Chapter 35 Good Brother and Bad Brother

Ye Jinghe looked around at the unfamiliar bedroom.

He was carried in by his older brother last night. He was only thinking about how to get his brother to sleep with him, and didn't have time to observe his surroundings.

The sleeping quarters were large, but not empty. They were filled with exquisite furniture and decorations, a thousand times better than the palace he had lived in before, Changchun Palace.

The bed is large, and the bedding is soft and warm; it's very comfortable to lie on.

Two palace maids were guarding his bedside. They looked somewhat familiar; they were the palace maids who served his brother.

But my brother wasn't in the room.

Ye Jinghe suddenly felt an urgent need to know whether his brother liked or disliked him today, so he ignored the maid's soft greetings, jumped off the bed, and ran barefoot out of the palace.

The surroundings outside the bedchamber were also unfamiliar. He looked around blankly, not knowing where his brother was.

Fortunately, two palace maids chased after him, carrying his boots.

"Fifth Prince, where are you going?"

"Please put on your boots first, the ground is dirty."

He could get hurt if he didn't wear boots, so he stood there and let a palace maid put them on for him.

He didn't want to talk to them, but he really wanted to see his brother.

"Brother." After hesitating for a long time, he finally spoke.

"Does the Fifth Prince intend to go see His Highness the Crown Prince?" one of the palace maids asked softly.

Ye Jinghe nodded.

"His Highness the Crown Prince may not be fully awake yet. Shall we help the Fifth Prince wash up first before we go to see him?"

Ye Jinghe shook his head; he didn't want to wait.

“But His Highness—” the palace maid stammered, clearly not wanting to take him with her.

Ye Jinghe decided to go find it himself.

He walked past the palace maids, chose a direction based on his intuition, and began to walk outside.

"Fifth Prince, may I carry you there?" The palace maid caught up and changed her words.

But Ye Jinghe no longer trusted her, shook his head warily, and went his own way.

"Let me lead the way for you," another palace maid said, and then walked to his side.

Ye Jinghe thought about it and decided to trust her this once, so he followed her.

Before long, he saw the familiar palace, which was his brother's bedroom.

He quickened his pace.

But when he reached the palace gate, the guards standing at the door stopped him.

"His Highness has not yet gotten up. Fifth Prince, please wait a moment." The guards and palace maids said the same thing.

But Ye Jinghe didn't care about any of that; he was too eager to know if his brother had gone astray.

Ignoring the guards' attempts to stop him, he rushed inside.

There were even more palace servants in the outer hall, but Ye Jinghe only glanced at them before rushing straight into the inner hall.

Someone tried to stop him, but he was fearless when he went berserk, and he ran to his brother's bedside.

The palace servants in my brother's palace are really useless. If they are bad people, then my brother will be in danger!

His brother was really sleeping; the palace maid hadn't lied to him. He decided to stand in front of his brother's bed and wait for him to wake up so that his brother could see him when he opened his eyes.

...

Seeing Ye Jing's crazed state and his staring intently at the still-sleeping Ye Jingchen, Fangfei and the others were on tenterhooks.

"Your Highness, wake up!"

"Your Highness!"

"Your Highness the Crown Prince!!!"

They dared not approach the bed, fearing that they might provoke Ye Jinghe and cause him to do something even more extreme that would hurt the unsuspecting Ye Jingchen. So they could only hope to wake Ye Jingchen up.

Now they no longer cared whether shouting from a distance would anger the capricious Crown Prince, nor did they care about court etiquette; their voices were urgent and shrill.

Even if Ye Jingchen were a pig, he would still be woken up in this situation.

"Call back my soul!" he roared, sitting up from the bed.

"Your Highness, please forgive us!" Fangfei and the others knelt down skillfully to beg for forgiveness.

Ye Jinghe stared blankly at the furious Ye Jingchen, his heart sinking to the bottom, feeling as if he had fallen into an ice cave.

As expected, his brother turned back into the bad brother, and his beautiful dream was shattered.

After Ye Jingchen finished venting his anger, it took him a long time to calm down. When he saw Ye Jinghe standing in front of his bed with red eyes, he was also startled.

"Jinghe—cough, little brother Jinghe, what brings you here?" Ye Jingchen coughed and asked with concern.

Ye Jinghe was somewhat confused.

The bad older brother wouldn't call him 'Jinghe's younger brother'; he would only call him 'little bastard'.

But the way my brother looked just now clearly resembled how my bad brother would act when he was throwing a tantrum.

Could it be—

His brother also developed a mental illness, just like him.

When he's healthy, he's a good older brother; when he's sick, he becomes a bad older brother?

Can the older brother control his madness like he can?

Looking at Ye Jinghe, who remained silent, Ye Jingchen couldn't help but feel a little guilty.

He's been trying to control his morning grumpiness for thirty years, but he still can't. It's indiscriminate and it affects everyone, and there's nothing he can do about it.

"Your Highness, the Fifth Prince fell ill again just now. We couldn't stop him, and he ran to your bedside, so we had no choice but to wake you up," Fangfei said to Ye Jingchen.

Although her words were suspected of sowing discord, the Fifth Prince was too dangerous. Even though her words might anger His Highness the Crown Prince and offend the Fifth Prince, Fangfei still gritted her teeth and said them.

Although the Fifth Prince was also a master, in Fangfei's heart, the safety of His Highness the Crown Prince naturally came first.

Has it flared up again?

Ye Jingchen looked at Ye Jinghe. Although his eyes were still a little red, he was very calm and showed no signs of having gone mad.

Ye Jingchen seemed to be deep in thought.

Ye Jinghe's mental illness is quite interesting.

“Your Highness, the Fifth Prince wanted to see you after he woke up, but we were worried that he would disturb your sleep, so we stopped him,” Fangxi continued.
