Lin Wanwan looked at the textbook Cheng Jinyan had given her, and the more she read, the more difficult it seemed, her brows furrowing deeply.
"What? You don't understand?"
Lin Wanwan heard his voice, looked up and smiled, "A little."
“I’ll teach you,” Cheng Jinyan asked, smiling at her.
Lin Wanwan smiled and placed the book in his hand. "Okay, this is too difficult."
Cheng Jinyan sat down next to her with a book in his hand. "Are you giving up?"
"No, you can teach me. I won't give up, hahaha."
Cheng Jinyan taught her for a while, and seeing that she was a little tired, he put down his book and asked her, "Why don't you go for a walk? The horse farm is very big, and there is a garden in the back."
"I've been to the garden. Do you usually come here to stay?"
"Occasionally, I come here to find some peace and quiet when I'm feeling down."
Lin Wanwan stretched and asked, "Can I stay here from now on?"
Cheng Jinyan remained silent, looking at her for a while, then asked, "Do you like it here?"
"Yes, sometimes I think, 'Picking chrysanthemums by the eastern fence, I leisurely gaze at the southern mountains.' That's quite nice."
Cheng Jinyan was taken aback when he heard her say that. "You're 19 years old, right?"
Lin Wanwan was also stunned for a moment before saying, "It's confirmed, absolutely true."
"That doesn't sound like something a young girl would say."
Lin Wanwan stared blankly into the distance and said, "When I'm tired, I think about finding a quiet mountain, planting some flowers and vegetables, and sitting there daydreaming when I have nothing to do. I drink some tea, make some cookies, and do some handicrafts to pass the time. It seems like a pretty good idea."
Cheng Jinyan kept looking at her profile. Seeing her tired expression, he felt a little sad. "Why would you think that? You were so energetic every day before, I thought you wouldn't get tired."
"How could that be? Sometimes making others happy is tiring, okay? I'm not a cold, emotionless machine. I get tired too. Sometimes when I see others sad, I want to ignore them."
"You don't have to do those things, like making people happy and bringing joy to everyone. You don't have to be so sensible and tactful."
Lin Wanwan seemed lost in thought, staring blankly into the distance.
He didn't know how much time had passed, so much so that Cheng Jinyan thought she might have fallen asleep with her eyes open.
"But this world is a huge web of human relationships. I can disregard other people's feelings and act willfully today, but what about tomorrow? Unless I stay away from people and live alone in the mountains, I will never be able to escape the ways of the world."
Lin Wanwan turned her head to look at him. For a moment, Cheng Jinyan felt as if she was about to disappear. He felt a sudden panic and wanted to reach out and grab something.
"Has anything happened lately? Are you too tired? If there's anything you can't solve, you can tell me and I'll help you."
Lin Wanwan lay on the recliner, turned her head to look at him and smiled, "I wonder who is so lucky, they will definitely be very happy to marry you in the future."
"We don't know who will be lucky in the future, but for now, you can have a taste of this good fortune."
After speaking, Cheng Jinyan panicked a little, lowered his head to suppress his emotions, afraid that Lin Wanwan would notice something.
"Look how I got the better deal."
Hearing that her tone was natural and there was no clue, Cheng Jinyan breathed a sigh of relief and continued to ask her questions.
"So what exactly happened?"
"It's nothing, I'm probably just tired. I'm in a bad mood because I'm pregnant. I'm actually very afraid of having children. Before we got married, I had agreed with Lu Feng that we wouldn't have any children before Tuanzi turned five. But this child came unexpectedly, and I wasn't really prepared."
Why do you say that?
“I’m only 19 years old. I have no idea how to be a mother. I’m also really afraid of pain, stretch marks, and being ugly. I’m afraid I won’t be able to accept having stretch marks. I’ll definitely break down if my belly is covered in them.”
"How did you decide to keep him?"
Lin Wanwan glanced at him sideways, then lay back down in the chair. "It will hurt him even if I don't want him, and I'm scared too."
"Have you told Lu Feng?"
"I don't remember, but I did say that."
Lin Wanwan leaned back in her chair and fell asleep shortly afterward.
When I opened my eyes again, the sun was about to set, and I was covered with a small blanket.
"Awake? Do you want to stay here tonight? Brother Jinyan said we can stay the night before going back?"
Lin Wanwan turned her head to look at him and asked, "Won't Mom be worried?"
"It's alright. They should know we're staying here since we didn't go back."
“Okay,” Lin Wanwan stretched and stood up, looking around before asking, “Where are they?”
“They went to play in the backyard. Brother Jinyan said he’d roast a lamb to eat.”
Lin Wanwan's eyes lit up. "Really? Who's in charge of the cooking?"
Lu Feng shook his head. "We'll find out if we go and take a look."
The cook was the wife of the person in charge of the horse farm. When she saw that Lin Wanwan was pregnant, she reminded her to be careful when walking after dark, as this place was not like the city.
Lin Wanwan smiled and thanked her, then sat down next to her to help pick vegetables and asked how she planned to prepare the lamb offal.
"We usually use offal to make soup, I don't know if you guys are used to it."
Lin Wanwan smiled and said, "Sister Li, how about we try making it into a spicy hot pot today? We can eat lamb offal while also cooking some radishes, potatoes, and other things in it."
Li Gui readily agreed, "Okay, but I've never done this before, so you'll have to teach me."
Lin Wanwan nodded, "I've made it before, but the taste was just so-so. Sister, could you take a look and help me improve it? I'll make it at home from now on."
"Okay, you're a good talker, girl. You make people happy."
Lin Wanwan didn't speak, just smiled and looked around. "Sister Li, do you usually take care of things here?"
"Yes, my husband and I manage this place. There are more people at the horse farm, but Jin Yan doesn't like crowds, so he basically doesn't let people come here. This is the first time he's brought so many people here."
"Did Brother Jinyan have a girlfriend before?" Lin Wanwan asked gossipingly.
Li Gui paused for a moment, hesitated, then looked up and said, "I think there was one before, a very outstanding girl, but we broke up for some reason. It's been many years, and I haven't seen him with anyone since."
Just as Lin Wanwan was about to ask something else, Cheng Jinyan walked over. "What are you talking about?"
Lin Wanwan didn't hide anything and said with a smile, "I'm asking about your gossip."
Cheng Jinyan smiled and lowered her head to speak to him, "What gossip could I possibly have?"
"I just asked you if you've ever had a girlfriend before," Lin Wanwan said, picking up a piece of lettuce and putting it to his lips. "Now, please answer that question yourself."
Cheng Jinyan glanced down at the lettuce in his mouth, then looked at Lin Wanwan and said, "I'm 32 now. Wouldn't it be strange if I didn't have a girlfriend before?"
"Then why did you break up? And why didn't you date anyone all these years?"
"Which newspaper are you a reporter from? Your question is so unprofessional."
"I'm sorry, I'm an intern. Please bear with me, Director Cheng."
Lin Wanwan laughed so hard she couldn't stand up straight, and Bai Ying and Lin Xiaohai also came over to join in the fun.
