"The tyranny at the end of the Shang Dynasty caused widespread suffering among the people. The Great Zhou Dynasty followed the will of Heaven and established a new dynasty. The people of the Zhou Dynasty lived in peace and happiness, but they failed to see this and remained blindly loyal to their former ruler," Wu Zemin continued.
"As the Grand Master of the Han Dynasty said, 'A wise person lives in the world and adapts to its changes, not clinging to things.' A minister of Chu also said, 'A sage is one who does not cling to things, but adapts to the times.' A truly wise person should adapt to the changes of the times, rather than sticking to old ways and refusing to change," said Gu Beichen.
"They starved to death for their own 'benevolence, righteousness, and loyalty,' but that cannot be called 'filial piety.' Because they never considered the feelings of their relatives," Ye Jingyu said somewhat angrily.
“But the bond between the brothers was truly strong. They fled the Kingdom of Guzhu one after the other, then joined King Wen together, advised King Wu together, lived in seclusion on Shouyang Mountain together, and finally starved to death together. Don’t you find that touching?” Ye Jingshu asked.
