Chapter 71 Enemies Meet on a Narrow Road

Xu Zhang felt disgusted when he saw that she looked like she was about to cry.

Logically speaking, Xu Tiantian is quite good-looking; she would be considered a beauty even in a crowd.

I don't know who he learned this pretentious attitude from, it's disgusting to look at.

After watching her performance, Xu Zhang shook off her hand, patted his arm as if to slap away something that might rise up.

"You're just a young girl, I don't know where you learned this mannerism from, so affected and petty."

Qin Qing quickly stepped forward with a smile, seemingly to comfort Xu Tiantian, and patted her on the back.

She said with a smile, "Auntie, the child just misses her grandparents too much. Her parents even disowned their son for your sake, and they don't want their grandchildren anymore. Let's put an end to the grudges of our previous generation. The children don't know anything about this!"

Just as Xu Zhang was about to curse, He Yumei grabbed him and said, "Yes, my sister wanted to put an end to the grudges of the previous generation, but how did you all act as uncle and aunt?"

He Yumei looked at the crowd gathered around her and said loudly, "Your son got that girl pregnant, and now you want my godson to clean up your mess."

"Your son injured someone outside, and you want my godson to apologize to them? Is this how you uncles and aunts treat people? Do you think people are stupid? Anyone who doesn't know better would think my godson did something wrong. Is this how you put the past behind you?"

Before Qin Qing could speak, He Yumei raised her voice and interrupted, "It's one thing for you parents to do such awful things, but your son is like this too. It's because you yourselves are so uncultured and ill-mannered that you haven't even raised your child properly. Look at your good child, who has learned to distort the truth in public and speak ill of his aunt."

The onlookers pointed at the mother and daughter and started whispering among themselves.

"Her aunt, is there some misunderstanding?"

Xu Zhang sneered, "Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding? The misunderstanding is that your husband replaced his application form for going to the countryside with mine? The misunderstanding is that he hid my letters to the family for help for ten years?"

"You two, mother and daughter, stop putting on an act in front of me. It disgusts me," he said, glancing at Qin Qing with barely concealed weariness in his eyes.

"You two haven't been having a good time lately, have you? Luckily, you didn't ruin your parents' reputation. If you're going to die, go somewhere far away and don't come here to harm our family."

After Xu Zhang finished speaking, he pulled He Yumei and Song Lanzhi upstairs, and only stopped when they got upstairs.

"What bad luck! I came out shopping happily, and then I ran into that mother and daughter. What a twist of fate."

He Yumei smiled and comforted her, "Did you vent your anger?"

"Yeah, I've wanted to scold her for a long time. Her whole family is no good; they do disgusting things all the time."

Song Lanzhi only knew a little about the inside story and not the details. She smiled and took her arm, saying, "We're out having fun, so let's not let those unworthy people spoil the mood."

"I thought you were going to put on a show of family harmony again. Have you finally come to your senses? Or are you completely heartbroken?"

"Gu Bei's matter has completely broken my heart. Wanwan is right. Rather than compromising ourselves for temporary harmony, we should be more assertive and fight for lasting peace."

"Don't trust her too much. What could a little girl like her know?"

Xu Zhang led them to a counter selling small leather bags. "Hey, let me see that small leather bag, and also that bigger one."

Seeing that they were dressed smartly and elegantly, with an air of sophistication that set them apart from ordinary people, the sales clerk enthusiastically brought over two bags for Xu Zhang to see, and even brought out a few more bags that she thought were nice for him to look at.

As Xu Zhang looked at the bag, he turned to He Yumei and said, "Wanwan is right. I don't even understand life as well as a young girl."

"What do you mean, she's just a spoiled little girl who does things recklessly."

"She's very good. You don't know how long she's been gone. She's reliable in her work and speaks and acts like a completely different person than a young girl."

Song Lanzhi nodded in agreement, "Wanwan is very good. She is steady and composed in her speech and actions."

"Hey, hearing you all praise her like that makes me feel relieved."

"How about this Wanwan?" Xu Zhang asked, holding the small bag.

"Why buy her a bag? She has several already, and Lanzhi bought her several too."

"That was bought by Lanzhi, but this is what I bought as a token of my affection," she said, glancing at the two bags.

"Let's wrap them up, no more hesitation, I'll take both."

"Don't spoil her too much. She's a grown woman, yet she acts like a little child."

"It's okay, we're here for you. She doesn't need to rush to grow up."

Song Lanzhi smiled and said, "Wanwan is so well-behaved and sensible, and she has such a sweet tongue when she tries to coax people. You've taught her very well."

"Oh dear, you two praising her is the same as praising me. She's my good daughter."

The three of them stopped at a tailor shop to make cheongsams along the way. When they were on their way home, it was almost midnight. They passed by a place that sold roast duck and bought some.

Song Lanzhi ordered ten cheongsams for Lin Wanwan in one go, and He Yumei couldn't stop her no matter what she did.

"It's getting cold soon, so she needs to wear a thicker cheongsam. She doesn't have any to wear in winter yet."

When the three of them returned home with their bags full of things, it was already 12:30.

Lin Wanwan was nestled in Lu Feng's arms, playing with Tuanzi. Hearing them return, Lin Wanwan immediately ran out and said, "My moms, you're finally back! I was starving!"

"Silly child, if you're hungry, just eat first. Why do you have to wait for us?"

Song Lanzhi stepped forward to take the dumpling and told the aunt to hurry up and set out the food.

"Mom, you bought way too much."

He Yumei held her hand and said, "Your mother-in-law and your mother-in-law bought you a lot, but I only bought some for myself and didn't buy any for you."

"Wow, Mom, I'm going to protest!"

"Stop protesting, hurry up and eat."

At the dinner table, Xu Zhang mentioned that he had encountered Xu Tiantian and her daughter at the mall. Lin Wanwan sneered, "I should have gone with them. You see, I gave them both a good slap in the face."

"How dare you talk like that?" He Yumei glared at her.

"Then how can I say that? They're bullying my godmother."

After meeting Xu's maternal grandparents last time, Lin Wanwan formally offered tea to Xu Zhang and recognized Gu Changfeng as her godmother and godfather, respectively.

"So what? Are you going to go up and fight someone?"

"Fighting is out of the question, but showing off is no problem. Being able to infuriate people without consequence is also an art."

The group laughed at her antics, but He Yumei said irritably, "Don't be so reckless. You never know who you might offend."

"I may be quick-witted, but I'm not brainless, I know that."

Xu Zhang asked her, "How's your review going? Don't put too much pressure on yourself, just do your best."

"I know, godmother. I will work hard. I still have to be my grandfather's successor."

After finishing their meal, the group sat in the living room chatting. Lin Wanwan didn't go back to her room to read; instead, she sat quietly in the living room, keeping the three company.

Lin Wanwan never expected that Yin Meiyue would be so shameless. It was bad enough that she had to embarrass herself at the Lu family's home, but this time she even dared to bring her mother along to embarrass herself.
