Chapter 33 The kang (heated brick bed) is warm

The sound of slaps made Jiang Mingzhu's eyes burn even brighter.

If she could, she would like to do it herself.

That old woman actually slandered someone's innocence; she truly deserves to die.

Grandma Jiang, lying on the ground, didn't expect that even pretending to faint wouldn't work.

This little slut actually started hitting me without warning.

She felt a sharp pain on her face after being hit twice, and thought that she should open her eyes as soon as possible to make sure the evil spirit was driven away.

Who would have thought that as soon as she opened her eyes, before she could even speak, she heard the little harlot say, "Oh no, this evil spirit is so powerful, I have to fight it again."

Hitting someone may hurt your hand, but it's nothing compared to the pain in Grandma Jiang's face.

Moreover, this isn't just a matter of a sore face.

They've completely disgraced their ancestors for eight generations.

The villagers who had been watching the spectacle turned their heads away as they saw the face swollen up like a big steamed bun.

Madam Cai, however, found it intriguing and asked, "Little Gu, how many times do I need to hit him?"

Gu An'an spoke nonsense with a straight face: "The evil spirit my mother attracted was vicious, but I hit it about twenty times, which is enough. I'm just afraid that this evil spirit is cunning and will hide and do evil again."

Aunt Li glanced at it coldly, "Then give it a few more hits and drive it away completely."

Couldn't she tell that Old Mrs. Jiang was faking fainting?

However, since she dared to so blatantly slander someone's innocence, she should be taught a lesson and made to lose face, otherwise she will never learn her lesson.

When the second son of the Jiang family rushed over after hearing the news, he saw his mother lying there with her face swollen high and red like a monkey's bottom.

His whole body was still wet and covered in mud.

What's going on?

The Tian brothers, having been slandered by Granny Jiang, now loathe her intensely and have no good feelings towards Jiang the second brother either. "She's possessed by an evil spirit; we have to wait here for the evil spirit to dissipate."

This is his own mother. How could Jiang Lao Er bear to let his mother lie here?

He quickly carried the person on his back and went home. Just as he entered the house, he saw Sister-in-law Jiang returning from outside.

What happened?

Jiang Lao Er didn't know either. "They say Mother is possessed by an evil spirit. Sister-in-law, you should quickly boil some hot water and change Mother's clothes so she doesn't catch a cold."

Upon seeing this, Sister-in-law Jiang hurriedly went to boil water, quite surprised by her mother-in-law's plight.

The facts have proven that Jiang Lao Er was a jinx, and unfortunately, some of his predictions came true.

Jiang Mingyi's cold water had caused Grandma Jiang to develop a fever that very night, and she remained in bed for several days.

Jiang Lao Er inquired and found out what had happened. He immediately wanted to confront Gu An'an, but instead of finding her, he was stopped by Aunt Li. "Your mother has been afflicted by an evil spirit. Yesterday she said An'an was having an affair. If this evil spirit isn't completely driven away, she might accuse your wife of having someone else. You'd better go and ask the sorceress for some talisman water for her to drink."

Feudal superstition still has a strong market in the 21st century, let alone now.

Jiang Lao Er hurriedly went to invite the sorceress, and after she drank a bowl of talisman water, Jiang Lao Tai coughed incessantly.

"Mother, you're awake?"

Looking at her usually considerate son, Old Mrs. Jiang couldn't help but cry, "My son, I can't live anymore."

A touching scene of mother and son unfolds here, while Gu An'an tends the fire.

The kang (heated brick bed) in her house is finished.

Burn it!

In the kitchen, Aunt Li watched Gu An'an keep adding firewood and couldn't help but ask, "Will this really heat up?"

"Really, Auntie, you should give it a try."

She's been messing around with this kang (heated brick bed) for a long time.

To make the grout more compact, she even went to the county grain store to buy millet and glutinous rice, and cooked porridge to mix with the grout.

A few days ago, after the kang (heated brick bed) was built, Gu An'an even jumped on it for a while to ensure it was very sturdy and durable before the project was completed and inspected. It was truly the most rigorous project ever.

Aunt Li looked on with curiosity and was about to go out when she heard a voice coming from the other room, "Mom, the bed is warm, it's nice and cozy."

Bao'er quickly joined her older brother in calling out, "Your Majesty, the bed is warm!"

Aunt Li's gaze towards Gu An'an changed upon hearing this. "This really works. I'll get one for my family too."

Her husband's legs ache on cloudy days, and it's even more unbearable in the dead of winter. He really needs this warm kang (heated brick bed).

Gu An'an laughed, "Then I'll go help with it later."

Aunt Li quickly agreed, "I heard your mother-in-law has been having diarrhea these past few days and has lost a lot of weight."

Gu An'an looked at him with a hint of regret, "That must be really tough."

How could I not have diarrhea? First, Gu An'an slapped me dozens of times, knocking out two of my teeth.

They were given talisman water again.

Isn't talisman water just cinnabar used to write and draw on yellow paper, then burned to ashes and drunk?

It's perfectly normal to have diarrhea after drinking it.

It's no wonder she's losing weight, since she can't eat anything and has diarrhea.

But Grandma Jiang deserves it.

Aunt Li went inside to test the temperature of the kang (a heated brick bed) and thought it was indeed a good thing. She quickly went home and told her husband about it.

Gu An'an added some more firewood before going inside.

Both the main room and the adjacent east room had kang beds built. After all, Jiang Mingyi was not young anymore, so what was the point of him always sleeping with her?

He went to sleep by himself.

However, the children clearly had a good relationship with their elder brother, and they were all huddled together on the kang (heated brick bed) in the east room, listening to Jiang Mingyi read aloud.

Seeing Gu An'an come in, Jiang Mingxu quickly threw off the quilt. "Mom, the kang is warm now. Mom, come sit up here and tell us a story. My brother's stories are boring. Your stories are much better."

The little boy has gained some weight thanks to Gu An'an's care during this time, especially noticeable in his face.
