead of caring about them, she was concerned about Lin San, an outsider.

"No, not at all." As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Gu An'an pull out a shovel from somewhere and smash it directly against the lock of Lin San's door.

"Xiao Gu, what are you doing?"

The entrenching tool worked very well; it smashed the lock on the door.

Gu An'an pushed open the door and went inside.

There was still snow in the courtyard, with some footprints on it.

The footprints were of different sizes, so they were clearly not from the same person.

Aunt Zhao didn't notice any of this. She followed and shouted, "Little Gu, how could you barge into someone's house like that? This could... oh, someone could die!"

When Sister Zhao saw the person lying at the kitchen door, she screamed, and the next second her eyes rolled back and she collapsed to the ground.

Gu An'an rushed over and said, "The person is still alive."

However, this aura was already very weak.

Jiang Mingyi quickly helped carry Lin the blacksmith, who had collapsed at the kitchen door, into the house.

Just as Sister Zhao said, Lin the blacksmith's house had been ransacked and was in a complete mess.

"Someone wants to kill him?"

Jiang Mingyi didn't understand why a blacksmith would attract attention.

He was stabbed in the chest; it must have been with a short blade.

Perhaps because of the cold weather, the wounds there had already scabbed over.

But because of the cold weather, the person had almost lost all color in their face, and it was unlikely that they would wake up.

"I don't know." Gu An'an just felt something was off. How could a blacksmith who lived alone, who kept his house and yard spotless, be rummaging through drawers and cabinets in the middle of the night?

Her guess came true, but Gu An'an still couldn't figure out who Lin the blacksmith had made an enemy of.

"So what do we do now?"

Gu An'an picked up the quilt that had been thrown on the ground and covered Lin the blacksmith with it, saying, "Let's see if he can pull through on his own."

She didn't have any solutions either; the wound was somewhat dangerous. Gu An'an wasn't a medical expert, so she didn't have any good ideas.

Besides, she didn't know if the perpetrator would come back.

Gu An'an was just thinking of calling Jiang Mingyi to leave when the villagers had already rushed over after hearing the commotion.
