Chapter 61 Trouble Comes Knocking

"What's wrong?" Lin Wanwan asked her.

Qin Ziyi pulled the person away before whispering, "When I came to your house before, I saw you looking at high school textbooks. Do you have some inside information? Although my family isn't from Beijing, there are rumors in Shanghai that the college entrance examination is going to be reinstated. Do you know anything about that?"

Lin Wanwan smiled and said, "What could I possibly know? I'm just not satisfied, so I occasionally read books. What's wrong with that? What do you know?"

"You don't even know your family is from Beijing, so how could I possibly know? I was wondering if there was some news from your family."

Lin Wanwan thought for a moment and then said, "Since there are rumors, they can't be baseless, right? You want to go to university?"

"You're not spreading rumors, are you?" Qin Ziyi looked her up and down while holding Tuanzi.

"Fine, don't tell me then. We've known each other for so long, why are you still doubting me?" Lin Wanwan made a move to leave.

"Hey, don't go," Qin Ziyi whispered in her ear, "I want to take the exam, but I don't know if the news is true."

"Don't worry about whether it's true or not. Just buy the materials and keep an eye on it. If it doesn't recover this year, it will recover next year, sooner or later."

Qin Ziyi was silent for a while, then said, "You're right. I'll ask my parents to buy it for me. Tell me your documents and your name."

Lin Wanwan was about to nod when Qin Ziyi said, "Why don't you ask your brother to buy it for me in Beijing? Didn't your mother order a cheongsam for me before? Send it over together."

Lin Wanwan looked at her without saying anything. She was actually a little reluctant to agree, since buying books was too heavy to do now.

Seeing her hesitate, Qin Ziyi immediately pleaded, "Please help me, I'm begging you."

"Okay, I'll have my mom buy it. My brother is in school and might not have time."

"Thank you, thank you, thank you to our broadcaster Lin."

"Hey, I'm not a broadcaster anymore, be careful Director Zhang from the broadcasting station doesn't scold you."

"Let's go, I'll go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy some meat too. Let's go, let's go, while they're all watching the excitement, let's go buy more meat."

When Lin Wanwan arrived, there were still many ribs and meats. She bought eight ribs, three catties of pork belly, and two catties of pork shoulder.

Qin Ziyi clicked her tongue in amazement, "No wonder those people like to criticize you. The way you buy meat makes me envious."

"What are you so sour about, a rich young lady from Shanghai?"

Qin Ziyi was so angry that she wanted to hit her. "I hate it when people call me 'Miss' the most. You still call me that. I'll hit your son if you keep calling me that."

"Wow, how vicious! She actually used my son to threaten me," Lin Wanwan kissed Tuanzi. "You, Qin Yi, are really vicious. Let's not play with her anymore."

Qin Ziyi looked at the meat Lin Wanwan had bought on the ground and said, "Let's see how you carry all this back."

"You help me, isn't it great that I have you as free labor?"

"Wanwan, why haven't you come back for so long?" Xu Zhang called out to her from afar.

"Mom! I just finished shopping and I'm on my way back."

Qin Ziyi greeted Xu Zhang politely, "Hello, Dean Xu, I am Qin Ziyi."

"Oh, Ziyi, hello, hello, Wanwan has mentioned you before."

As soon as Tuanzi saw Xu Zhang, she tried to rush into her arms.

Upon seeing this, Xu Zhang quickly hugged and kissed him, saying, "My dear grandson."

"Then what am I to you?" Lin Wanwan hugged her and acted coquettishly.

“You are my good daughter. Without you, where would my good grandson come from?” Xu Zhangteng reached out and touched her little face.

Qin Ziyi stood to the side, her eyes wide with fear. Wasn't everyone saying that Dean Xu was very serious? This wasn't serious at all; she was clearly a loving mother.

“Let’s go, free labor,” Lin Wanwan said, patting Qin Ziyi on the shoulder.

"Mom, let's go to your house. I need to call my mom."

"Let's go, is it heavy? Or should I go find someone to help?"

"We should be able to manage, right?" Lin Wanwan looked at the things on the ground. "Laborer, is that alright?"

"I think it's okay," Qin Ziyi said, though she was a little uncertain.

The two followed Xu Zhang home carrying their purchases. Lin Wanwan threw the things on the ground and collapsed onto the sofa.

"I'm exhausted. Come sit down and rest. Mom, give me the child."

Xu Zhang placed the child next to her and said, "I'll make you some tea. Please have a seat."

Lin Wanwan immediately grabbed her, "No, no, no, you should rest too. We won't drink. Dumplings are just as good as meat."

"Ziyi, sit down, don't be shy."

Qin Ziyi sat down a little shyly, "Thank you, Dean Xu."

"Don't be so polite, sit down and rest. Thank you for today."

"It's alright, Dean Xu."

Lin Wanwan couldn't stand it anymore and said, "Oh, stop thanking me like that, it's tiring to watch."

Xu Zhang laughed and slapped her on the shoulder, "Don't talk nonsense."

"Then you can continue to thank me. I'll go make some tea in case you get thirsty."

Lin Wanwan brewed a pot of flower tea. "Have some tea, Xie must be tired."

Qin Ziyi was no longer as reserved as before. "How could I dare to let Miss pour me tea?"

Lin Wanwan immediately took away her cup, saying, "Then you shouldn't drink it. My mom and I will drink it."

After saying that, she actually sat down. Xu Zhang gently patted her and poured Qin Ziyi a cup of flower tea.

"Try it and see if you like it. Wanwan brought it from home. I like it, so she sent a lot over."

"Thank you, Aunt Xu."

"Oh, you're not calling me Dean Xu anymore? In the time it takes me to make tea, your relationship has progressed so rapidly?" Lin Wanwan joked.

The group chatted and laughed in a relaxed atmosphere when Lin Wanwan heard someone knocking on the courtyard gate. "Mom, is someone knocking? I'll go check."

Xu Zhang put down his teacup and looked towards the door. Qin Ziyi saw that it was getting late, finished her tea, stood up, and said goodbye to Xu Zhang.

"Wait, Ziyi, I see you like it, take a bag home with you," Xu Zhang said, taking a large bag of herbal tea from the drawer and placing it in her hand.

"Aunt Xu, you're too kind," Qin Ziyi said with a smile, looking at the flower tea in her hand.

"You're Wanwan's friend, so don't be shy about coming to our house. Here you go."

Qin Ziyi didn't refuse, smiled and thanked her, "Then I'll be going, Aunt Xu, I'll come again next time."

Carrying my things, I walked to the gate of the courtyard and saw Lin Wanwan frowning as she talked to a middle-aged man.

"how?"

"Is everything alright? Are you leaving?"

"Yeah, I'm going home to cook. You can come in now if you're free," she said, glancing warily at the middle-aged man in front of her.

"It's a misunderstanding. I am Zhang Zhiwei, the deputy director of the publicity department. I came to see Dean Xu today to discuss Comrade Lin's work. I didn't expect Comrade Lin to be here as well."

Lin Wanwan was not polite at all, "Why are you looking for Dean Xu about my work? Are you here to complain, or do you want Dean Xu to put pressure on me?"

Zhang Zhiwei was sweating profusely. He had indeed come to complain to Dean Xu and wanted Dean Xu to put pressure on Lin Wanwan.

Thinking that Lin Wanwan was easily swayed, she probably wouldn't really look down on such a good job as the radio station. Besides, she was young and easy to manipulate.

Zhang Zhiwei had a good plan, but he never expected to run into Lin Wanwan, who wouldn't even let him into her house.
