Liao Ying paused for a moment, then followed Gu Shaojin's gaze to Ming Jiayi, and chuckled softly.
Unexpectedly, the first time I met my son in more than 20 years, I also met my daughter-in-law.
"When did you get back?" The dean stood up and asked, looking slightly excited.
Liao Ying reluctantly shifted her gaze to the dean and said slowly, "I haven't been back long. I think I should take a look first..."
The dean smiled knowingly, then turned to Gu Shaojin and said, "Jiayi, move over there a bit. Shaojin, you move over too, make room for this auntie."
The two cooperated perfectly and did as the dean instructed. Liao Ying, with an excited heart, slowly walked to the empty seat next to Gu Shaojin. She swallowed hard and sat down with a slight tremor.
She pursed her lips, turned her head and stared intently at Gu Shaojin. She really wanted to reach out and touch Gu Shaojin's face.
But not now. If she did that now, Gu Shaojin would definitely be angry, and his impression of her would also become bad.
"Is your name Gu Shaojin?" Liao Ying asked in a low voice.
Gu Shaojin frowned and gave a faint "hmm," "You know me?"
“I…know him,” Liao Ying replied weakly.
Gu Shaojin nodded indifferently.
Many people know him, so he doesn't find it strange at all.
But this auntie looked really familiar, and he even felt that she looked somewhat friendly, which was really strange.
"Shao Jin, may I call you that?" Liao Ying asked Gu Shao Jin with gentle and kind eyes.
Ming Jiayi scratched her head, feeling something was a little strange, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.
Should she say that Gu Shaojin's looks appeal to all ages, or should she say that this aunt is a bit strange?
Ordinary people wouldn't look at a stranger with such sincere and earnest eyes upon first meeting them.
"Whatever," Gu Shaojin replied casually, as if it were nothing to her.
Liao Ying looked at Gu Shaojin in silence and said sincerely, "You and Gu Ze really look alike."
“Of course, a biological child would look like his mother,” the dean said as he served Liao Ying tea. “He looks quite like his mother too.”
Gu Shaojin looked up and gave the dean a meaningful look.
He knew that the dean and his father were classmates and had been good brothers for decades, so he had met his mother.
But for more than 20 years, the dean and his father had almost never mentioned his mother or anything about her in front of him. Why did they suddenly bring this up today?
And this auntie is acting strangely.
Could it be that this aunt and my father have some past relationship?
Liao Ying smiled gently and shook her head. "He doesn't look like his mother. He's good-looking, while his mother is just average-looking."
Gu Shaojin frowned and turned his head to look at Liao Ying with his cold eyes.
"Although she was a bit plain, she was still a school beauty back then. If that's considered average, then what kind of beauty could she be?" the dean asked jokingly.
Liao Ying still wore that faint smile on her face. She glanced at Ming Jiayi past Gu Shaojin and said sincerely,
"This little girl is quite pretty, with fair skin and a pleasing appearance."
Ming Jiayi stared intently at Liao Ying, then pointed to herself and asked with some confusion, "Me?"
"Yes, little girl, how old are you this year? What's your name?" Liao Ying asked Ming Jiayi with an expectant look.
Ming Jiayi glanced at Gu Shaojin's cold, aloof face and sensed that Gu Shaojin was somewhat unhappy.
Ming Jiayi looked at Liao Ying with a smile and answered politely.
"Auntie, my name is Ming Jiayi, and I'm 25 years old. Thank you for your compliment. You're very pretty too, Auntie."
However, I've heard that while Shao Jin's mother isn't exceptionally beautiful, she's still a stunningly beautiful woman, both inside and out, and quite lovely. Wouldn't it be unfair to describe her as merely average?
Liao Ying covered her mouth somewhat embarrassedly and chuckled softly, "Do you know what Shao Jin's mother looks like?"
Seeing Liao Ying's expression, Ming Jiayi mistakenly thought Liao Ying was mocking Gu Shaojin's mother's appearance. She then heard Ming Jiayi reply earnestly, word by word.
"From a genetic perspective, when a Y chromosome combines with an X chromosome, the fertilized egg becomes a male embryo. Because the arms of the X chromosome are longer and more prominent, the genes inherited from the mother are more likely to be expressed dominantly in males."
So, Auntie, although I've never met Shao Jin's mother, just based on Shao Jin's appearance, I'm certain her mother must be a great beauty.
Gu Shaojin smiled and turned to stare intently at Ming Jiayi, his eyes filled with an indescribable affection and ambiguity.
Gu Shaojin didn't make a sound, but mouthed to Ming Jiayi, "You mean you think I'm good-looking, right?"
Ming Jiayi stretched out her hands to cover Gu Shaojin's unserious face, then turned him back.
“Yes, Jiayi is right. Although Shaojin looks like his father, I think he looks more like his mother.” The dean said seriously, comparing the two.
Liao Ying looked at Ming Jiayi and Gu Shaojin with immense joy.
I didn't expect my daughter-in-law to have such a high opinion of me. It seems that as long as she's around, her relationship with my son shouldn't get too bad.
"Shao Jin, who do you think you resemble more?" Liao Ying asked with a smile and an expectant look.
Gu Shaojin raised an eyebrow and replied coldly, "Since my girlfriend has said so, then perhaps she is more like my mother whom I have never met."
Liao Ying's smile froze on her face, and her mood, which had just started to improve, instantly plummeted again.
We've met before...
"Will you blame your mother for leaving you when you were very young?" Liao Ying asked somewhat nervously.
Gu Shaojin remained silent for a moment.
Did he blame him? Perhaps he did...
He really had never thought about this question.
The dean stared straight at Gu Shaojin and Liao Ying. He also had children, so he could somewhat understand Liao Ying's current feelings. But what happened back then couldn't really be blamed on Liao Ying.
After a long silence without receiving a reply from Gu Shaojin, Liao Ying lowered her head in disappointment. Then, in a softer voice, she asked again...
If your mother comes back to you, will you forgive her?
Ming Jiayi looked at Liao Ying with a deep gaze. After a while, she slowly reached out and covered her mouth, which was agape in surprise, and a hint of disbelief appeared in her eyes.
Gu Shaojin suddenly clenched his fist, the veins on his hand becoming more prominent from the force. He lowered his head, gave a cold laugh, and answered in utter indifference.
"Come back? If we have to use that word, then let me ask you this: why did she leave for no reason more than 20 years ago?"
