Chapter 35 Setting a Trap to Catch Wild Pheasants

But this thin wooden stick seemed even sturdier than an iron rod.

He held on like that, and didn't move at all.

The young man finally managed to stop his fall, only to realize that his lower body had landed on the edge of a cliff.

Now, the only support is this extremely thin wooden stick.

A few seconds ago, Gu An'an threw the entrenching tool with all her might.

She had never been a javelin thrower before, but at this point she could only pin her hopes on this shovel.

If this really is some kind of magic weapon, it must be able to work, right?

The entrenching tool was firmly embedded in the snow, finally giving Jiang Mingyi some support.

Gu An'an quickly went over and pulled the person up.

The ground was slippery after the snow, and she was afraid that she might fall with Jiang Mingyi. She was very careful and struggled for a while before she could lie down on the snow and catch her breath.

"Didn't I tell you to stay home and take care of your younger siblings? Why did you go up the mountain? If something really happens, how am I supposed to explain it to your father?"

She was genuinely terrified.

I wasn't this scared when I almost fell off a cliff while picking persimmons.

People who have died once cherish their lives greatly, yet they are not afraid of death.

But Jiang Mingyi is only a teenager, a boy in his early teens who doesn't know the beauty of life. How can he take such a risk?

The usually calm and collected young man was now breathing rapidly. The brush with death had made him more panicked than ever before, a stark contrast to his current state of relief.

Just as she was about to thank Gu An'an, she was suddenly scolded. The gratitude that had been lingering in her heart vanished instantly, replaced by inexplicable anger.

"He's long dead, you don't need to explain to him."

Gu An'an: "..."

She was speechless for a moment.

The wind stopped, and the snow stopped.

The mountain suddenly became so quiet, with only the heavy breathing of two people.

After a while, Gu An'an finally sat up. "Let's go upstairs and warm ourselves by the fire."

He was suddenly kicked, and although the kick wasn't very strong, the young man was still a little annoyed. He patted the snow off his body and went upstairs.

When he remembered something and turned around, he saw Gu An'an following behind him.

The thin wooden stick by the cliff edge had disappeared, but Gu An'an now had a small shovel in her hand.

"You inserted it there on purpose?"

"Yeah, I was planning to set a trap, but it suddenly started snowing and I forgot to do it."

Gu An'an lied without even blushing, "Alright, hurry up and go inside to warm yourself by the fire, be careful not to catch a cold later."

She looked disgusted as she carried the entrenching tool inside.

This is indeed a treasure, but it's too hot to handle. It's been spotted by Jiang Mingyi, the smartest one. Hopefully, this kid won't have any wild ideas.

There are no supernatural forces or strange phenomena in this world; they're all lies, lies.

There was some firewood in the cave, which Gu An'an lit with straw.

"Take off your shoes and warm your feet."

When cold air enters through the feet, it is easiest to catch a cold.

These days, let alone a cold, even a toothache can be fatal.

Even though Jiang Mingyi was the most physically robust, Gu An'an dared not underestimate him.

These words stunned Jiang Mingyi. Seeing the growing impatience in her eyes, the young man, not wanting to be scolded any longer, quickly took off his shoes.

It was completely soaked; even the socks were dripping wet.

Seeing this, Gu An'an sighed, "Why are you going up the mountain in this heavy snow? Are you afraid I'll run away and abandon you guys?"

She took the shoes and helped warm them by the fire, letting Jiang Mingyi concentrate on drying his socks.

The young man just sat there quietly without saying a word. After a long while, he put his socks back on and then asked, "What was that that ran out just now?"

"I don't know. Maybe they came in to escape the wind and snow, but ran away when they saw people inside."

She pretended not to know, which made Jiang Mingyi frown. He hadn't seen it clearly either, only that the thing ran very fast, looked a bit like a tiger, but was rather thin and long, and was different from a tiger.

"Did you find anything on the mountain?"

Gu An'an smiled wryly upon hearing this, "It started snowing as soon as we arrived. Let's go back first. If all else fails, we can sell those sausages later."

She minced pork and stuffed it into sausages a while ago. After boiling them, she dried them. They should have developed a good flavor by now. She can cut a few slices of sausage into her ramen and add them to the noodles. It should have a unique flavor. I think it'll be alright.

Jiang Mingyi nodded, "I'm all better now, let's go back."

The family members were waiting for him to bring the person back, and every fifteen minutes of delay meant another fifteen minutes of anxiety for them.

Gu An'an looked at the boots and felt that they weren't so wet anymore. "Okay, let's go back."

With the mountains blocked by heavy snow, I don't expect to find any medicinal herbs. I'll go back and sleep.

Just as the mother and daughter came out of the cave, Gu An'an grabbed Jiang Mingyi.

The young man, seeing her listening intently, followed suit.

Just then, a gust of wind blew by, and Gu An'an's stray hairs that fell beside her ears suddenly brushed against Jiang Mingyi's forehead and cheeks.

It felt like a feather brushing against a ticklish spot, making his ears turn bright red and burning hot.

"I heard a chirping sound. After the heavy snow closes the mountains and forests, wild animals will come out to forage. This should be the sound of pheasants. Let's go and take a look."

Are there any pheasants?

Jiang Mingyi didn't recognize the words. He looked at the person walking in front of him and quickly pinched his earlobe.

Seeing Gu An'an heading in that direction on her own, the young man quickly followed.

Sure enough, there were pheasants, and quite a few of them.

Gu An'an's eyes widened. The wild pheasants in the mountains are good at running, so their meat is particularly firm and delicious.
