Chapter 17 The Taste
The station was bustling with people.
Assistant Yin went to pick up the tickets, and Gu Heng stood in the corner, his eyes unconsciously observing the decorations around him. This was one of his little habits, or you could say it was a case of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Just then, a girl's voice came from behind, "Mr. Gu."
Gu Heng looked up and saw the girl walking towards him with light steps.
She stopped in front of him, her eyes crinkling with a smile, as if to say that meeting him here was a wonderful surprise.
Compared to the awkwardness of their last encounter at the restaurant, could their meeting now be described as a pleasant surprise?
Gu Heng's expression softened, and he greeted her gently, "Miss Chu."
When Chu Xiang arrived at the station, the first thing she saw was Gu Heng. After all, among the crowds of people coming and going, only Gu Heng, dressed in a suit and tie, stood there motionless, attracting a lot of attention.
She asked with a smile, "Is Mr. Gu going on a business trip?"
This is a high-speed rail station, which is why she made that guess.
Gu Heng nodded. "Yes, Miss Chu is here to pick someone up?"
Today is registration day, and Chu Xiang will soon officially start classes, so he guessed that she couldn't possibly be out of town for fun, so there was only one possibility: she was here to pick someone up.
Chu Xiang smiled and said, "Yes, my younger brother is coming to visit me."
Gu Heng was naturally aware of the Chu family's structure. He recalled the information that Assistant Yin had provided earlier and said, "Senior year of high school is the most stressful time for studying. It's good to have some fun before school starts and relax in a balanced way."
Chu Xiang: "That's what I think too. Actually, it's not just about letting Chu Huai relax before school starts, but also about myself."
She sighed, her face full of worry, "There will be military training after school starts."
Gu Heng couldn't help but recall the first time he saw Chu Xiang. In the police station's break room, the young girl sat there alone, her eyes red, tears still wet on her face, her figure thin and pitiful.
Now, she's troubled by trivial things like military training. The way she sighs and complains is really in line with her age, making her seem more vibrant than before.
Seeing that her brows were furrowed, Gu Heng smiled slightly and said, "Military training is indeed very tough. After it's over, treat yourself to some desserts."
Chu Xiang recalled the times he had caught her eating heartily, and she felt a little embarrassed. "Actually, I don't usually eat that much."
Gu Heng: "I know, you only think about eating more when you're in a bad mood."
These were just some random words Chu Xiang had said in the past, and he still remembered them.
Chu Xiang looked up at him. The man still had that serious look on his face, which made his teasing even more unbelievable. She gave a dry laugh, not knowing how to respond.
A young mother shouted, "DouDou, don't run around!"
The boy waving the toy car wasn't so obedient; he headed straight for the corner.
Chu Xiang suddenly saw the man in front of her approaching. His chest was inches away, and she could clearly see the dark pattern on the tie above his shirt under his suit jacket.
He stretched out one hand and placed it across her waist, blocking the boy who was running towards her haphazardly.
The man's mature aura instantly enveloped her, and Chu Xiang tensed up. She unconsciously stared at the dark tie, his scent lingering around her nose. The feeling of being subtly drawn into his protective circle stirred up a strange...excitement within her.
The boy met Gu Heng's gaze, and being young, he was so frightened that he stopped in his tracks, not daring to take another step.
In fact, Gu Heng only glanced at the boy expressionlessly, but perhaps because he had been in power for many years, his temperament naturally carried a kind of oppressive force, which was even more terrifying in the eyes of the child.
The little boy felt that the uncle was scary. He took two steps back shakily, then quickly turned around and rushed into his mother's arms.
It seems the mischievous kids won't dare to run around for a long time.
Gu Heng lowered his hand, and as he looked down, he saw Chu Xiang's flushed face.
He was slightly taken aback.
Chu Xiang's dark, moist eyes were very bright, as if they contained a pool of spring water, now reflecting a few glimmers of light, shimmering and sparkling, her eyes filled with his image.
It was as if he had become a delicious cake.
Assistant Yin returned, "President Gu..."
Upon seeing Chu Xiang, Assistant Yin paused for a moment before saying, "Miss Chu is here too."
His appearance broke the awkward atmosphere perfectly. Gu Heng belatedly realized that he was too close to Chu Xiang, so he took a step back and said to Assistant Yin, "Miss Chu came to the station to pick someone up. We just happened to meet."
Assistant Yin looked at Gu Heng strangely. If they didn't just bump into each other, were they on a date here? He didn't understand why his boss would explain it like that.
Gu Heng remained silent; in truth, he didn't understand either.
Chu Xiang asked with concern, "Are you going on a business trip for a long time?"
Assistant Yin smiled and said, "If all goes well, it should be resolved in two days."
Although Gu Heng is now the head of the company, he is not a hands-off manager. He personally handles important matters to prevent his subordinates from making mistakes, just like his grandfather.
Back in the day, Mr. Gu was also known as a work machine.
Their train was about to arrive at the station. Gu Heng and Assistant Yin went ahead to say goodbye to Chu Xiang, and then they went into the waiting room together.
Assistant Yin said, "I don't know what the situation is between Young Master Gu and Miss Chu now. Young Master Gu went to Miss Chu's apartment to see her before, so they should have made up."
Gu Heng paused slightly, the image of the girl saying "Have a safe journey" flashing through his mind. Just like every time they parted, she waved her little hand at him, reminding him to be careful.
Assistant Yin asked, "Mr. Gu, is there something you need?"
Gu Heng loosened his tie and continued walking forward. "It's nothing, let's go."
Chu Xiang waited at the station for ten minutes, looking down at her phone, when suddenly someone covered her eyes from behind, and a deliberately lowered voice came, "Guess who I am?"
Chu Xiang slapped him across the face, "Chu Huai!"
The tall boy wasn't angry at being slapped. He grinned and withdrew his hand, then approached Chu Xiang, "Sis, have you been waiting long?"
The boy was tall and slender, with a black backpack slung over one shoulder, a white short-sleeved T-shirt, black casual loose shorts, and sneakers on his feet. His simple outfit couldn't hide his sunny and energetic spirit.
When he smiles, his eyes crinkle at the corners, much like Chu Xiang's. His features are delicate, and his clean, jade-like face adds to his youthful and cheerful appearance.
It's not without reason that Chu Huai has always been secretly admired by girls.
Chu Xiang moved closer, pressing herself against Chu Huai and inhaling his scent.
Chu Huai's smile vanished instantly, replaced by a look of grievance. "Sister, I didn't run or jump, and I don't smell of sweat!"
Chu Xiang stepped back, touched her chin, closed her eyes to savor the memory, and then thought to herself, "Indeed, only his scent is so pleasant."
