Chapter 17 The Fox Borrows the Tiger's Power

Bu Yu and others were at the end of the Imperial Garden.

The emperor carried Ye Jingchen all the way until they boarded the palanquin.

Along the way, Ye Jingchen probably figured out why the emperor treated the other children so differently.

He himself had been a prince, and probably no one understood the meaning of "there are no brothers in the royal family, only rivals" better than him. That's why he favored the crown prince and didn't give the other princes any chance. He wanted to make the maternal families behind the princes understand that they shouldn't do anything meaningless.

The reason for this idea is probably because the emperor is still young. Even if the crown prince is incompetent, he still has the cost of making mistakes. If it were twenty years later, he probably wouldn't think this way.

Of course, the most important reason for this is that the emperor loved the empress and therefore also loved her children.

In the novel, Consort De once said that the Empress died at the moment when the Emperor loved her the most, and that the living can never defeat the dead. She could not win the Emperor's heart, so she could only seize the power of being the Empress.

The palanquin stopped at the entrance of Weiyang Palace.

The imperial concubine knew he would come, but she still kept the gate tightly closed, clearly not wanting to see him. Fortunately, he had the foresight to ask the emperor to accompany him.

"Fangfei, go knock on the door." Ye Jingchen deliberately ordered a palace maid from the East Palace to knock on the door.

Fangfei knocked for a long time before a eunuch opened the door a crack and peeked outside. He only saw Fangfei and assumed that only people from the East Palace had come. Remembering the Consort's words, he closed the door again without saying a word.

I knew this would happen!

The little devil in Ye Jingchen's heart was laughing so hard he was rolling on the ground.

The emperor was furious.

Those who neglect the Eastern Palace are neglecting the Crown Prince. The Crown Prince is their heart and soul; how can he be treated so disrespectfully?

How could a mere gatekeeper dare to neglect the Crown Prince's palace? So it had to be the master of Weiyang Palace who gave the order.

Ji Wushuang is far too presumptuous, relying on the fact that she is a daughter of the Ji family!

"Zhang Shunde, go!" he ordered in a deep voice.

Zhang Gonggong smiled on the surface, but was bitter inside. He went forward and knocked on the door.

I knocked several times, but there was no response from inside.

The emperor's patience ran out. "Haven't you eaten? Push harder!"

"Bang bang bang—" Zhang Shunde used all the strength he had ever used in his life to bang loudly on the palace gate.

The person inside could no longer pretend not to hear. He opened the door, about to impatiently shoo the person away, when he suddenly met the old face of the chief eunuch—his immediate superior.

Zhang Shunde was a favorite of the emperor, and in the palace, he represented the emperor. Usually, wherever he was, it meant that the emperor was also there. Even if the emperor was not there, there was definitely an imperial decree.

He dared to obey the Imperial Concubine's orders to stop the servants of the Eastern Palace, but he would never dare to block the Emperor's people.

They only hoped that what came was some imperial decree, and not His Majesty the Emperor himself.

The eunuch hurriedly opened the door, and as the door opened, his view opened up, revealing the imperial carriage and the bright yellow figure. The eunuch trembled and was so frightened that he knelt down on the ground.

"Weiyang Palace is really arrogant, daring to block even the Emperor's carriage outside!" Zhang Shunde shouted in a high-pitched voice.

The Imperial Concubine favors His Majesty and is always generous to those around him. Whenever he receives a favor, he can only repay it in this way.

Inside the Weiyang Palace, in the Imperial Concubine's bedchamber, Ji Wushuang was teaching Ye Jingyu to read.

Ye Jingyu was supposed to go to school at the Imperial Academy today, but Ji Wushuang asked for three days off for him on the grounds that he had been frightened the day before, and she personally taught him to read.

In the morning, the Eastern Palace sent two dying palace servants over, saying they were the instigators of the Crown Prince falling into the water, and that their mistress was Consort De. They also said that the Crown Prince would come to visit the Third Prince later.

After taking the person in, she questioned them personally and indeed obtained a lot of information, which matched the testimonies of the few traitors in her palace. However, these two servants alone could not quell Ji Wushuang's anger.

It was an undeniable fact that the Crown Prince wanted to push her child into the water. She went to the Emperor to argue with him, but he punished her without saying a word or even distinguishing right from wrong. She resented the Emperor, but hated the Crown Prince even more.

So she ordered the palace gates closed, intending to give the crown prince the cold shoulder.

I wonder when that little rascal will arrive? And what does he want when he does?

Just then, a palace maid rushed into the inner hall, shouting, "Your Highness, they're here! They're here!"

"So what if they're here? Just block them at the door. What's all the fuss about?" the Imperial Concubine said unhappily.

"Your Majesty, it's not His Highness the Crown Prince, it's His Majesty! His Majesty has arrived at Weiyang Palace!"

Ji Wushuang stood up abruptly. Why was the emperor here?

Since she went to argue with the emperor the day before yesterday, angering him and being punished, the emperor has never come to Weiyang Palace again.

"Hurry and come with me to greet the emperor!" She straightened her clothes and hurriedly led Ye Jingyu out.

Outside the gates of Weiyang Palace, the emperor led Ye Jingchen down from his palanquin, but instead of going inside, he waited for the master of Weiyang Palace to come out and greet him.

Ji Wushuang was somewhat pleased to see the emperor from afar, but when she saw the crown prince beside the emperor, her face couldn't help but darken.

That heartless little devil, knowing he was disliked, actually tried to use the emperor's name to intimidate him.

The fox borrows the tiger's power!

"Your Majesty, I pay my respects!"

"Your subject pays respects to Your Majesty!"

The mother and son stepped forward; one curtsied, and the other crossed their hands.

The imperial concubine was dressed in a bright yellow palace gown, her hair adorned with pearls and jade, her skin was snow-white, and her face was delicate and pretty. She did not look like a mother of a six-year-old child at all, but rather like a young woman of sixteen or eighteen.

Ye Jingyu clearly inherited the concubine's fair skin, red lips, white teeth, and big, bright eyes; he is a very pretty child.
