Chapter 106 Role Assignment

After everyone drew their group numbers, they went back to their respective locations to film their own videos.

Ming Jiayi followed the director, screenwriter, and the remaining four actors to the conference room, while the younger generation of actors went to the assembly room to wait for the assignment results.

"Have all five of you screenwriters finished writing your scripts?" the show's director asked.

"It's written. My story is a family story, and everyone's role is fairly even, but there will still be some people with more screen time and some with less," said the screenwriter from Group 5.

"Okay, what about you guys?" the director asked.

The screenwriters from the other groups nodded in agreement, saying, "It's finished."

"Okay, the director of Group 3, keep an eye on Gu Shaonan. If he insists on adding scenes or is particularly dissatisfied with the script, just tell me directly, and I will call and inform President Gu," the director said seriously.

"Director, did Mr. Gu invest in us because of Gu Shaonan?"

The three screenwriters looked at the director and asked, but after a while, her gaze shifted to Ming Jiayi.

Ming Jiayi frowned in confusion.

Why are you looking at me...?

It couldn't be because of me.

Seeing the screenwriter's burning gaze, Bai Li quickly spoke up before the director could.

"Of course it's because of Gu Shaonan. I overheard President Gu calling Gu Shaonan yesterday. The two brothers have a very good relationship; I'm so envious."

"That must be it. Mr. Gu suddenly called me last night saying he wanted to invest, but I'm not entirely sure why he wants to invest," the director said seriously.

"Director, you didn't receive the call around nine o'clock, did you?" Bai Li asked the chief director with a half-smile.

"Yes, how did you know?"

Bai Li: "..." Sure enough, he had just left Gu Shaojin's office at that time.

Gu Shaojin is really quick with her hands and thinks a lot.

But he won't help Gu Shaojin find a husband.

"No, I had a small get-together with President Gu last night. I mentioned to him that Shao Nan was going to participate in this program. I didn't expect him to act so quickly and invest immediately."

"Oh, is that so? Thank you so much. You've indirectly helped us secure a large investment," said the director of Group 5 with a smile.

Bai Li smiled politely, but a sly glint flashed in his eyes.

"No, I just said it casually. It was mainly because of Gu Shaonan that President Gu was being considerate. It has nothing to do with me."

"Well, that does have some connection. Thank you so much."

The chief director agreed, then immediately turned the conversation back to work.

"Okay, now, the three of you in each group will have a short meeting to assign roles to the ten people and try to finish filming in one day tomorrow, so that the editor has more time, okay?"

The screenwriter looked at the script with a somewhat troubled expression and said...

"Director, this might be a bit difficult. The roles of all eleven characters are roughly the same, and each character's backstory and story are complete. It's simply impossible to film them all in one day."

“Yeah, if each person has an estimated two minutes of screen time, the total video would be 22 minutes. It would take more than a day to film, maybe even two days.” The director of Group 2 said with a smirk.

"Anyway, you only have a day and a half at most. You can figure it out yourselves. I won't say any more now. Hurry up and assign tasks and get ready to start filming," the director urged.

Immediately, the 15 people split into five groups, each finding a small corner to assign roles.

"Director Jiayi, please take a look at the script first. It's really too difficult to write a short film of just over 20 minutes that can encompass the stories of eleven people."

So I divided it into three short stories, which were then combined into one big story, with each short story starring 3, 4, or 4 people. The male-to-female ratio in our group was just right, which was perfect for this story.

The group of three tells the story of a love triangle during their school days, while the first part, the group of four, tells the story of the three of them after they grew up, and the extra person in the love triangle also found his own spring.

The second part, which features four people, tells the story of the four characters' children's love during their school days.

What I want to emphasize throughout this story is that love will always exist, whether it's the older generation or the present day, and I want to encourage young people to bravely love and believe in love.

The screenwriter introduced Ming Jiayi and the director in a series of ways.

Ming Jiayi glanced at the screenwriter, then continued flipping through the script. "So, what role will I be playing?"

"I think you'd be a good match for the girlfriend of the guy who's the extra person in the love triangle in the first part of the four-person group," the screenwriter said seriously, adjusting his glasses.

“Okay.” Ming Jiayi readily nodded in agreement.

The girlfriend's lines were all so sassy and teasy, which really suited her.

She's a professional.

“Wait a minute, I don’t think she’s suitable for this role,” the director said. “This character is somewhat jealous and scheming, and it’s not difficult to play her well, so we can’t give it to Jiayi.”

"No, it's the director. It's precisely because she's jealous and scheming that she's difficult to portray, that kind of forbearance, the feeling of being wronged, and the hatred she harbors for another girl."

The screenwriter, with a heart-wrenching performance, said...

“These details are very difficult to control, and the new generation of actors may not be able to express them.”

"I think the female roles in this trio are more suitable for Jiayi. She is cheerful, lively, humorous, and likable, which is more difficult to portray."

At this moment, Ming Jiayi turned to the last page of the script. She had read all the characters' lines, and she had also memorized the lines that the two of them had just discussed.

"Screenwriter, director, how about I act out a scene for you to see?" Ming Jiayi said with a smile.

"OK."

"I'll go first with the group of four," Ming Jiayi said, then closed her eyes.

About five seconds later, tears streamed from the corners of her eyes, her nose felt sore, and her complexion was somewhat dull but she still maintained her composure.

"Li Yicheng,"

Ming Jiayi (Mili) cried out sadly; it was the name of the man she loved. Then, in a choked voice, she said...

"So what if I did it? What was my motive? Wasn't it for the child in my womb?"

Mili paused for a moment, waiting for Li Yicheng to speak, but she didn't hear him.

She gave a self-deprecating laugh, then gently placed her hand over her eyes, a laugh both mocking and sorrowful, before speaking with difficulty, word by word...

"Hmph, hahahahaha, from the first moment I saw Qin Yiran, I knew I had lost. But I was determined to try..."

Ming Jiayi gently wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, then looked at the director and screenwriter with red eyes.

The people in the meeting, the photographer, and the five scriptwriters and directors all stared blankly at Ming Jiayi. Then, the five directors immediately reacted and were the first to applaud, "Bravo!"
