This reminder startled Liu Jiuniang, and upon closer reflection, it seemed to be true.
The two arrived at Gu's Food Shop on the same day, one after the other. One had a stepmother who was wicked, while the other had lost his parents and family in the war at the border.
They are all pitiful children.
Why can't I stand the other person?
In the late afternoon, Liu Jiuniang finished cleaning the shop, locked the door, and went to Lushui Lane.
While visiting Jiang Mingyi, he talked about this with Gu An'an.
"So what do you think of these two?"
This really stumped Liu Jiuniang. "Both of them are hardworking. Xiao You is quick and efficient, and she plans to go hunting in the mountains to earn more money during her rest period. Xiao Wu is very observant and will do any work she sees. She's also quite talkative."
"I guess there's some kind of conflict between the girls."
Liu Jiuniang was also a little worried. "These two kids are really something. They said they would live separately, but they still live together. I hope they don't start fighting."
I live in the same courtyard as her, right across from her.
But Liu Jiuniang couldn't keep an eye on what the two girls across the street were doing all the time; it would be too embarrassing if word got out.
"It's not that bad. By the way, have you been looking at houses lately? If you find a suitable one, you can buy it. If you don't have enough money, you can borrow from me."
Liu Jiuniang laughed, "I'm looking, but I haven't found anyone yet." She didn't want to go back to Jiangjia Village. She planned to follow Gu An'an's example and register her own household at the yamen. Whether she would remarry or live alone in the future, she would decide later.
It's better than going back to the countryside and being pitied by gossip.
"But there's something I need to tell you."
Pulling Gu An'an aside, Liu Jiuniang began to mutter, "Your brother-in-law's family has caused trouble again."
Jiang's wife's antics back then angered Old Mrs. Jiang to the point that she wanted her eldest son to divorce her.
Unexpectedly, Jiang the eldest defied his mother's wishes and left Jiangjia Village with his wife and Jiang Qiaoqiao, moving to the county town.
This is good news for Boss Jiang, who is eager to split up the family business.
However, Sister-in-law Jiang was not so happy. Her husband, who had once been loving and even didn't mind that she only had a daughter and couldn't carry on the Jiang family line, had another wife and concubine, who had also given birth to a son.
Although Gu An'an hadn't paid much attention to what was happening there, she knew that Jiang's eldest sister-in-law was not doing well, since Jiang's mother had brought Jiang's second son's family to cause trouble last time, and Jiang's eldest sister-in-law had even kicked her while she was down.
However, Liu Jiuniang brought this up again today, so it seems that the situation is quite serious.
"I heard that Jiang Yongshan's son is not his biological son."
Gu An'an was stunned when she heard this. "If he's not her biological son, then he could be Jia Sheng's?"
"You little Gu, why are you joking with me at a time like this?"
Liu Jiuniang glared at her, "That child belongs to someone else."
Gu An'an was genuinely shocked. "Is he going to be a father unexpectedly?"
"What do you mean by 'unexpectedly becoming a father'? But what you said isn't wrong. I live just one street away from his house. I heard from the other people in the neighborhood that the woman actually has another man. That man is a good-for-nothing, and I don't know why he came up with this dirty trick, making his wife go out to earn money. This woman said she was a widow and somehow got involved with Jiang Yongshan. Later, she had a child and was kept by Jiang Yongshan outside. I heard that she was already pregnant when she got involved with Jiang Yongshan, and no one knows whose father it is."
Gu An'an was stunned. "You can do that?"
"That's right, you know. This woman has a really tough life. She married a man who's not good for her, and she still has to earn this money."
There was so much information in this that Gu An'an didn't know what to say.
“If this really isn’t your brother-in-law’s child, I reckon Qiaoqiao’s mother would make a huge fuss.”
Liu Jiuniang had heard that Jiang Dasao was ordered to do dirty and hard work by that woman because she made a mistake and couldn't give birth to a son.
Now look what's happened! The woman has given birth to a son, but no one knows who the father is.
But then there will be trouble.
Gu An'an was both amused and exasperated. Let them make a scene; it had nothing to do with her anyway.
But this was just wishful thinking on her part. Not long after Liu Jiuniang left, someone knocked on her gate. "Excuse me, does Doctor Tian live here?"
Gu An'an felt that the voice sounded somewhat familiar, but before she could even speak, Chen Bei had already opened the door.
Who else could it be but Boss Jiang standing cautiously outside the door?
When Boss Jiang saw that it was Gu An'an who opened the door, he was stunned. "Why is it you?"
Gu An'an wanted to ask, "Can't you see the words written on it?"
The sign on her door reads "Gu," but how can it be mistaken for the character "Tian"?
The Jiang family has a history of falsely accusing others first.
Rolling her eyes, Gu An'an pointed to the next room, "Tian Bu'er lives next door."
Jiang Laoda looked sullen and kept knocking on the door next door.
"Who is it? Who is it?" came the impatient voice from the courtyard.
Jiang replied cautiously, "Dr. Tian, I'm feeling a bit unwell and would like you to help me with my diagnosis and treatment."
Gu An'an wasn't in a hurry to go back; she stood there watching the commotion.
And someone else was there to watch the fun with her. Jiang Mingxu poked his head out and asked, "Mom, what's he doing here?"
Where there's excitement to be had, Jiang Mingxu was naturally a must.
Gu An'an rubbed the little boy's head. "I don't know."
As the mother and son were talking, the gate to the neighboring courtyard opened, and Jiang Laoda went inside.
Jiang Mingxu looked up and smiled, "I'll go find out more information."
As if swimming in water, they slipped away and arrived at Tian Bu'er's house.
No one knows this route better than Jiang Mingxu.
With such a helpful informant, Gu An'an went home with peace of mind.
However, before Jiang Mingxu could get the news back, Chen Bei jumped down from the wall, looking sullen, as if something unpleasant had happened.
"What's wrong?"
"That man suspects his son isn't his son."
Jiang Laoda was a shrewd man, so naturally he was unwilling to accept such an unclear situation. If the child was his, that would be fine, but if not, why should he raise someone else's son?
Anping County is not a very large area, and among the doctors in the county town, Tian Bu'er is a well-known and highly skilled physician.
Gu An'an had expected that he would come to ask Tian Bu'er for help.
"What did Doctor Tian say?"
Chen Bei shook his head, "Dr. Tian's voice was soft, I didn't hear him clearly."
As a young master from a wealthy family, he was already somewhat embarrassed to talk behind people's backs, let alone expose their shortcomings.
As the two were talking, Jiang Mingxu came running back excitedly, "Mom, I found out! Uncle is so pitiful."
The little boy sighed, then changed his tone, "But he deserved it."
There wasn't a single good person in the Jiang family. He was too busy watching the show to really pity them.
My mother once said, "If you repay evil with kindness, how will you repay kindness?"
Therefore, one should be clear about gratitude and resentment, and remember grudges when necessary.
He had a knack for mimicking speech, imitating Tian Bu'er perfectly. "Don't you know whether he's your son or not?"
