Chapter 391 Taking an Inch and a Mile

Yunling put down her brush, gently pinched both ends of the letter with her hands, and blew on them.

Lu Yinghuai had once again overheard her words to her family, and his eyes softened with tenderness as he said with a smile:

"Why don't you care about your grandfather and uncle? Aren't you afraid they'll nag you?"

Yun Ling scratched her temple. It seemed... she couldn't remember. She had written three letters all the way from Pingcheng, but none of them mentioned Yun Shenghua or Old Man Yun.

Yunling was a little confused. This shouldn't be. Didn't she mention it? No way, she must have mentioned it once. It's impossible that she forgot about them.

However, her confidence quickly faded, and she looked at Lu Yinghuai timidly, asking:

"Will they really keep repeating it?"

“They are your family too. Seeing that you care about the rest of your family but they are the only ones missing, you would be a little unhappy, wouldn’t you?”

Lu Yinghuai is also a man, so what he said should be somewhat credible.

Yunling placed the letter further away, thinking of adding her longing for Yun Shenghua and her father between the lines, but there was nothing to add. So she could only add "father" and "grandfather" after her mother at the beginning, which was her way of expressing her concern.

"I've finished writing, so I won't bother you any longer."

Yunling spoke softer and softer, feeling that she was somewhat ungrateful for what she was doing, and a sense of useless sympathy welled up inside her.

"You...you...didn't you just say you only had some accounting work to do? I'm pretty good at math, do you want some?"

Okay~

Lu Yinghuai quickly finished Yunling's sentence, afraid that if he hesitated for even a moment, the woman would deny it.

"You reconcile the accounts with me, and I'll treat you to a lavish breakfast tomorrow morning."

Yunling shook her head immediately at the mention of getting up early. She had no intention of waking up early; she would simply get up a little earlier than the ship's departure time.

"No way, I've already eaten almost all the good stuff in Bianjing, so I don't care if this meal is lavish or not. How about this, didn't you give me a Mohele last time? Let me see it."

"cannot."

"Why not? It's just a glance, how could it possibly break?"

Yunling stared intently at Lu Yinghuai, determined to find the slightest clue in his face.

"Oh, did you make Mohele for other young ladies at the same time? You can't tell which one is which yet, and you're afraid I'll see through you, so you're hiding it."

Lu Yinghuai truly admired Yun Ling's mind; he wondered what was going on inside it all day that allowed her to come up with such peculiar ideas.

"I didn't, don't frame me."

"If there's nothing there, why won't you let us see? Is it inlaid with gold, or will a grain of gold fall off if we stare at it?"

Lu Yinghuai was now in a dilemma. Yun Ling was currently in the upper hand and had a strong presence. If he didn't let her see it, it would probably create unnecessary rifts between them.

He didn't want any of that; there couldn't be any rift between them.

"Turn your back to me first, I'll look for it."

Lu Yinghuai's lack of openness made Yunling suspicious, but since he asked her to turn her back, she would turn her back.

But as soon as she turned her back, her hearing became exceptionally sharp. First, she heard the sound of the box door being opened, followed by the sounds of boxes being pushed and pulled one after another.

Yunling felt a little resentful. If he had truly treated her Mohele as a bodhisattva, as he had said, he would have found it easily.

Moreover, the sounds came one after another, which was probably just as she had guessed. It was like casting a line in a fishpond to see which fish would take the bait.

Yunling grew angrier the more she thought about it. She turned her back without listening to him and seized the opportunity to turn around suddenly. She saw the man pick up the box, push and pull it, reveal a Moho Le (a type of yogurt), and then close it. He then started picking through the box again.

"Lu Yinghuai, you still dare to say you're not?!"

What am I?

Yunling, too lazy to talk to this refined scoundrel any longer, stormed out the door, but was grabbed by the hand after only a few steps.

“Lingniang.”

Yunling forcefully shook off his hand. She felt utterly disgusted by the hand he had held, and if it weren't her own, she would have chopped it off.

But as soon as he shook her off, Lu Yinghuai grabbed her again, this time with all his might, gripping her so tightly it hurt.

"Come in and take a look. If you think I'm really in the wrong, then you're not angry, okay?"

Yunling didn't want to talk to him, but fearing that she might have wronged him, she could only temporarily go back to her room as he wished.

"Come sit here over here, and I'll open them one by one and show them to you."

Lu Yinghuai calmed her down before slowly releasing his grip. He pulled out a small box, then brought it close to Yun Ling's eyes and whispered:

"Take a look."

Yunling saw that the box contained a small Mohele, which had only three hairs on its head, a fierce look in its eyes, and a clenched fist on one side.

Before Yunling could think, Lu Yinghuai handed her a second one. This second one looked a bit bigger, and the hair had grown out. However, the expression on his face was mischievous, and he was holding a money bag in his hand.

The third one is wearing a ginger-yellow top and a navy blue long skirt, with a land deed hanging at her waist. There's also someone dressed in men's clothing riding a horse with a confident expression, someone holding a large pile of flatbreads and laughing happily, and someone wearing a long skirt and jacket who is gentle and dignified...

This...this...these are all her, they are all her.

Yunling's face burned; even swallowing made her throat feel tight.

"Isn't your mouth meant for talking? Why didn't you just say it sooner?"

Seeing that the man's anger had subsided, Lu Yinghuai's lips curled into a smile.

"I was about to say that when we were at the watchtower, but you stopped me, so I don't dare to say it now."

Yunling hadn't expected that the root of the problem was still with her. Thinking back to her anger and rage earlier, she felt even more absurd. Luckily it was Lu Yinghuai; if it were anyone else, they probably would have really had a big argument.

Knowing she was in the wrong, Yunling couldn't say anything more to argue, so she obediently sat down on the stool and helped Lu Yinghuai settle the accounts.

Lu Yinghuai tidied up the Mohele, then moved another stool over and sat next to Yunling, tentatively resting his head on her shoulder, and said with a slightly aggrieved tone:

"Lingniang, you wronged me just now."

Yunling had no choice; she knew she had done something wrong, so she could only let him be.

Lu Yinghuai was a bit of a jerk. Seeing that Yunling wouldn't say anything, he took advantage of her. He grabbed Yunling's hand and was about to speak when he was punched in the back, and that was the end of it.
