Pity

Pity

In the past nearly eighteen years, Wei Shao had never liked anyone, so it was difficult for him to say with certainty what the source of his current impulse was.

But he was sure he didn't want to see Philo in tears and hurt.

Fei Luo's forehead and whole body were burning hot. He stared at Wei Shao, his face looked very pale. After a few breaths, an even stronger sadness appeared in his eyes.

Wei Shao then realized that his actions only brought surprise and sadness to Philo, but no joy.

He didn't know what the system said to Philo, but it must have mentioned the racial differences between him and Philo, and exaggerated it, which forced Philo to hurt himself.

The system once said that it could only manipulate things outside the rules of the world, such as pulling him in.

This means that if it directly affects Philo, it is a serious violation of the rules.

In this light, the disappearance of the system is not unexpected.

After realizing this, Wei Shao's disgust towards the system suddenly deepened, but there were more important things waiting for him right now.

He took a deep breath, held Feiluo's drooping face, lifted it up, and looked straight into those gray eyes: "Luluo, I said that no matter what happens, you must not hurt yourself. You broke your promise again."

Philo remained silent.

Most of the time, Philo would not ignore him, but if Philo really refused to communicate, Wei Shao actually had no way to deal with him.

If it was just another small matter, it would be fine, but this was not the first or second time that Fei Luo had hurt him, and Wei Shao was determined not to allow him to develop this bad habit.

He lowered his eyes and looked at Philo for a few seconds, then turned and walked to the table, picked up the knife for peeling fruit, pointed the tip of the knife at his fingertips and stabbed it without hesitation.

Although Fei Luo didn't say anything, his eyes never left Wei Shao. When Wei Shao picked up the knife, his face turned pale and he jumped out of bed and pounced on him.

But the reaction speed of a sick body was much slower than usual, and the blade still cut a deep cut on Wei Shao's fingertips, separating the entire edge of the nail from the flesh, and blood gushed out all at once.

Philo gripped the knife handle, his hands shaking badly. He pinched Wei Shao's wound with one hand to stop the bleeding, and used the other hand to frantically look for tools to treat the wound.

Wei Shao held him down with his uninjured hand and asked seriously, "Does it hurt?"

Without waiting for Philo to answer, he lowered his eyes and continued, "Every time you were injured, even when your life was in danger, it hurt me too."

Philo paused.

Wei Shao pulled his hand back, gently shook off the blood from his fingertips, and pushed him back onto the bed: "Can you communicate with me properly now?"

The room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. After a long while, Philo's hoarse voice was heard: "...Yes."

Wei Shao nodded: "Next time you hurt yourself for no reason, I will follow your example."

Philo's lips were very white: "No more."

Wei Shao didn't want to make Fei Luo really uncomfortable, so he stopped at that point. He walked to the bedside and sat down side by side with Philo. His voice was very soft, like the night breeze outside the window: "Lolo, I regret not responding to you seriously before, which made you receive the wrong message."

He looked at Philo seriously: "It rejected you not because of our differences or your insect claws. I'm not sure what it said to you specifically, but whatever it said to you, it was all nonsense."

Philo's ears were buzzing, half from the physiological reaction to the high fever and half from the psychological escape and pain.

He always knew how soft-hearted Wei Shao was.

Because I was soft-hearted, I compromised and stayed again and again. Because I was soft-hearted, I kissed his ugly fingertips. Because I was soft-hearted, I was still comforting him with words that I didn't know whether they were true or false.

Wei Shao could tell from his expression that he didn't believe it.

Language is always pale at certain times, and "not" often has to be followed by many "but"s to appear convincing.

But what is “but”?

Is it because you simply don't like it that you refuse?

"Wei Shao doesn't like Philo" is itself a proposition that cannot be true, but this kind of "like" is probably not what Philo wants.

Wei Shao originally thought that he was sure of it, but when he thought about it again tonight, he felt a little confused.

When he knew tonight that Philo would not come back, he felt not only worry, but also anger and an indescribable sadness.

Of the two touches just now, the first one could perhaps be explained as comforting in an emergency, but the second one even he himself couldn't explain.

At this moment, he looked at Philo's fragile and trembling eyelashes, and a vague idea flashed through his mind.

——He didn't want to see Philo worried and anxious, hesitant and afraid anymore, and he didn't want to worry about his kitten abandoning himself and wandering around in another world.

What would happen if I stayed forever?

A meaningless past, and Philo, there is no need to hesitate when choosing who to do.

He wants to stay, but...

Wei Shao lowered his eyes to look at Fei Luo and asked softly: "Luo Luo, do you know the difference between a brother and a lover?"

He had hitherto avoided confronting Philo's passionate and obstinate emotions; this was the first time he had taken the initiative to broach the subject.

Philo's fingertips resting on the corner of the quilt moved slightly, and there seemed to be some residual warmth there.

He suspected that he was hallucinating and asked hesitantly, "...what?"

"I barged in tonight because I was afraid you would get hurt. If the other person was a trustworthy male insect that you liked, as your brother, I probably wouldn't have come... because I'm not qualified."

"But a lover is different. He will feel angry, and this anger will not be reduced in the slightest just because you change to a reliable insect. He will be jealous and want to possess you."

Wei Shao deliberately did not put himself in the subject, but his mind was still confused.

He tried to steady his breath, then said: "I'm actually not as good as you think. If you are willing to go out and take a look, you will find that there are many people who are better than me--"

He thought that by then you will know that your brother is not the best.

He wanted to say that time would always erase many things, such as the strong emotions and desires, and the vows to stay together through life and death.

He wanted to ask, if you meet another male protagonist in the future, what should I do and how should I deal with it?

"No."

But Philo interrupted him hoarsely.

A tear fell on the back of his hand, hotter than any before.

Fei Luo looked at him with tears in his eyes and said word by word: "There is only one Wei Shao."

He only wants this one.

Wei Shao understood the implication of his words, his breathing suddenly stopped, his heartbeat shook his eardrums, and unspeakable bitterness and joy pierced his heart almost at the same time.

He suddenly felt like a child who was tricked by adults into giving him candy. When he grew up, people pestered him to take his favorite candy, but he didn't dare to accept it.

But he still... wanted it very much.

After a while, Wei Shao grabbed Fei Luo's hand and whispered, "I am very selfish."

"If you want me to stay, you can't be with anyone else in the future - not the emperor, prince, or duke. You can only live with me for the rest of your life."

“Can you do that?”

Fei Luo's expression was empty and confused. He did not expect Wei Shao to say these words directly. His brown eyes stared straight at Wei Shao.

Wei Shao felt nervous and uncomfortable when he was staring at him. He slightly turned his eyes away, stuffed his body, which was as hot as a small fireball, back into the quilt, and said hurriedly: "It's too late today, you can answer me tomorrow... No, answer me in a few months."

In a few months Philo would be eighteen years old.

...He is probably the only one who has a younger brother older than himself.

Wei Shao was a little dazed. He tucked the quilt for Fei Luo and said, "I'm going out to get some fresh air."

Fei Luo sat up and grabbed his hand: "Wei Shao——"

Wei Shao stopped subconsciously: "Hmm?"

Philo was silent for a few seconds, looked at him and said very slowly: "I am a bug, not a human."

Why are you still fussing over this?

Wei Shao frowned unconsciously and sat down next to him again: "Do you think I don't know? Or do you think that ghost's words are more credible than my own?"

Philo was not stupid. After the pain and struggle faded, he thought about it and realized that what happened that day was deliberately done by that thing. Wei Shao might not hate insects as much as other humans...

Fei Luo's throat rolled slightly, and his voice was hoarse: "Then you are doing this because you feel pity for me?"

Wei Shao was so angry that he laughed and looked at him: "Didn't you ask me to pity you last time? You don't want to do that anymore?"

Philo remained silent.

Wei Shao sighed helplessly, stroked his temple, leaned over and gave it a gentle kiss.

"It's not pity," Wei Shao's ears turned red, and he stepped back a little, saying unnaturally, "I'm not a philanthropist."

Philo's eyes flickered for a moment, and he sat up again: "Then can I be your female slave?"

Wei Shao paused for a moment, his expression suddenly turned cold: "What did you say?"

"..." Of course, Fei Luo did not dare to repeat himself. He glanced at Wei Shao, and the light in his eyes became brighter: "Then can I be your female servant?"

Wei Shao suspected that this boy was deliberately pushing his luck, but judging from his expression, he seemed to be asking sincerely.

He held back his anger and said, "It seems not possible. It is illegal to marry more than one person in my family."

Philo smiled for the first time in many days. His lips were pale, but his eyebrows were beautifully curved, and his eyes were as bright as stars.

He asked Wei Shao: "What should we do then?"

Wei Shao was sure that he was deliberately pushing his luck.

Wei Shao snorted and deliberately said, "What do you mean by female monarch and female servant? I only said that I want to stay, but I didn't say in what capacity. Aren't you thinking too much?"

This was just a joke, but Philo seemed to take it seriously - the smile on his face slowly faded.

Wei Shao felt a little regretful for his bad words.

But to his surprise, Philo smiled again and said softly, "It's all right."

What he had always longed for was to be with Wei Shao longer. Because it couldn't last long, he wanted to take a step closer and leave his own mark in Wei Shao's life.

As long as we can stay together, any relationship is fine.

Wei Shao actually wanted to change his words and make amends, but he didn't know what to say, or he couldn't say it.

There was still a transition required between making a decision and adapting to a new relationship. It was a bit too much to ask him and Philo to immediately become a couple.

Philo shook his hand gently: "Brother."

So Wei Shao missed the best opportunity to change his words, and Fei Luo turned back into the obedient younger brother.

Wei Shao had no choice but to give up.

He thought that there was a long time to come, and he and Philo still had a lot of time to get along slowly and try things out slowly.
