Chapter 91 Preparing for the College Entrance Examination

Bai Ying nodded at her, took the script in her hand and went into the broadcasting room. With less than ten minutes left, Bai Ying continued to familiarize herself with the script.

Looking at Bai Ying in the broadcasting room, Lin Wanwan felt a sense of pride, like a daughter growing up.

They were selected to work in the broadcasting room. Their Mandarin was up to standard, but many of their pronunciations were not standard. Bai Ying secretly practiced her pronunciation.

She was there every day when Lin Wanwan came to the radio station in the evenings. Sometimes she would write scripts, sometimes she would practice her pronunciation, and she would also take the initiative to ask Lin Wanwan for advice.

When Bai Ying came out, Lin Wanwan was still somewhat lost in thought.

"What's wrong? Did I do something wrong? Did I pronounce it incorrectly?"

Lin Wanwan snapped out of her reverie and smiled. "No, I was just thinking that you've improved really quickly. Your broadcast was pretty good; there were some issues, but they were minor."

When the two returned to the office, Li Changru was still inside.

Lin Wanwan ignored her, packed up the manuscript and locked it in the drawer, intending to go home with Bai Ying.

"Director, can I talk to you?" He glanced at Bai Ying after saying that.

"What are you talking about? Just say it here. It's so cold outside, do you expect her to wait outside?"

Li Changru's face flushed red and then paled, and she stammered, "Director, Bai Ying can already make the broadcast, could you consider me?"

Lin Wanwan was so angry she laughed. "What do you mean she can broadcast it now?"

“When we came in, we all had to take a Mandarin test. She had the worst score, but she could still broadcast on the radio. So why can’t we?”

"She may not have been as outstanding as you when she first joined, but she worked harder than any of you and devoted more time to it than any of you. Why can't it be her? She is better than you now. Is it so hard to admit that someone is better than you?"

Lin Wanwan looked her up and down with disdain. She didn't look down on anyone, but she looked down on people who wanted something but didn't want to work hard for it, who saw others working hard but didn't acknowledge their excellence and even belittled them.

Li Changru's face turned pale. "I...I didn't mean it. I tried my best, I just..."

“Li Changru, I give you all the same tasks every day. Bai Ying writes at least three articles for me every day. This afternoon, she helped me with the broadcast and submitted two articles to me. There are others like Tan Hai who write four articles for me every day. They have all worked hard. Now tell me, have you worked hard?”

Lin Wanwan noticed her interesting expression, ignored her, and tidied up the manuscript she had submitted, preparing to take it home to read.

"Let's go back."

Bai Ying took the things from her hands, "Let me help you carry them."

"Let's go, I'm exhausted every day. Not only do I have to teach them how to write, but I also have to correct their values."

Li Changru's eyes reddened as she listened to their words, and she bit her lip to hold back her tears.

"Come stay at my place tonight. I'll read the manuscript, and you can practice your pronunciation."

"Will this disturb you and Battalion Commander Lu?"

"It's okay. You're not going to live in my house from now on. What's the problem? Are you going to move in with me?"

Bai Ying smiled and nodded, "Okay!"

When the two returned home, Gu Changfeng and the other two were still drinking. When they saw them come back, they all turned their heads to look at them.

Lin Wanwan asked with a smile, "Where's my mom? Why are you still drinking? I'm going to tell on you."

"You're done drinking? Who taught you to tattle?"

Lin Wanwan said with a smile, "I learned it from my mom. She always tells my grandma about me."

Xu Zhang came out of the kitchen and slapped her on the back of the head.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Did I say something wrong? I'm just telling the truth."

Everyone laughed, and Lin Wanwan stepped forward and took her arm, saying, "Let me bring Bai Ying home as your daughter too; she'll stay at my house tonight."

Xu Zhang affectionately cupped her face and patted it, "Okay, then I'll only pamper her from now on."

"No way, I'm the most spoiled person in my family, otherwise I'll make a scene."

Lin Wanwan and Bai Ying were busy in the bedroom, while Gu Changfeng and the others chatted outside.

After finishing reading the manuscript, he stretched and said, "Ah, I'm exhausted, it's already 10:30." He turned to look at Bai Ying and asked, "How's the practice going?"

"Hmm, would you like to hear it?"

"Sure, you can read it first."

Lin Wanwan didn't point out her mistakes on the evening broadcast; she just told her to figure it out herself.

After Bai Ying finished reading, Lin Wanwan nodded, "It was better than the one on the evening broadcast. It seems you know where your problem lies."

"I was a little nervous tonight, I'll be more careful next time."

“You’ve already done very well on your first day of broadcasting,” Lin Wanwan asked her after thinking for a moment.

"Do you want to take the college entrance exam? If you get accepted and come to Beijing, you can hang out with me again. Besides, don't you like broadcasting? Don't you want to go to Beijing to study it?"

"But I'm afraid I'm not good enough. So many people are taking the exam, what if I fail?"

Lin Wanwan sighed, "You haven't even taken the exam yet, how can you say you can't do it? From now on, every morning when you get up, you should look in the mirror and say 'I'm great, I can do it' ten times. Why do you have so many worries? You're only twenty years old. Who cares if you can pass the exam or not? Just take the exam and we'll see."

Bai Ying looked at Lin Wanwan's face, "Can I really do it?"

"Do you want to learn?"

"I want to learn, and I also want to go to the capital to find you."

"Then give it a try. I'll give you all my books and notes. You can start studying tomorrow and prepare for next year's exam."

Lin Wanwan immediately stood up to find books, and Bai Ying was stunned when she saw so many books.

"This...so much?"

"Otherwise what? There are a lot of practice questions in there. I don't like writing directly in the book, I write them in a notebook. So those practice books are all new. You can take a look first. I'll call my mom tomorrow and ask her to buy some materials for you and send them over."
