"Oh dear, you two should discuss this carefully. Old Ming and I are both looking forward to holding our grandson," Ming's mother said with a gentle and kind smile.
Ming's father gently patted Ming's mother, indicating that her words were inappropriate.
This makes it sound as if the Ming family couldn't wait to marry their daughter off to the Gu family.
"Okay. I'll discuss it with Jiayi properly; we should listen to her opinion, shouldn't we?"
"Yes. Shao Jin, your father has been abroad for quite some time now. Has he told you when he plans to come back?" Ming's father changed the subject.
Gu Shaojin's smile froze on his face. He picked up the teacup in front of him, took a sip of tea, and then replied in an icy tone, "No."
"Sigh, that old Gu is really something. He leaves his son here managing the company all by himself, while he goes off to have a good time." Ming's mother couldn't help but mutter a complaint.
Gu Shaojin continued drinking her tea without saying a word.
As the atmosphere grew increasingly awkward, and Ming's parents were at a loss for words, Ming Jiayi swayed as she walked downstairs.
She walked into the kitchen on her own and asked the nanny who was cooking, "Auntie, when can we eat? I'm so hungry."
"Miss, there are two more dishes, they'll be ready soon."
"Okay," Ming Jiayi replied with a smile as she walked towards the living room.
All four of them were staring intently at her.
Ming Jiayi patted her mouth, somewhat bewildered, and asked, "Why are you all looking at me?"
"You brought Xiao Gu back for dinner, and then you went upstairs to the living room to watch TV. Don't you have any manners?" Ming's father scolded.
Ming Jiayi scratched her head indifferently.
Even after she came down, she couldn't get a word in edgewise, and she was still pressured to get married.
She's not happy about it.
Besides, aren't the Gu family and the Ming family old friends? Ming Fengche and Gu Shaojin also grew up together.
They have a ton of topics to talk about.
Gu Shaojin put down her teacup and replied earnestly, "It's alright, Uncle. Jiayi doesn't treat me like an outsider, that's why she let me stay here and chat with you. I understand her."
Ming's mother frowned; this future son-in-law was much more sensible than her daughter.
"Jiayi, look at Shaojin, how good she is to you, and she even makes excuses for you. Look at you, you don't know any manners at all."
Ming Jiayi pouted and replied with a hint of coquettishness.
"What he just said is absolutely right. I consider him one of my own, so I don't need to bring him along."
"You silly child," Ming's mother said with a gentle smile.
Upon witnessing this scene, Gu Shaojin suddenly became somewhat dazed.
It felt strangely familiar.
The housekeeper, Aunt Zhang, walked into the living room, placed her hands neatly in front of her, bowed, and said, "Sir and Madam, dinner is ready."
"Okay. Xiao Gu, let's go eat." Ming's father stood up from the sofa and slowly walked towards the dining room as he spoke.
The five of them walked together toward the dining room.
The table was laden with an abundance of dishes, including everything that swims in the water, flies in the sky, crawls on the ground, and sprouts from the soil.
"Xiao Gu, is the Yun Tang He She project almost finished? What direction do you plan to develop in next?" Ming Fengche asked while picking up some food.
Gu Shaojin answered in his deep, magnetic voice.
"The rumors outside are a mix of truth and falsehood, so it's best to listen to them less. The Yunshe project won't be completed anytime soon."
“Oh, is that so? Jiayi acquired Joyful Entertainment before, so I’m quite optimistic about the entertainment industry lately. I’m planning to invest in a drama series. Are you interested?” Ming Fengche asked.
Ming Jiayi felt that her mission was accomplished, so she was no longer willing to get involved in these matters.
She then buried herself in her food and ate.
Ming's father looked at Ming Fengche with a serious expression and asked in a somewhat accusatory tone, "Why are you investing in a drama? Do you plan to develop a career in the entertainment industry?"
"I'm not planning to develop a career in the entertainment industry; I'm just looking at recent investment opportunities," Ming Fengche explained.
“I don’t handle matters in the entertainment industry; I’ve left that entirely to the CEO of the subsidiary,” Gu Shaojin replied.
Ming's mother didn't like getting involved in company matters, so she didn't want to listen. She just kept putting food into Ming Jiayi's bowl.
This daughter only comes back a few times a year, so we don't see each other very often.
Since she's rarely back, I should give her plenty of food.
"Mom, you eat by yourself, don't put food on my plate," Ming Jiayi said while putting food on her mother's plate.
Ming's mother covered her bowl. "You rarely come back, eat more. I'll just put some on your plate, don't give me so much again. I can ask the housekeeper to make me something anytime I want to eat."
“That’s right.” Ming’s father looked at Ming Fengche and said, “You don’t need to worry about that entertainment company at all. Just leave it to Jiayi’s boss. You focus on developing the main business of the Ming family and don’t get involved in these fancy things.”
“Dad, this is the future trend. If done well, it can become a main industry. You can ask Jiayi if you don’t believe me.”
Ming Jiayi was taken aback, then looked at her mother and then at Ming Fengche, "What did you ask me?"
Ming Fengche frowned and repeated it seriously.
“I said the entertainment industry is the future trend. If my investment is successful, it can become the main industry of the Ming family. Do you think I’m right?”
Ming Jiayi gave a light "Oh," and said, "No, that's not right. The entertainment industry is too chaotic. It's fine to invest in it, but it's not suitable to make it the main business of the Ming family."
Gu Shaojin nodded. "Jiayi is right. The entertainment industry is not suitable for long-term investment and development. Ming's real estate and cosmetics businesses are also quite strong. I personally think you should think twice before entering the entertainment industry."
Ming Fengche sighed softly, "Alas, our Ming family's crisis this time was truly saved by Yuyue Entertainment, so I think it's worth a try."
Ming's father was somewhat dissatisfied, "We're not destitute and trying to make a comeback. The real estate and cosmetics industries haven't collapsed, have they? Why are we thinking about transformation? We should be honest and straightforward, and not think so much about things we shouldn't be thinking about."
Ming Fengche nodded perfunctorily, "Okay, I understand."
Ming's mother gently nudged Ming Jiayi, then kept giving her meaningful glances.
Ming Jiayi looked at her mother's winking and gesturing with a blank expression, not quite understanding.
Ming's mother put another piece of meat on Ming Jiayi's plate, and then looked at Gu Shaojin's bowl.
She gestured for Ming Jiayi to serve food to Gu Shaojin, so she wouldn't eat alone.
Ming Jiayi gave her mother a simple smile, then buried her head in her food and started eating.
Ming's mother patted Ming Jiayi's hand, feigning anger, "You child!"
