When Grandma Jiang came over with her two daughters-in-law, Gu An'an made an excuse to send her siblings to the east room.
After finally seeing off the two groups of guests, Jiang Mingzhu poked her head out from the east room and asked, "Has Jiang Cuicui left?"
Gu An'an waved and carefully examined the scratches on Jiang Mingzhu's face.
"Does it still hurt?"
The girl shook her head. "It doesn't hurt anymore, and it doesn't itch. The ointment feels cool and comfortable."
Although she said she didn't care, Jiang Mingzhu still carefully examined the scratches. They weren't as horribly mangled as before.
Perhaps it really is possible to avoid leaving scars?
Gu An'an pinched her uninjured right cheek. "Then remember to use it morning and night. In a few days, our Zhu'er's face will be as white and tender as a chicken egg again."
Jiang Mingzhu was a little embarrassed. "Mom, you just love to joke with me."
She grabbed Gu An'an's arm and led her into the house. "Is Jiang Cuicui really going to marry Lin San... the blacksmith?"
"Yes, the wedding arrangements have been finalized, and they said they'll hold the ceremony after the New Year."
Jiang Mingzhu was somewhat taken aback upon hearing this, "So early?"
Jiang Cuicui is a bit older than her brother, but even after the New Year, she will only be fourteen.
Fourteen, will I end up like that too?
"It's not too early. She's living at the blacksmith Lin's house now; if she doesn't get married soon, there will definitely be a lot of gossip." Gu An'an looked at the girl with a hint of worry in her eyes. "If Zhu'er finds someone she likes in the future, can she tell her mother?"
Jiang Mingzhu blushed slightly upon hearing this, "Mother, why are you saying that?"
She's only a few years old.
Remembering the male lead who had once given her a meal, Gu An'an suppressed her worries, "Mother just wanted to give you some advice, in case our Zhu'er makes a mistake in choosing someone."
"Mother." Why are you getting more and more inappropriate?
Fortunately, Jiang Mingxu and Bao'er ran back and quickly clung to Gu An'an, which relieved Jiang Mingzhu.
At least they stopped talking about her.
On the kang (a heated brick bed), Gu An'an was telling a story to two children, glancing out of the corner of her eye at the person playing with a handkerchief.
If she remembered correctly, Chunjiang Mingzhu would meet the male protagonist of the novel next year.
Should she set up an ambush beforehand?
Gu An'an wouldn't do something like getting rid of the male lead; what if it caused the whole world to collapse?
However, getting involved with the male lead would make her unhappy, so the further away she is, the better.
There's no rush for things after spring begins.
Gu An'an continued telling the story, "...that beautiful snail girl settled down in the water jar, observing human habits every day. Soon she understood how to live among humans and lived a happy life from then on."
Upon hearing the ending of the story, Jiang Mingyi seriously doubted the story he had heard before.
Didn't the Snail Fairy get married? Why is she depicted as living a lonely life in Gu An'an's story?
Could it be that I misheard?
The boy standing outside the window looked on with disbelief. He probably had misheard, since he couldn't remember when or who had told him such a story.
The young man's head started to ache again, and there seemed to be a booming sound in his mind.
He reached out to grab the window frame, but instead grabbed nothing and fell to the ground with a thud.
The commotion outside the window silenced the mother and her three children, who had been enjoying a peaceful time inside.
Bao'er was the most excited, asking, "Is Little Axe back?"
She didn't see Little Axe when she woke up this morning, and now she seems to be playing with it.
"Silly little sister, it's 'little tiger,' not 'little axe.'" Jiang Mingxu corrected her earnestly.
However, there was no sound outside, which made Gu An'an a little flustered. "Yi'er?"
There was no further activity.
That shouldn't be the case.
Jiang Mingyi has always been sharp of hearing and sight, and he heard himself calling his name...
Gu An'an quickly got off the kang (a heated brick bed), and as soon as she stepped outside, she saw the person lying under the eaves. "Yi'er, what happened to you?"
The young man's face was ashen, just like that of the blacksmith Lin who had been on the verge of death before!
"Brother's headache has probably flared up again." Jiang Mingzhu quickly helped carry him inside. "Let him lie down and rest."
Headache?
How could someone so young have a headache?
Gu An'an looked at the person whose face was ashen and pale, her eyes filled with worry, "Has this happened before? Zhu'er, do you remember when it started?"
Jiang Mingzhu shook her head. "It's been many years. He had an attack once when I first met my brother."
At that time, my mother hadn't married into the family yet, and there were no Bao'er and Mingxu.
Her brother suffered a headache and became completely still. She remembered her aunt saying, "What if this child dies? How are we going to explain this to the third son?"
Jiang Mingzhu couldn't quite remember what her uncle said, but she remembered holding her brother's hand and waiting for him to wake up, but he wouldn't open his eyes.
Jiang Mingzhu was only four years old at the time. She couldn't stay awake and fell asleep. When she woke up, her older brother was looking at her. "Did I scare you?"
"Later, my brother would have relapses from time to time. The last time he had a headache was on his birthday."
Jiang Mingyi's birthday is in June.
Half a year has passed.
“My brother would fall into a deep sleep every time his headache flared up, but he would wake up the next day.”
Gu An'an thought for a moment. It seemed that the original owner had never seen Jiang Mingyi suffer from a headache before, which meant that the young man had obviously been hiding from him.
"I'll take your brother to see a doctor later."
Jiang Mingzhu's eyes lit up upon hearing this, but quickly dimmed again. "My brother's headaches were all caused by us. If it weren't for us, he..."
Gu An'an interrupted the girl's self-pity, "Zhu'er, you are siblings, you are family, you should love and help each other, and never abandon each other no matter what. You are not a burden to Yi'er, you can't have such thoughts, understand?"
