Today is the 29th of the twelfth lunar month, and tomorrow is New Year's Eve. The two of them have been eating at Xu Zhang's place for the past few days, and it feels like the snow is getting heavier and heavier, reaching up to their calves.
Lin Wanwan was panting heavily as she walked from her home to Xu Zhang's place.
He lay motionless on the sofa.
Xu Zhang touched her little face and said with a pained expression, "Look how cold you are, your face is all red from the cold."
"It's so much colder than a few days ago," Lin Wanwan said, her voice trembling.
"Why don't you and Lu Feng move in here for the next few days to avoid having to travel back and forth?"
Lin Wanwan thought for a moment and then went to look at Lu Feng.
Lu Feng chuckled and said, "Why are you looking at me like that? If you want to stay here, then we'll stay here for now. If you keep running back and forth and get cold, everyone will feel sorry for you."
Having decided to move in, Lu Feng didn't delay and went home to pack all his household items.
Xu Zhang pulled Lin Wanwan aside and said, "Since you have a few days off, you should stay home and keep us company."
"Mom, I want to eat pig's trotters," Lin Wanwan said, hugging her affectionately.
Xu Zhang patted her face and said, "Invite the Bai siblings to dinner tonight, so you sisters can get together too."
"Mom, you're not really going to adopt Bai Ying as your daughter, are you?" Lin Wanwan hugged her tightly.
"I disagree! I'm going to make a scene and get angry!"
Xu Zhang poked her puffed-up cheek. "You said before that you would bring Bai Ying back to be my daughter."
“I’ve changed my mind. You’ve adopted her as your daughter, but you can’t be biased. I’m your favorite little daughter.”
"Hahahaha," Gu Changfeng laughed uncontrollably at her coquettishness, "How could your mother bear to see you suffer?"
Xu Zhang pinched her cheek. "Stop acting cute. Let go of me. I'm going to cook. I didn't want to eat pig's trotters."
The Bai siblings arrived right after we finished lunch.
"Wanwan, I brought you something delicious."
Lin Wanwan turned to look at her, "Come on, I've prepared a gift for you, come and see."
"Here you go, Uncle Qin sent it to me, I brought some for you."
"Uncle Qin?"
"Yes, he's Dad's comrade-in-arms."
Lin Wanwan looked up at Gu Changfeng, "It's that Uncle Qin you know, the one in Beijing."
Lin Wanwan nodded. "The earth is round, so it seems we all know each other. Why is Uncle Qin so biased? He didn't even send me anything. Even if Bai Ying is pretty, he doesn't have to be so biased. I'll call him in a bit."
"Do you know Uncle Qin too?" Bai Ying asked, taking her hand.
“I know him. When I was little, he used to tease me so much that I would cry. He even wanted to steal me and take me home to be his daughter.”
Bai Ying smiled and said, "Uncle Qin is like a playful old man; he always bickers with my brother."
Lin Wanwan peeled a chocolate and popped it into her mouth. Bai Ying looked at her expectantly, "Is it good?"
"It's delicious, very sweet."
Lin Wanwan shoved the wrapped gift into her hands. "Here you go. Take a look. I even wrapped it myself. Isn't it beautiful? I even drew the design on the paper myself."
“It’s so beautiful, I don’t want to tear it down,” Bai Ying said, her eyes sparkling as she looked at her.
"Hurry up and take it apart, I've been preparing for this for a long time."
Bai Ying opened it and saw that it was a bright red sweater with a large white Peter Pan collar. The sweater itself was red and had several small white flowers knitted on it.
The scarf was also a combination of white and red, and Lin Wanwan had knitted it very delicately and beautifully.
"It's so beautiful, did you knit it yourself?"
"Well, me, my mom, and you, the three of us have similar styles, and the other three have similar styles too."
Lin Wanwan took out a red sweater and handed it to her, saying, "This is your brother's."
The designs are noticeably simpler, and there's no attractive packaging.
Bai Qi, who was chatting with Gu Changfeng, smiled and said, "And there's mine too."
Lin Wanwan leaned against Bai Ying and said lazily, "I have them all. I only knitted them for you because of Bai Ying."
"Then thank you, little sister," Bai Qi said with a slight smile.
"No need to thank me, it's all because of Bai Ying."
She nudged Bai Ying and said, "Go try it on and see if you can wear it. Look, I'm wearing a red sweater too. Let's wear matching ones."
Bai Ying said with a smile, "Yours and Brother Lu's are the same style."
Lin Wanwan blushed and said, "We're husband and wife, so of course we have to have matching items."
Bai Ying came out wearing a sweater. "Does it look good?"
"It looks great, it makes you look even fairer," Xu Zhang said with a smile. "It's just right, Wanwan's skills are really good."
"Bai Ying is so pretty, so fair and beautiful."
Bai Ying sat down next to her with a flushed face, "You're very pretty too."
Lin Wanwan leaned against her and yawned, "I'm so tired. I haven't done anything all day, but I'm exhausted."
"Have you been working overtime? Do you want to take a nap?"
"Sure, let me lean against you for a bit. I brought a book, do you want to read it?"
"What book?"
"Sanmao's, do you want to take a look?"
"Look," Bai Ying said, taking the book. "Go to sleep, or you'll catch a cold."
Xu Zhang took a blanket and covered her with it. "No, don't worry about her. Let her sleep by herself. She's been like this lately, like a little lazybones. She doesn't go to bed and has to sleep next to someone."
Bai Ying nodded, indicating that she knew. "This blanket is really beautiful. Did Wanwan knit it herself?"
"Yes, she said before that she had handed over all the work to you guys, and since she had nothing to do, she knitted a lot of sweaters, scarves, and this blanket herself, and even sent the sweaters to the capital."
Lin Wanwan leaned against Bai Ying, listening to Gu Changfeng and the others chatting, and soon fell asleep.
Xu Zhang seemed to remember something and turned to ask Lu Feng, "Is she like this at home too? Always sleeping?"
Lu Feng thought for a moment, "Yes, it started at the end of last month. It's been like this ever since the heavy snow. She's been dozing off all day, so lazy. I even joked that she must be hibernating. Mom, what's wrong?"
Are there any other symptoms?
Lu Feng thought for a moment, "There are no other symptoms, it's just that I've been craving sweet, spicy, and meat lately. Yesterday I even said I've gained weight and need to lose weight because I have fat on my stomach."
Seeing Xu Zhang frowning, Lu Feng also became worried, "Mom, what happened?"
"It's nothing, just a minor issue. We'll have to check it out to find out," Xu Zhang said with a smile when he saw the change in Xu Zhang's expression. "Don't worry, I'm here. What's there to be afraid of? It's nothing serious, so relax."
Seeing Xu Zhang's reaction, Lu Feng was still uneasy. "Are you really alright?"
Xu Zhang waved his hand, "Even if something happens, it's still good news. If nothing happens, let's get it checked first."
Gu Changfeng seemed to have guessed something, and leaned back on the sofa with a smile, saying, "Let's go for a check-up first thing tomorrow morning."
Xu Zhang nodded. "I'll go to the kitchen and make more of her favorite dishes. She eats little at lunch; she must be trying to lose weight."
Lu Feng still frowned as he watched Xu Zhang's retreating figure.
Gu Changfeng patted him on the shoulder, "What are you afraid of? Your mother is a hospital director, would she lie to you?"
Lu Feng nodded, glanced at the sleeping Lin Wanwan, and figured that since she could eat and sleep well, she must be alright.
