Chapter 43 First Day at Work

Lin Wanwan looked at the bed full of cheongsams with worry. She had thought they weren't enough before, but now she couldn't wear them all.

Put the cheongsam that needs alteration aside and hang up the rest.

The next morning, Lin Wanwan chose a navy blue one-piece flat-cut fabric dress, which looked particularly artistic.

She simply braided a scorpion braid that hung loosely on the left side, making Lin Wanwan look even younger.

Lin Wanwan wore a light-colored jade bracelet with green flecks, and no other accessories. She looked in the mirror and was very satisfied; who wouldn't like someone young and beautiful?

Lu Feng made breakfast and called her, "Hurry up and eat, stop looking in the mirror, you're already very pretty."

Lin Wanwan smiled as she looked at him in the mirror, "Does it look good?"

"She's beautiful, exceptionally beautiful. My wife is the most beautiful person I've ever seen."

"Lu Feng, have you really never been in a relationship before? You're spouting all these little phrases, it doesn't sound like you've never been in a relationship."

Lu Feng raised his hands to beg for mercy, "Absolutely true, I guarantee it with my integrity, I have only ever been with one girl, you."

Lin Wanwan hugged his neck. "Really? Are you sure?"

Lu Feng lowered his head and kissed her directly, "I'm sure, I only like you."

Lin Wanwan followed Li Mei to the Women's Federation office. She looked around and saw that the office seemed to be a temporary structure, looking simple and rudimentary. Inside, there were only a few desks and a separate mediation room.

Li Mei led her to a desk. "Please sit here. Let me give you a brief introduction. Our Women's Federation is a temporary department. There are too many women in the compound, and there are many conflicts."

“When we’re not busy, we get together to study. You went to high school, so could you help me see what we need to improve in this office?” Li Mei whispered the last sentence in her ear.

Li Mei looked around to make sure no one was there. "The higher-ups intend to reorganize this department to specifically address the work related to women and children. Nobody's in charge, so they want me to take on the responsibility. Can you help me figure out how to reorganize it?"

Lin Wanwan looked around, hesitating to speak.

"Just tell me what's on your mind, how could I blame you?"

"I don't think we have any files or records, do we?" Lin Wanwan said, a little embarrassed.

Li Mei wondered, "We're here to solve problems for people, why do we need to handle files and case files? Sometimes it's just resolving family disputes, or disputes between a few military families."

Lin Wanwan didn't know how to explain, "Look, you said the higher-ups intend to regulate this department. If it's been established for six months, what will the leaders ask you? What have you been doing all year?"

"What do you mean? Half a year is neither a long nor a short time. You said yourself that this department is for resolving disputes, big or small. You might remember the big conflicts, but what about the small ones? You can't possibly recount them all verbally."

Li Mei thought for a moment and asked her, "So what do you mean?"

Lin Wanwan was about to say something when she saw several women walk in, and she quickly stopped talking.

Upon seeing the newcomers, Li Mei immediately called out, "Lanhua, Shufen, Jingjing, come over here and let me introduce you. This is Lin Wanwan, the wife of the battalion commander of the first regiment. She hasn't been here long, but she's capable and highly educated. I've brought her to our department."

"Wanwan, this is He Lanhua, the wife of the first battalion commander of the second regiment. This is Zhang Jing, the wife of the second battalion commander of the second regiment. This is Qin Shufen, the wife of the third battalion commander of the first regiment."

Lin Wanwan greeted them with a smile, "I'm young, so I'll call you all sisters-in-law. Sister Li Mei's words are too exaggerated. I don't have much ability, I just wanted to give it a try. I've never done this before, so I hope you sisters-in-law won't think I'm clumsy and will teach me more."

The group exchanged glances, noticing her youthful face but smooth manner of speaking, and greeted her with smiles.

Seeing that they were chatting happily, Li Mei picked up her bag and walked out. "You guys chat, I have to go out for a bit. I was told before that I would arrange a better office for us, but I don't know if it's been arranged yet. I'll go and check on it."

"By the way, I heard Battalion Commander Xiao was demoted. The news came early this morning. His mother was making a scene in the compound. She probably doesn't want her son to get promoted, and she still dares to cause trouble!" Qin Shufen said with a smile.

“His mother is used to being arrogant in the compound. She wants to sneer at everyone she sees. She really thinks the compound is her backyard. I think Xiao Hongjun deserves it. He can’t even control his own mother. He has no manners at all.” Zhang Jing, the youngest and most educated, couldn’t stand Li Chunhua’s scoundrels.

“Who says otherwise? Liang Yuting used to come to us every few days. We tried to persuade her to get a divorce and leave on her own, but she just wouldn’t. She even wanted us to kick Li Chunhua out. She has her own feet, what can we do about where she goes?” He Lanhua said with a look of exasperation.

"Hey, Xiaolin, how did you offend her? You haven't been here long," Zhang Jing couldn't help but ask.

Lin Wanwan was stunned for a moment. "I don't know either. I don't know who she is, and I don't know how I offended her. I just held the child and comforted her a couple of times, saying, 'Mommy's here, don't be afraid.' I don't know what I said offended her, but she started yelling at me. I'm still wondering about it."

"You really don't know her?" Even Qin Shufen was surprised.

"I really don't know him. We only met for the first time that day. My sisters-in-law all know that Lu Feng and I are in our second marriage, so there's bound to be a lot of gossip."

"Besides, Lu Feng has a son. I know many people are laughing at me. They might not believe that I get along well with my child, but if I dare to treat my child badly, they'll drown me in their spittle."

He Lanhua, being the eldest, knew that being a stepmother was not easy, so she comforted her, saying, "Don't worry about what others say. Just live a good life. Besides, the child is still young. If you treat him well, he will know it."

"Thank you, Sister He. That's what I thought too. Tuanzi and I are so close. She can even call me 'Mom' now. I'll bring my child over to play another day," Lin Wanwan said with a smile.

"I think you have a good personality, you're always smiling," Qin Shufen said with a smile.

“I may look innocent, but I’m actually quite fierce. That Li Chunhua didn’t get away with it for long,” Lin Wanwan said with her usual smiling face.

Seeing that she didn't mind talking about these things, He Lanhua was about to ask something when she saw several aunties coming in while arguing.

"Xiao Lin, you can take a look first. These aunties are really fierce," He Lanhua said, pulling her along.

Lin Wanwan nodded obediently, then, remembering what Li Mei had just said, went to her desk to find a notebook and prepared to jot it down.

After a morning of work, Lin Wanwan found the work at the Women's Federation quite interesting, with different gossip to hear every day.

Lin Wanwan was sorting out the two minor disputes she had handled that morning. Organizing and filing files was a very simple task for the unit. In her previous life, Lin Wanwan had interned at a government unit and was quite adept at organizing and filing files.

"Xiao Lin, it's time to get off work. I just saw that your Battalion Commander Lu seems to be here," He Lanhua said with a smile.

Lin Wanwan looked up at the time; it was almost midnight. "Sister He, why haven't you left work yet?"

"I'm tidying up now. Director Li said we're moving offices in a few days."

"Let's go together then. I just arrived today, and I lost track of time while looking at the documents."

Lin Wanwan took her arm. "Let's go together. Sister He, where do you live?"
