Chapter 21 Coaxing

Chapter 21 Coaxing

Chen Wanrou was exasperated. She stood up with a smile and pulled Gu Jue to sit next to Chu Xiang. "You're so young, you don't understand how tiring it is to work hard in society. There are many people who want the support of their family but don't have it yet."

Gu Jue spoke very frankly, "Mom, you've never worked in society, how do you know how difficult it is?"

Chen Wanrou patted Gu Jue's shoulder with a forced smile, "Although I've never worked, I've heard your father talk about it."

Gu Jue: "My dad inherited the company directly from my grandfather, and he didn't really work hard at it."

Chen Wanrou picked up a milk-filled steamed bun and stuffed it into Gu Jue's mouth, saying, "You must be hungry, eat more."

That way, he won't bring up things he doesn't want to talk about.

Chen Wanrou smiled and changed the subject, "Gu Jue, you and Xiangxiang are studying at the same school again. You can take care of each other at school and go out to play more when you don't have classes. Isn't that a wonderful coincidence?"

Chu Xiang laughed, "Yes, I've heard about it. When Gu Jue took the college entrance exam, it was thanks to Brother Gu's tutoring that he was able to get into university."

Chu Xiang said with admiration, "Wow, thinking about it this way, Brother Gu has to work and tutor his younger brother at the same time. He's really amazing."

When Gu Jue mentioned being tutored by Gu Heng back then, his expression immediately changed. Those days when Gu Heng forced him to study were a shadow in his life.

When Gu Heng was so admired by a young girl, he merely raised the corners of his lips, as if politely returning Chu Xiang's favor, without any further reaction.

Chen Wanrou quickly said, "That's because Gu Jue is naturally smart and can learn quickly. Otherwise, even the best teacher wouldn't be able to help him."

Chu Xiang chimed in with a laugh, "That's right, Gu Jue even told me that he's recently found a way to make money."

Chen Wanrou immediately looked at Gu Jue, "Really?"

Gu Jue unconsciously straightened his back. Growing up, he had always spent his family's money and had never earned a single penny. Now, being watched by everyone, he couldn't help but feel a little smug. "A friend asked me to start a business together. We decided to open a racing club. Of course, their principal knows that I don't have any money on hand, so they said that I don't need to put any money in first. They will deduct my money from the dividends later when there is income."

Even though Chen Wanrou was someone who never worried about mundane things like making money, she still felt something was off. "There's such a thing as someone else paying you to make money?"

Gu Jue said, "That's because I have a good relationship with them. Some people want to join as partners, but they are not qualified."

Gu Jue used to be a little tyrant in the circle, spending a lot of money to take others out to have fun. Now that he's "fallen into trouble," he thinks it's only right that those who benefited from him should repay him.

Chen Wanrou said with relief, "It's okay, just do whatever you want. If you don't understand anything, just ask your older brother."

As she spoke, Chen Wanrou placed another meatball in Gu Jue's bowl. She didn't think there was anything wrong with Gu Jue's small business; after all, even if any problems arose, Gu Heng would handle them.

Chen Wanrou intentionally wanted Gu Jue and Chu Xiang to get along well, so she kept trying to find topics for the two young people to talk about at the dinner table. Chu Xiang only responded politely with a word or two. Gu Jue disliked Chen Wanrou's matchmaking. Normally, he would have already impatiently thrown down his chopsticks, but he didn't today.

Perhaps, as Assistant Yin said, Gu Jue has turned over a new leaf and reconciled with Chu Xiang.

This should certainly be considered the most satisfying ending.

A dining table seemed to divide the people on both sides into two worlds. Chen Wanrou and Gu Jue were a loving mother and son, and she also got along well with her future daughter-in-law, Chu Xiang.

On the other side was a quiet country that seemed to be completely isolated from the hustle and bustle. Gu Heng did indeed have the surname Gu, but most of the time, he seemed to be detached from the Gu family. Precisely because he was Gu Heng, he did not need too much favoritism, which seemed to have become a consensus among everyone.

"Brother Gu, can you take me home?"

The girl's sudden voice brought Gu Heng's attention back. He looked up and met Chu Xiang's gaze.

Chen Wanrou quickly smiled and said, "Xiangxiang, let Gu Jue take you."

Chu Xiang looked bewildered. "Does Gu Jue have a car?"

Hearing this, Gu Jue couldn't help but say to Chen Wanrou, "Yes, Mom, I don't have a car yet. I'll wait until I buy one myself."

He was quite principled; he said he would prove himself, and he really didn't intend to take anything from his family. The Gu family had quite a few nice cars in their garage, but none of them were bought with his own money. He didn't want to be looked down upon by his older brother.

Chen Wanrou didn't take it to heart, "It's just driving Xiangxiang home, your brother won't mind."

The moonlight is perfect tonight. They're walking together alone, a man and a woman. What if the atmosphere is right and they end up doing something passionate?

Chen Wanrou thought to herself that Gu Jue was really clueless; she had created so many opportunities for him, but he didn't know how to seize them.

Gu Heng had already stood up. He looked at Chu Xiang and said, "I'll take you back."

Chu Xiang nodded immediately, quickly stood up, and obediently walked to Gu Heng's side.

Chen Wanrou: "Hey, Xiangxiang, can you sit a little longer? I've prepared some fruit!"

Gu Heng: "She has to go to school for military training tomorrow. She's already had a long day and needs to go home early to rest. We can have the fruit another time."

After saying that, Gu Heng led Chu Xiang out the door. Before Chu Xiang could even politely say goodbye to Chen Wanrou, she was already out of the way.

Chen Wanrou felt uncomfortable. "What is Ah Heng saying? He acts like he's Xiangxiang's elder. He's practically implying that I'm being inconsiderate for asking Xiangxiang to stay a little longer."

Gu Jue was enjoying his meal when he said, "Mom, you're overthinking it. My older brother wouldn't have that intention. He and Chu Xiang aren't even close."

Chen Wanrou thought about it and agreed. Gu Heng had only dealt with Chu Xiang a few times. Why would he go against his mother's wishes for Chu Xiang's sake?

The moon is bright and the stars are few. The wind tonight carries a chill. Under the bright moonlight, the shadows of the two people walking side by side are stretched long, sometimes merging together and indistinguishable from one another.

Gu Heng parked his car on the side of the road outside the villa gate. As he walked out, he consciously slowed his pace and did not deliberately look at the girl beside him. However, his gaze occasionally fell on the shadow on the ground, as if he could observe her every move through the shadow.

Another gust of wind blew by, and Chu Xiang got goosebumps on her arms. She hugged her arms and rubbed them, hoping that the temperature would drop soon, and it would be best if it rained tomorrow, so that they wouldn't have to do military training!

Gu Heng stopped and asked her, "Are you cold?"

Chu Xiang wore a thin nude pink dress that accentuated her waist. The skirt swayed gently in the wind, revealing glimpses of her fair skin above her knees, which made her figure appear even more slender.

When a man asks a girl if she's cold on a chilly night, the rest of the story is pretty self-explanatory.

Chu Xiang's eyes flickered slightly. She raised her face and said pitifully, "It's very cold."

Gu Heng took off his suit jacket, and the next second, Chu Xiang was enveloped by the jacket that exuded the man's aura. The jacket was too big for her, hanging loosely on her body, making her realize that his jacket was enough to cover her up.

Chu Xiang seemed a little embarrassed. She clutched her collar, lowered her head slightly, and buried half of her face in her clothes, but her bright, dark eyes were looking at him.

The man was tall with long legs, broad shoulders, and a narrow waist. The buttons of his white shirt were fastened all the way down to the last button below his Adam's apple, giving him an alluring, ascetic air. One could easily imagine what a great physique he possessed beneath this meticulous appearance.

Gu Heng felt a little dry-mouthed under the girl's gaze. His Adam's apple bobbed slightly, as if he was trying to control himself, and he said in a very authoritative tone, "It's going to get colder soon, so wear more clothes when you go out."

As he spoke, he naturally took a step back, distancing himself from her.

Sometimes, it's easy to make mistakes if you're too close.

The naive Chu Xiang couldn't see the man's hesitation. She took a big step forward, almost touching him, and looked up at him with her bright, star-like eyes, asking nervously, "Do I still have any dessert?"

The wind carried her scent, and Gu Heng held his breath for a moment.

Chu Xiang seemed only concerned with her own dessert. She reached out and carefully grabbed the cuff of the man's shirt, tugging at it gently. "You promised to buy me dessert, is there any more?"

Chu Xiang tilted her head slightly, the end of her ponytail swaying gently behind her, outlining the shape of the wind, and a strand of hair gently brushed against his chest.

The tiny force tugging at his sleeve jolted his heart into a frenzy.

Suddenly, Gu Heng grabbed her hand, but remained silent. When he was silent, he could put a lot of pressure on people. He gripped her wrist with a bit of force, but strangely, she wasn't afraid of him.

The light in Chu Xiang's eyes shone even brighter.

However, no one knew what Gu Heng was thinking. As if he wasn't the one who had been strangely silent before, he calmly released her wrist, raised the corners of his lips, and said gently, "You're still just a child. I won't forget the dessert I promised you."

Chu Xiang frowned. "I'm not young anymore."

Gu Heng didn't dwell on the issue with her. He turned around and left, saying, "The dessert shop should still be open at this time."

It seems that as long as we don't dwell on whether she's still young or not, we don't need to worry about anything else.

Gu Heng took a few steps but didn't see the shadow behind him following. He stopped and turned around to look at her.

Chu Xiang stood still, her lips pressed into a thin line, practically screaming "I'm very unhappy" on her face.

Who said Miss Chu was very well-behaved?

Actually, she has quite a temper.

She looked at him with her eyes wide open, clearly waiting for him to coax her.

It was indeed a very strange experience. Gu Heng had never experienced having someone waiting for him to coax him before, but he was not the type of person who knew how to coax others.

So he stood still.

It seemed as if a silent war had begun between the man and the girl.

Then, her eyes slowly reddened.

Gu Heng's eyebrows twitched slightly.

As the night wind picked up again, only the man's figure could be seen. He moved first, step by step, and whispered to her, "How about two desserts?"

After a long while, the girl's voice, seemingly reluctant, came from the darkness: "Alright, since you're so generous, I'll reluctantly accept it."

He chuckled softly.
