Chapter 609 A Lively Birthday

Thanks to Ye Jingchen, Xie Chang'an had the most lively birthday of his life.

Even on his wedding day, the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion was never as lively as it is today.

After all, it was only lively outside the mansion that day, while the mansion itself was still deserted.

Today was different. Starting in the middle of the morning, people from Wenhua Hall arrived one after another at the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion to celebrate Xie Chang'an's birthday.

A gentle breeze was blowing, the sun was shining brightly, and the peach blossoms in the courtyard were in full bloom. Ye Jingchen asked Ye Jingming and the others to help him move Xie Chang'an to the soft couch, and then everyone worked together to carry the couch into the courtyard.

Everyone sat in the courtyard, enjoying the breeze, basking in the sun, and admiring the peach blossoms—it was a very pleasant time.

Seeing that everyone else had arrived, Ye Jingchen sent someone to the guard camp to summon Ye Jinghe as well.

"Happy birthday, sister-in-law! This is my birthday gift for you, please accept it!" Ye Jinghe was the last to arrive, and in front of everyone, he called Xie Chang'an "sister-in-law" three times in a loud and clear voice.

Everyone fell silent, staring at him with strange expressions.

Ye Jingchen could only be thankful that Xie Chang'an was unable to get out of bed today, as they were all gathered at Chang'an Residence, and the elders of the mansion were not present.

Otherwise, I don't know how they would feel if they heard those three "sister-in-law" calls.

"Thank you, Jinghe, little brother."

Despite being the person involved, Xie Chang'an remained remarkably calm, readily agreeing without the slightest hint of unease.

He accepted Ye Jinghe's gift and opened it in front of everyone.

He knew how perfunctory Ye Jinghe's birthday gifts to princes and princesses had been in the past, so he deliberately wanted to embarrass him.

However, after opening the casually wrapped outer packaging, he discovered that Ye Jingchen, who was usually stingy, had actually given him pastries from Cuiweizhai, the most famous and expensive restaurant in the capital. However, these pastries were bought entirely according to Ye Jingchen's preferences.

It goes without saying who the snacks are for.

“Jinghe’s gift is very nice; your brother will probably like it very much,” Xie Chang’an said.

"Of course!" Ye Jinghe took the box of pastries from Xie Chang'an's hands very naturally and presented it to Ye Jingchen. "These pastries were just made by Cuiweizhai. Brother, eat them while they're hot."

"The birthday boy eats first." Ye Jingchen took a pastry and personally fed it to Xie Chang'an. Then he picked out a pastry for himself and handed the rest to Ye Jinghe.

"Jinghe, let's give everyone a piece."

Ye Jinghe looked unhappy, but still obediently distributed a piece of pastry to everyone.

After dividing the cakes, only three small pieces remained in the box, and he hadn't eaten any of them yet.

"Brother, are the pastries delicious?" Ye Jinghe asked as he returned to Ye Jingchen's side.

"It's delicious," Ye Jingchen replied.

The pastries were fragrant, crispy, and delicious, sweet but not cloying; they were truly wonderful.

"Then these are all for my brother." He handed the remaining pastries to Ye Jingchen as if presenting a treasure.

Ye Jingchen took one piece and then returned the remaining two to him.

“We’ll each eat two pieces,” Ye Jingchen said.

"Okay!" Ye Jinghe happily agreed, moved the only empty stool in the yard to sit next to Ye Jingchen, and picked up a pastry to nibble on.

"His Highness the Crown Prince is still the most amazing!" Yun Shu exclaimed.

The others remained silent, but all expressed their agreement with the statement.

Indeed, even the two with the worst tempers among them obeyed Ye Jingchen's every word.

"Jingyu, your wedding day with Beichen is coming soon. Have you made all the necessary preparations?" Ye Jingchen asked Ye Jingyu, as if he was about to have a casual chat.

Ye Jingyu and Gu Beichen's wedding was originally scheduled for February, but after Ye Jingchen's wedding date was set, their wedding had to be postponed.

Based on the birth dates and times of the two individuals, the Imperial Astronomical Bureau recalculated an auspicious date: the 22nd day of the third month.

"Thank you for your concern, Your Majesty. Everything is ready," Ye Jingyu replied.

"On your wedding day, your father will bestow a title upon you. If you have any titles you wish for, you can let me know in advance, and I will go to your father," Ye Jingchen said.

"Brother, can we still choose our own titles?" Ye Jingyan asked excitedly.

“You’re still young, there’s no rush,” Ye Jingchen told her.

"Can't I think of something in advance, reserve it first, and then officially confer the title at the wedding?" Ye Jingyan asked indignantly.

She has two older sisters ahead of her. What if they choose the best titles first? Wouldn't she then only be able to choose what her sisters have left behind?

“Then think about it, but Father Emperor might not agree to the title you’re considering,” Ye Jingchen said.

"But my brother is here, so as long as he agrees, that's fine," Ye Jingyan said, tugging at Ye Jingchen's sleeve.

"I can't control Father's decision! Think it over first, and tell me when you've made up your mind, and I'll see if it's feasible," Ye Jingchen said.

Upon hearing this, Ye Jingyu's heart stirred, and she said to Ye Jingchen, "Your Majesty is very knowledgeable, why don't you think of one for me?"

Ye Jingchen looked at Ye Jingyu and thought for a moment, and then he actually thought of an idiom.

"You've always been intelligent and exceptionally talented. Which do you prefer, 'intelligent and beautiful' or 'beautiful and refined'?" Ye Jingchen asked.

"I love Lingyu!" Ye Jingyan said excitedly.

“I didn’t ask you, but neither of these titles suits you,” Ye Jingchen told her.

Ye Jingyan pursed her lips. Was she not smart enough? Or was she not pretty enough? Why wasn't she suitable for her?

“I like Yuxiu,” Ye Jingyu said, then looked at Ye Jingyan and asked, “Second Imperial Sister, what do you think of Lingyu?”

Ye Jingyan glanced at Ye Jingyan, smiled, and said, "Not bad."

“Then Jingyan will be Princess Lingyu from now on, and Jingyu will be Princess Yuxiu. I will consult with Father Emperor,” Ye Jingchen said.
