Chapter 314 A Devastating Price

Wei Ran dared not speak again.

She sat there blankly, her eyes always fixed on Lu Zhaolin.

And so it went until the banquet ended.

After leaving the room.

She waited early at the place Lu Zhaolin was bound to pass by.

Wei Ran quickly pulled him behind a tree, avoiding everyone's gaze.

Lu Zhaolin's eyes darkened: "What exactly do you want to do?"

"Lu Zhaolin, I beg you." Wei Ran's eyes were filled with tears: "Everything that happened before was my fault. I don't ask you to forgive me."

"What else is there to say?" Lu Zhaolin frowned deeply.

"I beg you, just say you love me, and you can save me and my mother. You are such a kind person, you wouldn't just stand by and watch innocent people die, would you?" Wei Ran said with a hint of pleading.

"Heh." Lu Zhaolin sneered, "It's true that fortunes change. Although I never said such things to you back then, I so desperately hoped that you would say you liked me. If you had just said you liked me back then, you could have spared me and my family from all punishment. If you had just said you liked me back then, the Emperor could have not only granted us a marriage but also spared me from all imprisonment."

Wei Ran's face turned deathly pale at a rapid pace, and she staggered back a step.

"Wake up. Since you've chosen to change your name and I've also been on the verge of death, we're no longer who we used to be. If I didn't care about our past relationship, I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to stand here and talk to me right now."

Before Lu Zhaolin could finish speaking, a rustling sound came from afar.

Lu Zhaolin turned his head and looked in the direction of the voice. He said with a hint of warning, "You chose this path yourself. You're not a child anymore. Since you've made this choice, you must also accept the consequences. I'm warning you one last time: if you dare to touch anyone around me, I will make you pay a heavy price."

Lu Zhaolin took two steps, then turned back and added, "Not only me, but Lu Zhaofeng will definitely do the same."

Wei Ran's breath hitched, and she suddenly felt as if ants were gnawing at her whole body.

She braced herself against the tree behind her with one hand, her forehead covered in a fine layer of sweat.

She wandered around the familiar yet unfamiliar palace for a long time before reluctantly heading to the post station.

I just pushed open the door to my room at the inn.

"Slap!" A loud slap.

Wei Ran hadn't yet realized what had happened.

My vision went black, and a burning pain shot through my cheeks.

"Damn it, I'm warning you, don't you dare try anything funny, or I'll kill you!" Wei Ziyi said viciously.

“Your Highness, that Lu Zhaolin, he…” Wei Ran covered her burning cheek with one hand, feeling as if she had been slapped so hard that her vision went black.

Wei Ziyi didn't give her a chance to finish speaking before slapping her hard across the other half of her face again: "Don't try anything funny. Don't think I don't know you still have feelings for your ex. I'm warning you, don't forget why we're here."

He left those words behind.

Wei Ziyi walked outside without looking back.

Tears streamed down Wei Ran's face, and finally she couldn't hold back any longer and collapsed onto the bed, sobbing uncontrollably.

Scenes from my past with Lu Zhaolin flashed through my mind.
