Chapter 101 Returning to the Capital 3

"I have something to do at school, so I can't come get your gift after I'm done," Gu Bei said, waving the gift in his hand.

Lin Wanwan immediately adopted a money-grubbing attitude, as if money was everything.

Gu Bei laughed uncontrollably, "Why are you making such a face? Anyone who didn't know better would think we were being mean to you."

Lin Wanwan took the gift and quickly shook her head, "No, no, I wouldn't dare, you're the best, brother."

Gu Bei handed another document to Bai Ying, saying, "I heard I have another younger sister. This is a gift for our first meeting."

Bai Ying immediately stood up, accepted the gift, and thanked him, "Thank you, brother. My name is Bai Ying."

"I know, I know. My mom has called me countless times about this. She says she can contact me anytime if I need anything in Beijing," Gu Bei said, greeting the elders present before sitting down next to Lin Xiaohai.

Xu Zhe bluntly exposed his argument, "Looking for you? We couldn't find you once school started, so how could Bai Ying possibly look for you?"

Gu Bei sighed helplessly and rubbed his forehead. "Grandpa, can you please stop embarrassing me? I just met my sister for the first time."

"No need to look for my brother, she's staying here with me, so she'll naturally come to me."

Qian Qian thought for a moment but didn't speak. Song Lanzhi smiled and said, "Bai Ying, if there's anything inconvenient about staying here, just tell me. Don't be shy."

Bai Ying nodded and said, "Thank you, Aunt Song."

"Bai Qi, don't be shy. If you need anything, just come to Auntie."

Bai Qi smiled and said, "At least someone remembered me tonight. I thought everyone was ignoring me and only caring about my sister."

Everyone was amused by him, and after dinner, Song Lanzhi had the driver take everyone away.

Lin Wanwan led Bai Ying into the room. "You'll be staying in this room. You were supposed to stay in the room opposite mine, but Mom and I turned that room into a dining room. I'm sorry to trouble you to stay in this courtyard."

Lin Wanwan led her to see the house. "But I had my mom decorate the rooms specially. No one else lives in this yard except your brother, you, your aunt, and Uncle Li."

The house is large, with a small living room and a small bathroom next to it.

Bai Ying looked at the sunflowers that had been specially placed in the room, which were her favorites, and even her skincare products were ready on the dressing table.

“These skincare products were all bought by my mom, as were the pajamas on the bed and the blankets. The whole yard has underfloor heating, but it might not be as warm as a kang (heated brick bed). If you feel cold, there are blankets in the closet. If you are cold, just tell me and I'll boil a hot water bottle for you.”

As Lin Wanwan was talking to herself, Bai Ying suddenly hugged her.

"Wanwan, thank you."

Lin Wanwan heard that her voice was trembling with tears, so she patted her back and said, "Don't cry, or people will think I'm bullying you."

He took her hand and led her to the outer room. "Come on, this is the bookshelf and desk that I had Mom prepare. You can study here. Look, Mom even prepared a small desk lamp."

Lin Wanwan thought for a moment and said, "I like this kind of Chinese-style furniture, so Mom bought this kind for you. If you don't like it, we can change to something else. I'll go with you to pick one out."

"Ah, it's such a waste to put a potted plant here by the window. Let's pick out a sofa tomorrow and move this display stand over. You can come and lie down here when you're tired of studying."

Seeing Bai Ying's expression as if she was about to cry again, Lin Wanwan quickly said, "Don't cry. If you don't like it, we'll change it."

"I like them, I like them all, thank you."

Lin Wanwan pulled her along and said, "Let's go thank my mom tomorrow. Isn't she beautiful, kind-hearted, and incredibly rich?"

"Wanwan, we're coming in," Lu Feng knocked on the door.

"Come in," he said immediately as Bai Qi and Lu Feng entered. "Hey, close the door! Don't let the heat escape. There's no kang (heated brick bed) at home, and Bai Ying will get cold tonight."

When Bai Qi entered the house and saw the furnishings and items inside, he knew that Lin Wanwan had arranged everything at her home.

She turned to Lu Feng and said, "Thank you, you've gone to so much trouble."

"Don't mention it. We prepared this for Bai Ying, not for you."

Lin Wanwan pulled her around and asked, "Are you cold? Do you want me to boil some hot water bottles for you?"

Just then, we heard Auntie knocking on the door from outside, "Wanwan, are you there?"

Lu Feng opened the door, and the aunt smiled when she saw that they were all there and said, "You're all here. Madam asked me to bring some hot water bottles to Bai Ying."

Lin Wanwan said with a smile, "I was just saying that, and here you are. Thank you, Auntie."

"Don't mention it. This underfloor heating is really warm even when you're not sitting on it during the day. I was worried you'd get cold at night. Wanwan said you're all used to sleeping on the kang (heated brick bed) over there, and she's not used to it when she comes back. So I've put all the blankets in your bed and brought you another one to put by your feet. If you get cold at night, just cover yourself with it."

Bai Ying stepped forward to thank her, "Thank you, Auntie, I feel quite warm."

“You’re warm now, but you won’t be as warm if you wear these clothes to bed. Let me cover you up better.”

The aunt left right after she finished speaking, and Lin Wanwan, seeing that she didn't need anything, prepared to leave as well.

"Oh, right, hot water. Auntie said she brought you a few thermos flasks in the bathroom. See if that's enough. If not, just come out and find Auntie."

Bai Ying nodded, "I understand!"

"By the way, what do you want to eat tomorrow morning? Tell me and I'll tell Auntie."

Bai Ying laughed uncontrollably, "Oh dear, I'm not a child anymore, don't worry about me. You're a mother now, I'm not your daughter anymore. You should go now, this is fun. If you don't sleep, the baby in your belly will."

Lin Wanwan rolled her eyes. "Who cares about you? We're leaving." She took Lu Feng's arm and walked out.

"Goodnight, Brother Baiqi, we're leaving."

Watching the two walk away, Bai Qi patted his younger sister's head and said, "I don't know what kind of good luck you silly girl have. They are all so good to you. In the future, you should treat them as family in the capital. If you have anything to say, just say it. Don't keep it to yourself."

Bai Ying nodded with red eyes, "Brother, will you mind if I call Aunt Gu 'Mom'?"

"How could we blame you? Just treat Aunt Gu as your godmother, and your parents won't blame you either."

Bai Ying threw herself on him and cried, "Brother, this year's Spring Festival is the happiest Spring Festival I've ever had. Please come to Beijing soon, okay? I will work hard to get into university. If you come to Beijing, we can be together."

Bai Qi nodded, "Brother, work hard! You should work hard too. Maybe you can support your brother in the future."

Bai Ying chuckled. "Okay, brother, when are you leaving?"

"I'll stay with you for a week and then leave. Tomorrow we'll visit Uncle Lin. He and Dad were comrades-in-arms back then. Even if we didn't have that connection, Wanwan has been so good to you, so since we're here, we should definitely pay him a visit."

Bai Ying nodded. "Brother, you should go and rest."
