Chapter 151 Free Lanterns

Old Lady Yun stopped there, not continuing, but smiling as she picked up another fried dumpling from the plate and handed it to Yun Ling.

Yunling quickly stuffed the remaining bits of fried dough into her mouth, chewing as she took the one her mother-in-law handed her.

"Grandma, why don't you finish what you're saying? You're just like a storyteller in a tavern or teahouse, who stops abruptly at the important part and says, 'To find out what happens next, please listen to the next episode.'"

Old Lady Yun glanced at Yun Ling and said, "What do you know, you little brat?"

"What do I not understand? It's just a mouse getting married, just like us humans, isn't it?"

Old Lady Yun found it truly amusing and couldn't help but tap Yun Ling on the forehead.

"Are you comparing people to female mice, implying that if a male mouse marries her, there will be one less pest in the house, but how can that not harm the grain?"

As Yunling listened, the image of a mouse getting married immediately flashed into her mind, and the shock of the image made her burst out laughing.

"Grandma, mother mouse."

"Hey, you little rascal, how dare you tease your grandma! You'll get a good beating!"

Yunling took a bite of the fried dough twist and ran off, with her mother chasing after her. The two of them chased each other around the courtyard, eliciting bursts of laughter.

The next morning, Yunling clung to Yun Chu, Yun Ruochun, and Yun Ruoxia to help her make lanterns. She planned to distribute the lanterns for free during the Lantern Festival to promote the project.

Yun Ruoxia asked in confusion, "Ling-jie, if these lanterns are given out for free, and everyone carries one, wouldn't there be not enough lanterns for so many people?"

"Auntie, let's just make a rough estimate and stop once it's all distributed."

"What if we send them all out but don't attract a single customer? Wouldn't that be a loss?"

Yunling carved the seal onto the paper, and then replied, "But if we don't send them out, won't we not even have the chance to attract customers? Besides, I just wanted to first establish the name 'Zhaoyeqing' so that people in the city would know about this brand, and that they might think of us someday if they feel like it."

Yun Ruochun thought Yun Ling's method was good.

"Isn't this just like our family? Whenever someone mentions which family in the village has more women than men, they'll definitely think of ours. Ling'er must be thinking that in the future, whenever someone wants to buy panties or menstrual pads, the first thing they'll think of is 'Zhaoyeqing,' right?"

Yunling gave Yun Ruochun a thumbs up and praised, "Auntie is absolutely right, awesome!"

Yun Ruoxia didn't care. From her perspective, there were plenty of greedy young people who would just take the lantern and play with it. Once they got tired of it or it broke, they would just throw it aside. They would never think of "Zhaoyeqing" or "thong menstrual cloth".

But Yunling is always more experienced in business than her. Following this method, they might actually be able to build a reputation and attract a large number of orders.

If that's the case, she'll have to keep a close eye on those who come to take the lanterns. If they don't really want to buy them and are just looking to get a bargain, she won't give them to them. After all, making lanterns is time-consuming, laborious, and expensive; it's not as easy as people imagine.

Five days passed in the blink of an eye. After Yunling retrieved the small seal from her father-in-law, she began to tidy up the lanterns scattered throughout the courtyard.

Yun Chu and Yun Ruochun were skillful, making lanterns of all shapes and sizes: flower-shaped, cloud-shaped, rabbit-shaped, square, round, and diamond-shaped.

Yunling is clumsy and can only make the simplest square shapes, following a rigid pattern. She can't make anything more skillful. Yun Ruoxia's craftsmanship is not as lacking as Yunling's, but the lanterns she makes are all on the smaller side, only half or a third the size of other lanterns, but they are still cute.

After tidying up the lanterns, Yunling pulled Yunchu to write out a list. According to her father-in-law's reply, it would take two or three months to make the woodblock for the wood carving. Yunling could only wait and wait and wait.

On the day of the Lantern Festival, Yunling's family had already eaten dinner before the sun was about to set. The group split into two groups and headed to the county town in a grand procession with lanterns in hand.

When they arrived in the county town, night had fallen. Yun Shenghua and Zhang Shi naturally went to stroll around the lantern festival area hand in hand. Seeing the loving couple, Yun's parents were also very happy and went to watch the monkey show hand in hand.

Yunling had no time for such thoughts; her mind was solely focused on her grand project of distributing lanterns, so she muttered to herself:

“I think it would be better if the four of us split up and each took charge of one of the four directions. If we see someone already carrying our signature lantern, we don’t need to give it to them anymore, so that they don’t take advantage of us and those who really want to buy something don’t have a chance to get to know us.”

"Okay, that's a good idea."

Yun Ruoxia responded loudly; she wouldn't allow anyone to take advantage of her.

After the four distributed the lanterns, they went their separate ways. Yunling went to the east side of the city, Yun Ruoxia went to the west, Yun Ruochun went to the north side of the city, and Yun Chu went to the south side.

Yunling placed the lanterns on the railing behind her, picked up two of them, and began walking towards the young woman on the road. "Young lady, these are free lanterns, I..."

Before she could finish speaking, the man hurriedly left, as if afraid of being caught. Yunling was not discouraged. She took the lantern and weaved through the crowd, finally managing to send out one.

"Are these lanterns free?"

"Yes, young lady, just take it. We don't accept copper coins."

The man picked up the lantern and saw words written on it: "Night-Shining Green? What is the reason for this?"

When asked about this, Yunling was delighted and quickly explained, "We are currently making products that care about women's health, such as briefs, menstrual pads and cotton pads. We will also launch other products in the future. Zhaoyeqing is the name of our brand."

Seeing that the person in front of her had taken it to heart, Yunling took out a list and said, "These are our products and prices. You can take them back and take a look, or you can choose not to buy them, it's up to you."

"Okay, I'll take it back and take a look."

When the others saw that the lanterns could indeed be obtained without using any coins, they hurried forward to ask Yunling for them. Some, not wanting to listen to her nagging, simply grabbed their lanterns and left.

Some people come specifically to pick up the forms, thinking they can take them home to practice calligraphy or use them as table legs. Others patiently listen to the form, take it, and then immediately throw it on the ground.

Yunling wasn't angry; she just thought it was normal. She went over, picked up the slip, and continued distributing lanterns, saving herself the slip if she could.

Lu Jiamin saw Yunling from afar. She had long wanted to get to know her future sister-in-law, so she quickly pulled her mother along and squeezed through the crowd to come over.

When Yunling saw Lu Jiamin, she felt that her eyes were unusually warm, and she suddenly felt a little scared...
