Chapter 64: Could it really buy several streets?

Lu Feng breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she was alright. He then blocked her from entering the room and slammed the door shut.

"Are you alright? Why are your eyes red? Did you cry?" Lu Feng lifted her chin and looked at her carefully.

Lin Wanwan thought he was incredibly handsome, so she leaned in and kissed him. "It's okay, I was just pretending to cry. How can I act pitiful if I don't cry? I'm the victim, so it's not too much to ask for some sympathy, right?"

Seeing that she was still in the mood to joke, Lu Feng hugged and kissed her. "It's good that you're alright. I was going to the hospital to pick up Tuanzi, but someone said that Zhang Zhiwei and Zhang Hongjun came to the house and caused trouble, so I rushed back immediately."

"Don't worry, I'm not a pushover, I won't let anyone bully me," Lin Wanwan said with a sly smile.

"Go pick up Tuanzi, he'll start making a fuss soon. Invite Mom and Uncle Gu over for dinner; don't bother cooking at home, I've already prepared it."

Lu Feng nodded, kissed her, and went out.

The incident at Lin Wanwan's doorstep quickly spread throughout the entire residential compound, and Peng Qingyang was summoned to Gu Changfeng's office and given a severe dressing-down.

Even Zhang Hongjun was transferred to another department, which caused quite a stir in the entire family compound. Lin Wanwan has not left the house for the past few days and has been studying and doing practice questions at home in peace.

According to Lin Wanwan's memories from her previous life, the time for announcing the resumption of the college entrance examination was approaching. She only remembered that it was in October, but she couldn't remember the exact date.

All she wants to do now is focus on her studies and college entrance exams, and she doesn't care at all about the rumors and gossip circulating outside.

While doing math problems, Lin Wanwan suddenly felt someone nibbling at her leg. She smiled and looked down at Tuanzi.

"Tuanzi, are you hungry? Why did you crawl over here by yourself?"

Lin Wanwan isn't at work now, and Tuanzi isn't going to the hospital with Xu Zhang either. Lin Wanwan is reading at home, and Tuanzi is crawling around on the floor.

Lin Wanwan smoothed the wooden planks, put them together, and placed them on the ground so that Tuanzi could crawl on them.

She picked up the little dumpling and kissed her, "How about Mommy makes you steamed eggs?"

Tuanzi's comments were meaningless. After checking the time, Lin Wanwan put the child in the crib in the living room and went to the kitchen to cook.

After steaming the rice and realizing there wasn't much food left at home, Lin Wanwan had no choice but to put Tuanzi in the stroller and prepare to push him to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy vegetables.

She didn't want to go out and become the center of gossip. Qin Ziyi would come back every two days to tell her about the outrageous rumors circulating in the compound, all of which were about her.

The latest rumor is that Lin Wanwan stopped going to the radio station because her maternal grandfather works in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has already found her a job, just waiting for her to return to work. It also says that her family background is very powerful, how amazing her parents are, and what her brother does.

Lin Wanwan was stunned when she heard this. Her family wasn't poor, but they weren't that well-off either; they were just an ordinary family.

Then there are rumors that Lu Feng's family is very rich, able to buy several streets, and they never have to worry about food or drink, so Lin Wanwan has so many beautiful cheongsams and she never has to worry about food or clothing.

Lin Wanwan believed it. That night, when they went to bed, she even asked Lu Feng how rich his family really was and whether they could really buy several streets. Lu Feng hugged her and laughed so hard he almost fell off the bed.

It wasn't until that night that Lin Wanwan learned that the Lu family's assets returned were mostly fixed assets. Only a portion of the jewelry and even some of the real estate were returned, including those in Beijing and Shanghai.

Lin Wanwan was stunned, feeling like she had really struck gold.

When I took Tuanzi out, the people in the family compound were indeed much more welcoming to her than before. Everyone who saw her came over to greet her.

Qin Ziyi saw Lin Wanwan pushing the child from afar. "How could you bear to go out like this? The legendary young lady."

Lin Wanwan glanced at her. "Do you want to die?"

"Hey, Miss is hitting someone! Come quick!"

"Stop joking, I'm going to buy groceries, we're out of vegetables at home," Lin Wanwan said, pushing Tuanzi forward without replying.

Before long, she ran into several military wives who had gotten along well with Lin Wanwan before, and they came over to chat with her.

"Xiao Lin, why don't you ever go out?"

"Oh dear, sister-in-law, you know I was fired from the broadcasting station. How can I possibly wander around the compound all day? It's so embarrassing."

"Oh, why do you care about those people? Besides, you broadcast so well before, listen to this now, what are you broadcasting?"

Just then, the radio was broadcasting the news. The speaker, speaking Mandarin with an accent, spoke at varying speeds and unclearly, making it difficult to understand two out of three sentences.

Lin Wanwan just smiled and didn't reply.

"Kobayashi, are you really not going back to the radio station?"

"I probably won't go back. I get off work from 9:30 in the morning until 9:00 at night, and I still have to take care of Tuanzi. There are still a lot of things to do at home."

"They get off work at nine? Don't they get off at six?"

"Really? I don't know. Director Zhang said before that we wouldn't get off work until 9 p.m., but maybe that's changed. I'm not really sure."

Lin Wanwan smiled innocently, her smile gentle, her voice soft. She wore a short-sleeved cheongsam and appeared knowledgeable, gentle, and generous.

"What Director Zhang? She's not Director Zhang anymore. She's been transferred to a pig farm to raise pigs."

“Raising pigs is a good thing. If we raise them well, we won’t lack pork to eat.”

Lin Wanwan smiled faintly, "Really? I didn't know. I haven't gone out these past few days. I've been too busy being angry and sad at home." She then shook her head helplessly.

"Sisters, I have to go now. I need to go buy groceries; we're out of food at home."

When the others saw that she was about to leave, they wanted to persuade her to stay, but they didn't know what to say.

Lin Wanwan knew they wanted to gossip with her, so she said, "Sisters, let's chat again tomorrow. I'm going to go buy some groceries now."
