Lu Feng, who was in a bad mood, was amused by him. "Then you'd better grow stronger so you can protect your sister. That uncle with the knife today could have knocked you down with just one hand."
"Don't look down on me. I'll train with Wang Lin every day from now on. I'll be really good in no time."
"Okay, if you can hold out until you get home, I'll agree to buy you the radio you want."
"Really?" Lin Xiaohai's face lit up with joy; he had wanted that tape recorder for a long time.
"When have I ever lied to you? If I say I'll buy it for you, I will, as long as you can stick to it."
"What about my homework? Sis, could you lighten it a bit?" Lin Xiaohai asked with a fawning smile.
“The troops start their field training at six o’clock. You usually don’t get up until eight o’clock. After breakfast, you still want to play for a while. You won’t be able to study until at least nine o’clock. Does that affect your study?” Lin Wanwan glanced at him sideways.
Lin Xiaohai sighed, "Sis, are you trying to kill me with exhaustion?"
"How can you say you're exhausted? Your brother-in-law reads in his spare time while he's working, didn't you see? He's on his honeymoon and he's still not idle. If he can do it, why can't you? Tell me, what are you lacking?"
"Sister, the difference is not just a little bit," Lin Xiaohai said ingratiatingly as he massaged her shoulders.
Lu Feng didn't say anything and just sat there reading. He only smiled when he heard his wife praising him.
"Then you should try your best to close the gap. Don't try to negotiate with me. This is an extra question. You can do it if you want, or not if you don't. If you don't do it, there will be no reward," Lin Wanwan said firmly.
Lin Xiaohai's eyes darted around, wanting to continue negotiating, but Lin Wanwan interrupted him, "Don't keep trying to negotiate with me. You don't have any advantages right now, and it's questionable whether you can even persevere. If you can, then we can talk."
"Go wash up quickly, change your clothes, and go to Uncle Gu's place. Brother Gu Bei is back."
Lin Xiaohai glanced at Sister Zi, then at Lu Feng, and decided to disappear immediately without asking any questions.
After watching him go into the bathroom to shower, Lu Feng asked, "Why did you agree to let him go to the army for training? It's very tough, and there's a chance he might get injured."
Lin Wanwan glanced at him, took a sip of her flower tea, and then explained, "He's a boy, so what if he suffers a little hardship and gets hurt? Are you saying my parents and I will protect him for the rest of our lives, and then have his wife protect him for the rest of his life after he gets married? What kind of family is that unlucky? Just thinking about it makes me feel unlucky. If he grows up to be a useless person, I'll make sure he stays single for life and doesn't go around messing with girls."
Lu Feng couldn't help but laugh out loud, "I thought you would be reluctant to part with it."
“He is my brother, and I would naturally be heartbroken if he got hurt, but I can’t just harm him under the guise of doing what’s best for him.”
Lin Wanwan paused and then said, "Why do you think he's so honest? I threatened him that if he didn't study, I would send him to the Northwest to join the army. My dad has comrades there. I knew what he was up to the moment he looked at me. He just wanted to fool me and get a tattoo. I told him directly that if he dared to get a tattoo, I would take a dagger and cut his flesh. I went to the hospital entrance, cut him, and went straight to the doctor. I wasn't worried about any danger to his life."
"Really? Are you bluffing him or is it for real?" Lu Feng hadn't expected this turn of events.
“Do you think I would joke? My dad gave me a dagger, the one you saw a few days ago. When I was 16, I was bullied by some thugs on my way home from school. Li Jun saved me back then. Otherwise, why do you think I keep hanging around him?”
“Those thugs harassed me for almost a month and stole my pocket money every day. I couldn’t take it anymore, so one day I ran home crying and told my dad. My dad gave me a dagger, which was very sharp and later saved my life.”
"What's going on?" Lu Feng asked, frowning.
Lin Wanwan teased him, "Didn't you find anything when you investigated me before?"
Lu Feng turned his head and saw her teasing expression, but he wasn't guilty at all. "I didn't find anything. Dad is much more capable than me. How could I possibly find everything?"
"Not long after my dad gave me the dagger, I scared away a group of thugs because I injured one of them. Then one day I came home late, and a drunk man tried to rape me. I used the dagger to cut off his nose, and blood sprayed all over my face. I was so scared that I had a high fever for five days and couldn't wake up."
Lu Feng felt a vein throb on his forehead, and asked with a dark expression, "Who was it? Do you remember?"
Lin Wanwan smiled and said, "I don't know. After I woke up, my parents had already dealt with the matter. Then my personality changed drastically, and I became very rebellious. Now that I think about it, I was probably scared. I was robbed and almost raped. I probably thought that as long as I was fierce, no one would dare to mess with me."
"But do you know that the people in that alley shake their heads when they hear your name? Don't you care?" Lu Feng asked, putting his arm around her.
“What do I care? I don’t care what others say about me. Most of the things about me are spread by that old lady next door, Aunt He. She’s the one who tried to introduce her daughter to you last time.”
Why would she say bad things about you?
"Why else? Because we live next door to them. A family of four lives in a two-courtyard house, while their family of eight can only live in three rooms. Because my father is more capable than her two sons, and because I am prettier than her daughter, they want to ruin my reputation."
Lin Wanwan shrugged and looked at him. "Do you think I care what others say about me? My principle is that they can talk about me, but they can't disturb my family's life. They just spread rumors about me and never dare to say anything in front of my parents. At most, they might make sarcastic remarks about my mother. My mother is not someone to be trifled with. She will settle a score on the spot. Besides, my mother is a very stable person. If they say it a few more times and see that my mother doesn't react, they won't bother to make a fool of themselves."
