Chapter 39 Stories and Accidents

The next day, after breakfast, Ye Jingchen took Ye Jinghe to stroll through the Imperial Garden.

He thought the Imperial Garden was a wonderful place, not only because of its beautiful scenery but also because of the many opportunities it offered.

In almost all palace dramas or novels, the Imperial Garden is a hotbed of stories and accidents; for example, it was in the Imperial Garden that he met Ye Jinghe.

The weather was fine and sunny, the sky was clear and the air was crisp, and hundreds of flowers were in full bloom in the Imperial Garden.

Flowers in all senses.

"Just because His Majesty took the prince to stroll in the Imperial Garden a few days ago, these low-ranking concubines thought their chance had come, so they dress up in their finest clothes every day and come to the Imperial Garden hoping to bump into His Majesty!" Fangcao leaned close to Ye Jingchen and shared the news with him.

"Fragrant grass, you must not overstep your bounds!" Fangfei shouted.

"It's alright. If you've heard anything else interesting, you can tell me as well." Ye Jingchen became interested.

Sometimes, the people who know the most secrets in this palace are not the emperor, but the palace maids and eunuchs, who have their own unique ways of passing messages among themselves.

After being scolded by Fangfei, Fangcao didn't dare to say anything more and retreated to the back. But since Ye Jingchen had asked, she stuck out her tongue at Fangfei, made a face, and excitedly moved closer to Ye Jingchen again.

"Your Highness, you may not know this, but after Consort Shu was promoted from Imperial Concubine to Imperial Concubine, Changchun Palace became quite lively. Many concubines used the excuse of visiting and comforting her to go to Changchun Palace and make sarcastic remarks, which almost drove her crazy. It was only when the Seventh Prince suddenly fell ill that things calmed down!"

"Is the Seventh Prince really sick?" Ye Jingchen asked.

The timing of this illness is rather coincidental.

"I don't know." Fangcao shook her head. "Anyway, no one dares to go to Changchun Palace to laugh at her anymore."

"Is there anything else?" Ye Jingchen continued to ask.

"There's something about the Fifth Prince," Fangcao said, glancing at Ye Jinghe, who was being led by Ye Jingchen.

Ye Jingchen perked up and asked, "What news is there about Jinghe's younger brother?"

"Rumors are circulating in the palace that the Fifth Prince has epilepsy and goes crazy from time to time, even biting and hitting people. His Majesty originally wanted to find a concubine to adopt the Fifth Prince, but now it's going to be difficult. Who would dare to raise such a dangerous child by their side!"

"Fangcao, shut up!" Fangfei couldn't take it anymore and shouted again.

She walked up to Ye Jingchen, bowed respectfully, and said, "Your Highness, Fangcao speaks without thinking. I'm worried she might offend you with her words. Perhaps you should find someone else to chat with to relieve your boredom?"

Ye Jingchen wasn't asking Fangcao about gossip just to kill time, but this girl really is bold and dares to say anything, which is quite interesting.

"Never mind, I'll tell you about it another time," Ye Jingchen said to Fangcao.

All we need to do is find a time when Fangfei isn't around.

Fangcao pouted, still feeling a bit regretful, and retreated to the very back of the group of palace maids and eunuchs under Fangfei's stern gaze.

Previously, in order to prevent the emperor from finding another adoptive mother for Ye Jinghe, Ye Jingchen had considered spreading rumors in the palace that Ye Jinghe had epilepsy. However, considering that the spread of such rumors would harm Ye Jinghe, he ultimately gave up the idea. Unexpectedly, rumors still spread throughout the palace.

So, who is secretly spreading rumors?

Is it Consort Shu, who suffered a loss and wants revenge? Or is it someone else entirely?

Is there anyone in the palace who, like him, doesn't want Ye Jinghe to be adopted by another concubine?

Ye Jingchen seemed to be deep in thought.

Just as Fangcao said, there were many concubines in the imperial garden who wanted to run into the emperor today. Ye Jingchen was thinking about something when he encountered another group of them.

The four concubines gathered together, each dressed in their finest attire, their fragrance emanating from them that could be smelled from two miles away.

When Ye Jingchen saw them, they also saw him.

These concubines were all of low rank, so when they saw His Highness the Crown Prince, they naturally had to come forward to pay their respects.

However, as they approached, the various fragrances emanating from them and the palace maids accompanying them caused Ye Jingchen to sneeze involuntarily.

Just then, Ye Jinghe suddenly broke free from Ye Jingchen's grasp, clutched his head with both hands, and looked fierce, instantly falling ill.

"Ah—ah—" he let out painful roars.

"Jinghe!" Ye Jingchen tried to hug him, but Ye Jinghe forcefully shook him off.

Ye Jinghe also fell to the ground due to excessive force, and rolled around on the ground holding his head.

The concubines who were originally going to pay their respects were shocked to see this scene and scattered in all directions.

Ye Jingchen tried to go forward to help Ye Jinghe, but Fangfei and Fangrong held him back tightly.

"Your Highness, the Fifth Prince is in too much danger right now, you can't go!"

"Let go!" Ye Jingchen commanded.

However, the usually obedient palace maids seemed to have lost their hearing this time. Instead of letting go of him, they pulled him away from Ye Jinghe, who had fallen ill.

"Jinghe—" Although Ye Jingchen wanted to go over, he was too small and weak to break free from the palace maids. He could only watch helplessly as Ye Jinghe rolled on the ground in pain, while he was pulled further and further away.

"Go and summon the imperial physician!" he commanded loudly.

Palace servants had already rushed off towards the Imperial Hospital.

"Release me, or I will punish you!" Ye Jingchen said coldly to Fangfei.

His voice was cold, and his eyes were cold too. Fangfei shivered involuntarily and then pressed him down even harder.

"Jinghe, come to your brother." Ye Jingchen had no choice but to say to Ye Jinghe, who was rolling on the ground.

Since he can't get there, then Ye Jing and I will have to come over.
