On her first day at work, Lin Wanwan felt a little out of place looking at her direct supervisor.
Seeing that everyone else had left, Lin Wanwan asked softly, "Does that mean I can't call him 'Senior Brother' anymore?"
Cheng Jinyan chuckled and said, "Who said that?"
"To avoid suspicion."
"What's there to avoid? Everyone knows that."
Lin Wanwan thought about it and agreed. She bowed to Cheng Jinyan and said, "Please guide me in the future, Director Cheng."
"The Information Department is very busy, so be prepared."
"We were prepared long ago."
Lin Wanwan looked radiant and smiled broadly.
Cheng Jinyan didn't say anything and told her to go to work.
After Lin Wanwan reported for duty, Song Lanzhi went home after less than a month.
"Mom, why are you back?" Lin Wanwan was a little surprised to see Song Lanzhi sitting in the living room when she came home from get off work.
"You're back? Are you tired? Are you happy at your new job?"
Lin Wanwan sat down next to her. "I'm fine. Why are you back?"
“You, Lu Feng, and An Yang are all busy, and there’s no one to take care of the child, so I have to come back and look after him.”
"Mom, just have fun. They're both grown up now, you don't need to keep an eye on them all the time."
Song Lanzhi patted her hand, "I'm worried about that too."
Lin Wanwan looked at her and asked, "Didn't you have fun over there?"
Song Lanzhi shook her head, "How could I not be happy? It's so much fun! I can't stay still, I have to come back and watch over you all."
Lin Wanwan hugged her arm and said, "Mom, you're so kind."
"Go wash up quickly, and we'll eat when Lu Feng comes back."
Lin Wanwan nodded.
Lin Wanwan had just finished washing up and changed into comfortable loungewear when she heard someone knocking on the door.
Who is it?
Lin Wanwan heard a sobbing sound. "Wanwan, it's me."
He opened the door and saw Zheng Yan crying outside.
"Yanyan? What's wrong? Come in quickly."
Zheng Yan sat on the sofa and cried for a long time before she had the strength to speak.
"I can't go on like this anymore."
Lin Wanwan looked puzzled. "What's wrong? Aren't you and Brother Ren on good terms?"
"My mother-in-law is really torturous. I really can't stand being at home for even a minute longer."
"Your mother-in-law hasn't left yet?"
Lin Wanwan looked at her in surprise.
“No, Zijie is usually busy, and I don’t want to complain to her about every little thing. But now my mother-in-law is even more unreasonable and doesn’t care at all. When I went back this afternoon, I saw my mother-in-law making Yingying wash her and my sister-in-law’s clothes.”
Lin Wanwan was so surprised she could hardly close her mouth. "Don't you have a housekeeper? Yingying is only ten years old, why is she helping your mother-in-law wash clothes?"
"My mother-in-law drove my aunt away, and I had no choice but to leave..."
"How can you be so useless? You have such a fierce personality, how come you can't stand up to your mother-in-law? You need to be more assertive, what about the two children?"
"Aunt Song is with them in the living room."
Lin Wanwan looked at him with exasperation, "What am I supposed to say to you?"
Zheng Yan stopped crying. "My mother-in-law is such a scoundrel. Whenever we ask her to leave, she sleeps at our doorstep and accuses Zijie and me of abusing her. My sister-in-law does nothing but try to climb the social ladder. She keeps attracting hooligans and bringing them home. I'm so angry!"
"So what do you want to do now? You don't want me to step in and drive them away, do you?"
Zheng Yan shook her head. "We'll handle it ourselves, but could you let me stay with the children for a while? I don't want to keep it a secret for them any longer. We'll wait for Ren Zijie to come back and deal with it himself. If he can't handle it well, I'll divorce him."
Lin Wanwan looked at her in surprise, "Are you serious?"
"It couldn't be more real."
Zheng Yan wiped away her tears, "I always thought he was busy and didn't want to cause him trouble, but he knows his mother's character best. Every time he comes back, he seems to be able to solve some problems, but in reality, he just tries to smooth things over. I don't want to continue like this. Only one of us can stay, me or his mother."
Lin Wanwan was even more surprised, "Your husband doesn't seem to have this kind of personality."
"Men are the best at playing dumb; they'll never feel the pain until the fire burns them."
Lin Wanwan nodded, "I will support whatever you do, but don't talk about divorce lightly. Some words can't be taken back once they're spoken. You and Brother Ren have feelings for each other and have been through so much together."
Zheng Yan paused for a moment and then nodded, "I'll be troubling you and Auntie during this time."
"Why say all this? The house is so big, living together won't affect me at all. You can stay as long as you want."
Zheng Yan, looking haggard, recounted how embarrassing her mother-in-law was in the neighborhood.
The residents of Lin Wanwan's community, while not all of them are big shots, are all wealthy people with respectable jobs.
Lin Wanwan clicked her tongue in amazement.
“She snatched snacks from other children and got caught, but she wouldn’t admit it. When they asked her to pay for it, she threw a tantrum on the ground. She’s really shameless. She tries every means to take advantage of other people’s homes. People in the neighborhood avoid us like we’re something dirty, which is why Yingying and Haohao can’t make any good friends.”
Why didn't you tell Brother Ren about this sooner?
"Hmph," Zheng Yan sneered, "He's only good at trying to smooth things over."
"Uh, don't be impulsive. Stay at home for now and wait for Brother Ren to come back before we talk about it."
The aunt came over to call the two of them for dinner.
At the dinner table, Song Lanzhi saw that she had little appetite and comforted her, "You need to eat properly to find a way to solve the problem. If you don't eat, you'll ruin yourself."
Zheng Yan felt a pang of sadness as she watched her two children constantly eating.
Ever since her mother-in-law came, she's been saying that she's too extravagant, feeding the children too well.
Her mother-in-law controls everything at home: what they eat, what they use, and what she buys.
Seeing that she was staring at the child in a daze and her eyes were red again, Lin Wanwan immediately patted her.
"Hurry up and eat. Look how much my mom loves you. She's made all your favorite foods."
Zheng Yan came to her senses and thanked Song Lanzhi.
Ren Zijie stayed at the Lu family's house for ten days before returning from Pengcheng.
When I opened the door, I saw a mess; there were clothes and leftover snacks on the floor.
Ren Zijie frowned as he walked inside. The children had already gotten out of school, and no one was home. His wife's shoes weren't at the door either.
At that moment, a man wrapped in a bath towel walked out of the master bedroom.
The man looked at him and asked, "Who are you?"
Ren Zijie's forehead veins bulged as he roared, "Ren Ziqi, you get out here!!!"
When Ren Ziqi heard her older brother's voice, she was too scared to go out of the house.
Ren Zijie stepped forward, pushed the man aside, kicked open the door, and pulled his disheveled sister out of the house.
Seeing her lack of ambition, Ren Zijie slapped her hard across the face, yelling, "Shameless!"
The man understood, and immediately adopted a nonchalant attitude.
"Oh, it's you, big brother. Hello, my name is Wang Jin. We're boyfriend and girlfriend. Big brother, you're not that old-fashioned, are you?"
As Wang Jin spoke, he also put his arm around Ren Ziqi, who was stunned by the beating.
Ren Zijie's eyes turned red with anger. "Where's your sister-in-law?"
