Chapter 48: My punishment is to not touch you for a month.
Chu Xiang calmly covered Chu Huai's mouth, "Alright, I understand, you can shut up now."
The driver in front felt a chill run down his spine. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, pretending not to have heard how terrifying the boy's words were.
Chu Xiang discovered Chu Huai's violent and destructive tendencies when Chu Huai was five years old and still in kindergarten. A child threw a doll that his mother had made for him into the water.
Chu Huai wasn't angry. He even played with the child in a very good mood. The child was sitting on the swing, and Chu Huai was pushing him from behind. Later, when the child was at the highest point, the swing broke, and the child fell off.
It seemed like an accident, but the cracks on the swing didn't look natural. So the kindergarten checked the security footage and found that a few days before the child played on the swing, Chu Huai had somehow gotten hold of a sharp piece of metal. His small figure squatted on the ground and rubbed the swing repeatedly for several days, which eventually caused the cracks to appear on the swing.
Thanks to Chu Sheng's handling of the situation, the matter did not escalate. He gave the other party a sum of money, and Chu Huai also changed kindergartens.
Chu Huai was still a five-year-old boy who only knew how to stick to his older sister all day long. Sometimes, when it thundered and rained at night, he was afraid and couldn't sleep, so he would beg Chu Xiang to sleep with him.
This seemingly naive child has now grown into a sunny and cheerful teenager, although sometimes he still unexpectedly utters a scary word or two.
The birthday banquet celebrating the coming-of-age ceremony of the only daughter of the Meng family was naturally a grand affair. Most of the social elites came to join in the fun out of respect for Mr. Meng. Chu Xiang and Chu Huai arrived not late, but many people had already arrived beforehand.
The Meng and Chu families have some overlap in their social circles, so Chu Xiang saw many familiar faces. Her "plastic sisters" greeted her quite a few times, and some of them even turned their interested gazes toward Chu Huai.
Chu Huai is tall and handsome, and when he wears a suit, he is no less than a male model. This boy will be an adult in a year, so it's not a bad idea to set him up in advance before making a move.
The Song family's daughter, who was very close to Chu Xiang, smiled and said, "Xiangxiang, you're already engaged to the second young master of the Gu family. Your younger brother isn't much younger than you either. Are you going to get engaged to some other young lady too?"
Chu Xiang took Chu Huai's arm and smiled politely, "My brother is focused on his studies right now, and my father has said that if he doesn't get into a good school, he can repeat a year. We can't let the Chu family down. Boys mature later than girls, so our family doesn't plan to say anything about girls for him right now. He just needs to focus on his studies."
Chu Huai chimed in, "My sister is right."
The Song family's daughter understood the implication. She wisely stopped looking at Chu Huai and quietly said to Chu Xiang, "July isn't in a good mood."
Logically speaking, with so many guests already here, Meng Qiyue should have been there with Mr. and Mrs. Meng to entertain them, but she is nowhere to be seen.
Chu Xiang did see He Sui, but He Sui was clearly more interested in the handsome men and beautiful women at the banquet. She also saw Chu Xiang, walked over, took Chu Xiang's hand, and smiled, "Chu Xiang, is this your younger brother?"
Chu Xiang nodded, "Yes."
He Sui gave Chu Huai a once more scrutinizing look, as if he were picking out a cabbage. Then, she excitedly squeezed Chu Huai's hand again, "Little Chu, please make sure you get into A University! We'll definitely reserve the lead role in our drama club for you!"
Chu Huai gave an awkward laugh.
He Sui merely shook hands with Chu Huai in greeting before letting go of his hand. She then spotted several familiar faces with good looks, so she changed direction and went to try and get closer to them.
Chu Xiang then asked Miss Song, "Did something happen in July?"
Miss Song shook her head. "I don't know either, but I did hear some interesting news. Not long ago, Mr. Meng seemed to have brought back a boy who was about the same age as July."
Chu Xiang frowned.
Miss Song muttered softly, "However, this kind of thing doesn't happen without warning. Mr. and Mrs. Meng only have one daughter. Not having a son must be a great regret for Mr. Meng. Mrs. Meng is no ordinary woman. She can come out to accompany Mr. Meng to social events with a normal expression, but July is proud and arrogant. She might not be able to tolerate this kind of thing."
Just then, Mr. Meng's surprised voice came from not far away, "President Gu, it's been a long time."
The man extended his hand and shook hands politely with Mr. Meng. He said in a gentle voice, "I heard that Chairman Meng has a happy occasion in his family. I remember that I had a very pleasant collaboration with Chairman Meng last time, so I came uninvited."
Mr. Meng smiled and said, "I would be more than happy if you could come."
The fact that Mr. Meng treated someone with such courtesy immediately piqued everyone's interest.
He was a man whose extraordinary temperament was evident even from his appearance alone.
He stood tall and elegant, with a cold and hard face. His deep eyes held politeness, but also a cold indifference. His black bespoke suit made his shoulders appear even broader and his legs longer, outlining his slender figure. The shirt and tie under his suit jacket were perfectly pressed without a single wrinkle. This noble man exuded an aura of asceticism from the very core of his being.
People were whispering about him and mentioning his name.
Chu Huai lowered his head and whispered to Chu Xiang, "Sister, is he Gu Jue's brother?"
Chu Xiang nodded and gave a faint "hmm".
The Gu family and the Meng family had no connection whatsoever. Their only collaboration was a game developed by Black and White City and a co-branded jewelry product from the Meng family. Such a small business was not considered important by the leaders of either family, which is why Mr. Meng did not expect Gu Heng to come.
But since Gu Heng was here, he certainly wouldn't miss the opportunity to make friends.
Gu Heng was courteous and polite in dealing with Mr. Meng, who was older than him. He followed Mr. Meng's words flawlessly several times, but his gaze kept drifting to the girl standing on the other side.
He knew that the person Chu Xiang was arm in arm with was her younger brother, but the scene and atmosphere of Chu Xiang standing with that boy of similar age were just right. Every time he smiled and replied to Mr. Meng, his perfect expression made his heart feel suffocated.
Chu Xiang pretended not to notice and said to Chu Huai, "I'm a little worried about Qiyue. I'm going to go see her. You wait for me here."
After Chu Huai agreed, Chu Xiang turned and slipped out of the living room. She had known Meng Qiyue for so many years and had been to the Meng family before, so she naturally knew where Meng Qiyue would hide when she was in a bad mood.
She walked in the moonlit courtyard, the gentle moonlight casting long shadows. After crossing most of the courtyard, she stopped and turned around, her tone full of dissatisfaction, "Why are you always following me?"
Gu Heng said, "I'm thinking about how to make my girlfriend happy."
Chu Xiang glanced around. "Is your girlfriend around? I don't know her. Uncle Gu, I'm still young, don't try to fool me."
Sometimes when she was in a bad mood, she would call him Gu Heng, and when she was teasing him, she would call him Brother Gu. In a short period of time, his seniority rose to a new level and he became Uncle Gu. Gu Heng felt that if he had come to find her a day or two later, he might have become Grandpa Gu.
Gu Heng stared at her with his dark eyes, his voice slightly hoarse, "Xiangxiang, you haven't replied to my messages for a whole day, and you haven't kissed me for a whole day."
The voice, softened, was very low, as if it contained a sense of grievance.
Chu Xiang felt a chill run down her spine. She covered her ears and stomped her feet angrily, "Old man Gu, you're playing the victim! You're so despicable!"
Gu Heng moved closer to her, leaned down and said, "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have made you angry."
He was very close to her, and his aura seemed to envelop her. She could feel his breath and smell the captivating scent emanating from him.
He said, "To teach me a lesson and prevent me from making you angry again, how about I punish myself by not touching you for a month?"
Chu Xiang's eyes widened in anger, "Oh no!"
He didn't touch her for a month. This wasn't punishing himself; it was clearly punishing her on purpose!
