Chapter 23 Demands an Explanation

Lin Wanwan continued, her voice choked with emotion, "I'm young, and Tuanzi isn't my biological child, but I've raised him as my own since I married you. What should he call me if not 'Mom'? Are there any special regulations in the military that prevent him from calling me 'Mom'?"

Upon hearing the news, Xiao Hongjun rushed over and grabbed his mother, asking, "What are you trying to do? Didn't I tell you not to talk nonsense?"

After saying that, she turned around and apologized to Lin Wanwan and Lu Feng, "I'm sorry, sister-in-law, my mother didn't mean it. She didn't mean anything by it."

"Just saying it was unintentional is enough? I don't even know her, and she came up here and called me a shameless vixen. She said it was unintentional? If she meant it, wouldn't she have broken up our family and ruined our home?" Lin Wanwan didn't want to make a big deal out of it; the bigger the commotion, the better.

To avoid people bringing this up every few days, it's better to resolve it once and for all.

Lin Wanwan originally wanted to resolve the issue gradually, but who knew that this stupid old woman would walk right into her line of fire, so she had no choice but to use her as a scapegoat.

Xiao Hongjun initially thought that since she was young, he would just apologize casually and let it go. He and Lu Feng were equals and competitors, and they would have to work together in the future. Most people would try to downplay the situation and just apologize.

He hadn't expected his new wife, Lu Feng, to be so formidable, showing no respect whatsoever. "Sister-in-law, Lu Feng and I are comrades-in-arms. My mother was in the wrong. I'll apologize to you on her behalf. Just consider it giving Brother Xiao some face, and let's just let this matter go."

Lin Wanwan stared at him and slowly said, "Brother Xiao is now saying that you and Lu Feng are comrades-in-arms, and he wants me to give you face and just let it go?"

Lin Wanwan didn't give him a chance to speak and continued, "When your mother scolded me, did she ever think that you and Lu Feng were comrades-in-arms? Give Lu Feng some face and watch your mouth."

"I haven't even said a word to her since I came here today, and she immediately started insulting me. She doesn't give Lu Feng any face at all. Today, she insulted me a couple of times, and you expect me to give her face because you and Lu Feng are comrades-in-arms? What if she gets upset tomorrow and insults me again? Do you expect me to give her face then? Or what if someone else insults me a couple of times and slaps me? Do you expect me to give them face again because you're family and Lu Feng is a comrade-in-arms?"

With red eyes, Lin Wanwan said softly, "Brother Xiao and Auntie, you wouldn't think I'm easy to manipulate just because I'm young, would you?"

At this moment, Wang Zhijun coughed and said, "Xiao Hongjun, I don't care about your family affairs. Lu Feng has only been back for a few days and he's already going to scold his wife. When I came, she was still arrogantly standing with her hands on her hips, scolding me. Is she any kind of person?"

Lu Feng looked down and asked Lin Wanwan, "Are you hungry? Do you want to go back for breakfast?"

“I’m hungry, I’m not going back. She hasn’t apologized to me yet,” Lin Wanwan said in a low voice, but everyone around her could hear her clearly.

Li Chunhua was furious. She was being scolded and bullied by a young girl, and now the girl wanted her to apologize.

Why should I apologize to a mere young girl like you? Who do you think you are?

Seeing that she was incorrigible, Lin Wanwan directly said, "Then who do you think you are? How dare you interfere in our family affairs?"

“Political Commissar Wang, my wife and I have only been here a few days. She is young and doesn’t know any of the women in the family compound yet. Today, on her first day out, she was insulted. I hope the organization can give my wife justice. She is educated and a person of good character. She gave up her job in Beijing to support my career and came all the way here with me. I never expected to be treated like this. I hope the organization can give me an explanation,” Lu Feng said in a deep voice.

"Political Commissar, my wife hasn't had breakfast yet. She's not feeling well, so I'll take her and the children home first."

Wang Zhijun was really having a headache. Li Chunhua had been here for a year, and she did nothing but cause trouble all day long. "Fine, you can go back now."

Lu Feng carried the child in one arm and held her hand with the other as they walked home, while Lin Xiaohai looked at his sister with admiration.

As soon as they got home, Lin Xiaohai gave her a thumbs up and said, "Sis, you're amazing, you're very strong."

Lin Wanwan looked at him and said, "Tuanzi was so scared that she cried just now, and you didn't even push her away and come back. Tuanzi's face was all red from crying."

"I'm innocent! I'm just his doorman. We're all military dependents, and it's not good to make things too awkward. You and your brother-in-law still have to live here," Lin Xiaohai said, feeling utterly wronged.

Lin Wanwan looked at him seriously and said, "Your brother-in-law and I live here not by pandering to everyone or giving in at every turn. People won't respect you just because you back down. They'll just think you're easy to bully, weak, and easy to manipulate. But you have to know when to be pragmatic. Not every situation needs to be resolved forcefully."

"Sis, can you stop lecturing me whenever you get the chance?" Lin Xiaohai, being very perceptive, carried the child back into the house, leaving the young couple to talk.

After he ran away, Lin Wanwan went to stop Lu Feng and asked, "Won't this cause you trouble?"

Lu Feng ignored her and only told her to sit down and eat. Lin Wanwan drank her golden millet porridge and glanced at Lu Feng. Seeing that he didn't say anything, she angrily threw down her spoon.

“Lu Feng, I deliberately took a tough stance today. I had planned this before I came. I knew someone would bring up the fact that I'm a stepmother. Besides, we got married less than a year after Tuanzi's mother passed away. People who don't know the situation might think you're some kind of heartless man who forced Tuanzi's mother to her death before marrying me. Those malicious people might even say that we were together before and that we conspired to drive Tuanzi's biological mother to her death. I want them to know that this is not something to be talked about lightly, and that I'm not someone to be trifled with. This way, I can avoid a lot of trouble.”

Lin Wanwan grew angrier as she spoke, glaring at Lu Feng without saying a word, then turned and sat on the sofa, sulking.

Seeing Lu Feng still smiling, she got even angrier. "What are you laughing at? Are you laughing because I'm going back to Beijing?!"

"Didn't I tell you before? Don't be afraid of causing me trouble. Just do what you want to do. Wasn't my attitude clear just now? I'm on your side. Even if there's trouble, I'll handle it. You don't need to worry at all. Besides, I think what you said to Xiao Hai was right," Lu Feng said, sitting down next to her and putting his arm around her.

Lin Wanwan looked at him with red eyes, "Why didn't you say so earlier? I thought you were angry with me."

“I’m angry too. I’ve told you so many times that I’m your husband and I trust you. I hope you trust me too. Just do what you want to do and leave everything else to me. I’ll take care of it for you.”

Lu Feng wiped away her tears, "Don't cry, or Xiao Hai will think I'm bullying you."

Lin Wanwan cried in his arms, she didn't know why the tears kept flowing.

"Eat something, aren't you hungry?"

"Thank you, Lu Feng."

Lu Feng kissed the corner of her eye, "Don't cry, you little rascal, your eyes will get swollen in a bit."
