Chapter 87 Laxatives

Gu An'an never expected that one day she would see Sister-in-law Jiang apologize to her.

"I made a few dishes at home, why don't you take the kids over and have some?" Jiang's sister-in-law was surprisingly warm, grabbing Gu An'an's hand and exchanging pleasantries. "I may be a bit stubborn, but I don't have any bad intentions. Actually, since your older brother isn't home right now, I can understand how hard you've worked all these years."

Gu An'an had witnessed this kind of person speaking to people in a human way and to ghosts in a ghost way before. A high EQ way of saying it is: This person knows how to get along with people and how to handle things.

As for Sister-in-law Jiang, she didn't think she was sincerely apologizing to her.

But what does it matter? We'll just deal with whatever comes our way.

"Mom, I think I'd better stay home. What if, like last time, a dog or something comes into the kitchen and ruins all the meatballs you made?"

In the kitchen.

Sister-in-law Jiang laughed and said, "Just close the door."

Jiang Mingzhu was still worried, which made her sister-in-law anxious. "Why is this child so stubborn?"

"I was just worried, but it's okay, there's not much stuff anyway."

Jiang Da Sao's actions are typical of a weasel offering New Year's greetings with ill intentions.

Gu An'an didn't mind playing along.

She was worried about not having a proper reason to go to the Jiang family's old residence.

With several children in tow, Gu An'an headed towards the Jiang family's old residence.

"Won't Mom be unhappy if I go to your place for dinner, sister-in-law?"

Sister-in-law Jiang laughed, "It's alright, Mother isn't home today."

"Not home?"

"He went to the clan chief's house for a banquet, and I reckon he won't come back unless he gets drunk."

The clan chief's wife and Old Lady Jiang were sisters, and they often visited each other.

Otherwise, how could an old widow like her have raised her three sons peacefully and smoothly?

Ultimately, there are still people backing them up.

"Isn't my second sister-in-law home either?"

Upon hearing this, Sister-in-law Jiang scoffed, "Don't worry about her, let's eat our food."

She didn't go to the main room, but set up a table in her own room with a few side dishes and a bottle of wine on it.

Jiang Mingzhu had recently gotten used to Gu An'an's cooking, and looking at the somewhat dull-colored side dishes, she really had no appetite.

If I had known, I would have stayed home and made some meatball soup with Bao'er and Mingxu.

Gu An'an didn't seem to mind. When she saw the plate of braised meat, she put a piece on each of the children's chopsticks, and soon the plate of meat was empty.

She was completely oblivious to Jiang's sister-in-law's cold expression. "It's rare for your aunt to treat us to a meal, so eat some meat."

No one wanted to respond to Sister-in-law Jiang's hospitality, but after Gu An'an spoke up, the children ate more or less.

First came the braised pork, followed by the scrambled eggs.

After finishing the best food, Gu An'an suddenly remembered something, "Where's Qiaoqiao?"

Hearing this, Sister-in-law Jiang panicked, picked up the small wine cup and took a sip, "That girl went out to play, I don't know when she will be back, don't worry about her."

Gu An'an smiled upon hearing this, "Is that so? Sister-in-law seems quite at ease."

As soon as she finished speaking, Gu An'an dropped the chopsticks in her hand to the ground. She frowned and picked them up.

Jiang Mingyi quickly stood up. "I'll go."

"No need." Gu An'an stood up after pressing the young man into a chair. "I'll go rinse the chopsticks."

She took a sip of wine, and a thin layer of red appeared on her fair face.

Jiang's sister-in-law looked at the person who was walking unsteadily and smiled wryly.

She happened to make eye contact with Jiang Mingyi, and quickly explained, "Look at your mother, she can't even walk steadily anymore."

Gu An'an leaned against the wall and went out, her steps becoming more steady after closing the door.

They think they can get her drunk with such a weak liquor? That's ridiculous.

Back when she used to chug several bottles of beer straight from the bottle and drink one glass of 50-proof liquor after another, who was she afraid of?

It's just a little bit of alcohol, what's there to be afraid of?

Upon arriving in the kitchen, Gu An'an quickly took out the laxative that Tian Bu'er had given her.

Sprinkling it in food is unreliable; it's more practical to throw it into the water tank.

After tossing in half a packet of laxatives, Gu An'an put the small paper packet away.

"What are you doing?"

The sound coming from the doorway made Gu An'an's hand tremble, and she almost dropped the remaining half-packet into the water tank.

Gu An'an slowly put away the small paper packet, then turned around with the chopsticks in hand. "The chopsticks are dirty. Come and wash them."

As he spoke, he scooped up a ladle of water and poured it onto the chopsticks.

Jiang Ersao looked at the person who staggered out of the kitchen, her eyes fixed on Gu An'an, and said, "You've been having a good time lately."

"It's alright." Gu An'an smiled, waving her chopsticks around. "Second sister-in-law has always had a smooth life, why would she envy me? Hehe."

Watching Gu An'an stagger away, Jiang Ersao scoffed, "She's just lucky."

It's just that she hasn't been feeling well lately and is too lazy to bother with anything, otherwise she would have made Gu An'an look foolish.

...

When Gu An'an and her five children returned home, they happened to run into Jiang Qiaoqiao.

The girl's sleeves were wet, and she was trying to cover them up.

"Qiaoqiao, did you go to the river to catch fish? Look, your clothes are all wet." He said, making a gesture to grab Jiang Qiaoqiao's hand.

Jiang Qiaoqiao quickly dodged, "I, I'm going home first."

She had her sleeves covered, but the smell was impossible to hide.

Jiang Mingzhu was very familiar with that smell. Just as she was about to chase after Jiang Qiaoqiao, Gu An'an stopped her.

The young girl was a little anxious. "Mom, she stole our meatballs and spring rolls."

"Silly girl, our names aren't written on it. Do you think she'd admit to stealing it?"
