After a while, Lin Wanwan heard a voice say, "Thank you."
At first, I thought I had misheard, so I turned around and asked, "What did you say?"
"Thank you," Wen Nuan said softly, almost inaudibly. If the dormitory hadn't been quiet and she hadn't been sitting next to Lin Wanwan, her voice would have been barely audible.
"I'm not doing this for you. Your self-destructive behavior has nothing to do with me. But as classmates, I advise you to think it through. Also, I'm here to study, not for anything else, so don't treat me as an imaginary enemy. I'm not your opponent."
Lin Wanwan stopped writing, turned to face her, looked into her eyes seriously, and said, "If you continue like this, you will never be my match."
Wen Nuan bit her lip as she looked at her, her eyes brimming with tears.
Lin Wanwan ignored her and turned back to continue reading her book.
The day before the college entrance examination, Lin Wanwan made a special trip home.
Bai Ying was very happy to see her. "Why are you back?"
"I'll come back to cheer you on. Are you nervous?"
Bai Ying smiled a little embarrassedly, "A little."
"Don't be afraid, you're very capable. I've asked your tutor, and if you perform normally, you'll be fine."
Bai Ying whispered in her ear, "Our homeroom teacher has been transferred to a primary school. He apologized to me before he left. It seems the school gave him a severe punishment, saying they'd give him one last chance and let him teach in a primary school."
"Really? He can still teach? I thought he had to go back to his hometown."
“I heard from my deskmate that he graduated from Peking University and was ranked first in his grade for four years. He had excellent grades, so the school was willing to give him one last chance.”
Lin Wanwan looked her over. "You have good friends at school?"
Bai Ying smiled shyly, "Yes, my deskmate is super nice. Before, when I was studying at home, she even came to my house to see me and encourage me. Later, when we went back to school, we encouraged each other."
