Gu Bei's damn biological clock wakes him up precisely at six o'clock. Once awake, he doesn't plan to go back to sleep; he gets up, gets dressed, and goes for a run.
Gu Bei recognized the person ahead and quickened his pace to run over. Sure enough, it was Lu Feng. "Why are you up so early too? Getting up so early on your wedding day?"
"I'm used to it. You just got back yesterday, aren't you tired? Why are you running so early?"
"I'm used to it."
The two smiled at each other and ran forward side by side.
After running for about an hour, Lu Feng checked the time and asked him, "Do you want to come home for breakfast?"
"You'll do it?" Gu Bei looked at him in disbelief.
Lu Feng wasn't angry. He smiled and said, "Wanwan made the steamed buns and dumplings yesterday morning. They can just be steamed today. I'll just cook some porridge. I'm very good at that."
"That's fine. Is my little sister good at cooking? I've never tried it before."
"Great! Wanwan's cooking is especially delicious!"
The two went home together, and Lin Wanwan was already cooking in the kitchen.
Lu Feng quickly ran inside, "Don't do it, I'll do it, just make some porridge."
"It's okay, my wound isn't deep, and it doesn't hurt as much anymore. I just need to avoid getting it wet."
Lin Wanwan turned her head and saw Gu Bei, and immediately greeted him with a smile, "Good morning, brother."
Gu Bei felt refreshed after being called "brother" by her. "Hey, you calling me 'brother' really makes me feel refreshed."
"Wouldn't it make you feel better if I cooked you something delicious?"
Looking at her smiling face, Gu Bei was in a great mood. "Of course I will, but you have to be careful with your hands. Even if the wound isn't deep, you still need to be careful."
“I know, you’re just as long-winded as Lu Feng,” he said, turning to Lu Feng. “Get your brother some clothes, and go wash up too. We’ll have breakfast in a bit.”
Lu Feng was worried and turned back to tell her, "Be careful, don't get it wet. I'll wash the things that need washing right away."
"I know, you two are really long-winded."
Lin Wanwan plans to shred the potatoes and fry them into potato pancakes, make a cucumber salad with minced garlic, and steam the buns and dumplings she made yesterday.
After looking at it, Lin Wanwan still felt it wasn't enough, so she decided to make stir-fried green peppers and eggs as well. This morning, Lin Xiaohai really went to training with Wang Lin, and Lin Wanwan was afraid that he would come back like a starving ghost.
When Gu Bei came out of the shower, he was surprised to see the dishes on the table. "Wow, this is quite a feast!"
"There are three grown men in our family, so naturally we have to cook more, otherwise it won't be enough to eat."
"Where's Tuanzi? Is she still sleeping?"
Lin Wanwan pointed to the bedroom, "They should be up by now, go and carry them out."
Just as the meal was set out, Lin Xiaohai returned. "Sis, I'm so hungry, I could eat a whole cow!" He greeted Gu Bei on the sofa immediately. "Brother, why are you here so early?"
"After exercising with your brother-in-law, I came over to freeload breakfast."
Upon seeing Lu Feng emerge from the bathroom, Lin Xiaohai immediately greeted him obediently, "Good morning, brother-in-law. How did you guys exercise this morning?"
"Running laps around the family compound, hahaha."
Lu Feng rubbed his head and asked, "Are you tired this morning?"
"I'm not tired, brother-in-law."
After the group finished their meal, Gu Bei took Lin Wanwan to work. Lu Feng was supposed to come too, but Gu Changfeng had something come up and called him away.
"Thanks, bro, for giving me a ride to work."
"You said we're family, no need to be so polite. Lu Feng said you were studying for your exam?"
"Yes, I think the college entrance examination should be reinstated, and I'd like to give it a try."
"Take the entrance exam for Renmin University of China?"
"Lu Feng said that? Yes, I want to study law."
"This is a good job, and there's potential for future development."
"Ah, my brother has a good eye, but my goal isn't to become a lawyer."
"So what do you want to do? Take the exam for the judicial system? The Ministry of Public Security? My dad says you're quite suited for a career in government."
"Isn't there anything else we can do?"
Seeing that Gu Bei was about to ask another question, Lin Wanwan ran two steps forward and waved to him, "Bye-bye brother, I've arrived."
Lin Wanwan was injured and became a key person to protect in the office. "You should sit down. We heard about your heroic deeds on our way home from get off work yesterday. Aren't you afraid of getting caught?"
“I didn’t dare to think so much at the time. Although I hadn’t seen Xu’s mother for more than ten years, she was still as good to me as she was when I was a child. I couldn’t just stand by and watch her die. Sincerity begets sincerity.”
“That’s true. I’m so envious of all the cheongsams that Dean Xu collected for you. He’s really good to you,” Li Mei pulled her down to sit.
"I know, are you asking me for the charter? My dear sister, my hand is injured, but I only have a little bit left, I'll finish writing it right away."
Li Mei laughed and hit her, "Who asked you for it?"
"Sister He, Sister He, save me!" Lin Wanwan grabbed He Lanhua beside her and said with a smile.
"Everyone's here, let's have a meeting and discuss the new office."
The group nodded and followed her to the office. Lin Wanwan pulled Qin Shufen aside and asked, "Sister Shufen, your little jacket is so pretty, where did you buy it?"
Qin Shufen smiled and waved her hand, "I didn't buy it, I knitted it myself."
Lin Wanwan's eyes widened. "It's so beautiful! Did you knit it yourself? I want one too!"
"How shameless of you to ask people for things," Zhang Jing laughed at her.
"No, I didn't. I wanted Sister Shufen to teach me. It's so pretty!"
When the group arrived at the mediation room, Li Mei didn't waste any words. "We're moving offices soon. Do you have any good suggestions? Everyone, please share them. We should also discuss the division of labor and everyone's opinions. There's another matter: the higher-ups have asked us to submit our own reports on what the office needs, and they will approve them accordingly."
The group exchanged bewildered glances. He Lanhua then said directly, "How are we supposed to report it ourselves? It wouldn't be good to report too much or too little."
Everyone else nodded. Seeing their agreement, Li Mei shared her own plan, "I'm thinking of just ordering some basic office supplies. Is that alright with you?"
Seeing that the others were silent, Lin Wanwan couldn't help but say, "If we report more, the higher-ups will cut some of it off, and we'll still have enough. If we report less, they'll still cut some off, and then we'll be short of everything. It won't be convenient for us to get things done. We'll need to apply for more office desks and chairs, and maybe our department will have to send someone over."
Li Mei thought for a moment, "How much should we report? Too much might not be good, right?"
"Director, may I see the report?" Lin Wanwan asked her.
“Why not? You all take a look at each one and see if there’s anything I’ve missed. Everyone can add to it,” Li Mei said, taking out the list and placing it on the table.
Lin Wanwan glanced at the list in He Lanhua's hand. "There's too little paper. We also need pens and notebooks. We'll need them for organizing the files. This is far from enough. We need at least three times the amount you wrote. We can make do with the other things, but not this. I also suggest adding a tea mug, a thermos, a stove, and a kettle."
Qin Shufen nodded, "We might need a few more tea mugs. People often come to our office, and we need to pour them some water to calm them down."
