Seeing that she wasn't angry, Lin Wanwan continued, "I'll have Lu Feng invite my brother-in-law over in a bit, and I'll go cook now!"
Li Mei shook her head with amusement as she watched her run away. "Well, you have to tell me what kind of style you want to make."
Lin Wanwan was happy to see that she had agreed, so she went back to get the drawings she had made and told her what kind of fabric to use.
"You're even drawing pictures?" Li Mei found it increasingly amusing.
"I don't know how, so I can only draw what I want and then make it by comparison," Lin Wanwan said, a little embarrassed.
"Alright, you go cook, I'll do it, and I'll watch the kids for you."
Lin Wanwan felt relieved and went to the kitchen. There would be many people in the evening, so Lin Wanwan thought she should steam some buns. Since there was still meat to cook at home, she would make twice-cooked pork, fried pork with onions and salt, hot and sour shredded potatoes, braised eggplant, stir-fried greens, and a tomato soup with meatballs.
There was still quite a bit of minced meat left from lunch. Lin Wanwan originally planned to make dumplings for dinner, but with so many people, there wasn't enough filling. It wouldn't be enough to just have dumplings when entertaining guests, so she decided to stir-fry a few dishes instead.
Lin Wanwan first kneaded the dough and set it aside to ferment, then steamed the rice and chopped the side dishes.
After chopping the vegetables, Lin Wanwan glanced at the fermenting dough in the basin. Seeing that it was almost ready, she started making steamed buns.
Round steamed buns are placed in a steamer basket and steamed together with rice.
It was almost 5:30. Lin Wanwan first put the meat in a pot to cook, then took it out and sliced it thinly. She heated a little oil in a pan, added the sliced pork belly and stir-fried it until the oil was rendered, then added ginger slices, fermented bean paste, and stir-fried until fragrant. She added garlic sprouts. Since the fermented bean paste was very salty, she didn't need to add any more salt. Lin Wanwan just drizzled a little soy sauce for seasoning. Once the garlic sprouts were cooked, it was ready to serve.
Salt-fried pork uses half-fat and half-lean meat. It doesn't need to be cooked in advance. Just put oil in the pan, put the thinly sliced meat in the pan and fry until the oil is rendered and cooked. Add ginger slices and garlic slices and stir-fry until fragrant. Add onions and stir-fry until the onions are soft. Add salt and soy sauce to taste, stir-fry for two minutes and it's ready to serve.
While cooking, Lin Wanwan saw Lu Feng and Political Commissar Wang enter the courtyard together through the kitchen window.
Lin Wanwan quickly finished stir-frying the shredded potatoes, washed her hands, and went out.
"Political Commissar Wang, how did you know I detained your wife?" Lin Wanwan greeted him with a smile, standing at the kitchen door in an apron.
"Hahaha, I was wondering why no one was home. I knew she was coming this afternoon, so I came to look for her, and I ran into Lu Feng on the way."
Hearing his laughter, Li Mei came out of the house and said with a smile, "You were detained, she insisted that I was good at sewing and made me sew curtains for her. You got tonight because my sister treated me to dinner."
Political Commissar Wang chuckled, "You've only been here for an afternoon, and you're already acting like someone's older sister?"
Li Mei laughed and pointed at Lin Wanwan, "She's so sweet-talking, always showering me with sweet words. That's how I fell for her." She then shrugged.
"Lu Feng, were you also persuaded to get married by her sweet words?" Li Mei joked, looking at Lu Feng.
Lu Feng, who was usually serious, rarely joked. "Yeah, all those sweet words all day long, it's no wonder they get fooled."
"Hahahahaha," Li Mei and her husband laughed non-stop.
“Lu Feng is usually quiet and serious, but now he’s cracking jokes. It seems this marriage was the right one,” Political Commissar Wang said with a smile.
"Sister, where's the child? Quickly call the child over, I'll finish cooking soon," Lin Wanwan said before heading back to the kitchen.
Seeing Lu Feng follow her in, Lin Wanwan turned around and asked him, "Aren't you going to keep Political Commissar Wang company? What are you doing here?"
"Are you tired? I'll do it with you," Lu Feng said, and went to help wash the vegetables out of the water.
Lin Wanwan stopped him, "Go make a pot of tea and keep Commissar Wang company. Don't worry about me. We're both in the kitchen. How can we leave our guests outside? Go ahead and ask Xiaohai to help me. I'll be done soon. I just need to stir-fry two vegetarian dishes. Go ahead and bring Tuanzi out to meet everyone. Mei-jie has been watching over her for me this afternoon."
Lu Feng thought for a moment, nodded in agreement, bent down and kissed the corner of his mouth, then went out.
"Sis, what do you need me to do?" Lin Xiaohai asked casually.
"Wash the vegetables. People are coming to visit, and you don't even come out to greet them," Lin Wanwan said, seizing the opportunity to lecture him.
"Sis, I don't know her. What am I doing out here? It's so awkward," Lin Xiaohai said while washing the vegetables.
Lin Wanwan didn't say anything more and quickly cooked the vegetables.
She invited Lin Xiaohai to help her carry the dishes out. When they were moving in, there were a few old stools, which Lin Wanwan had Lu Feng repair. With the addition of the four newly bought chairs, there were just enough for seven people to sit at one table.
"Sister, your child is already so big," Lin Wanwan said with a bit of surprise, Li Mei didn't look even thirty.
Li Mei smiled and said, "I'm 29 years old. Is it strange to have two children this big? My eldest son is named Wang Xiangyuan and he's nine years old. My second son is named Wang Manlu. Your brother-in-law said that the names of the two children together mean 'the road ahead is long and arduous.'"
Lin Wanwan nodded and gestured for them to sit down and eat. "Hurry up and sit down to eat. I feel like the table is too small. I thought it looked nice from the start."
"It looks nice, and it looks even better with that tablecloth on," Li Mei praised her with a smile.
"Is Sister Mei praising my good taste or praising her own skills?" Lin Wanwan also laughed. "Sister Mei, Political Commissar Wang, this is my younger brother, Lin Xiaohai. We brought too much stuff this time, and we also need to bring Tuanzi, so we asked him to come and help us."
"You call me 'sister wife' and 'political commissar,' isn't that too formal?" Wang Zhijun said, putting down his chopsticks.
"Brother-in-law, brother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister are eating," Lin Wanwan said with a smile.
Li Mei smiled and shook her head, "Sweet talker, huh? You've been showering me with sweet words all afternoon."
