Chapter 257 Mutual Aid Association Headquarters Sang Zhitao carefully slipped from under the bed...
Sang Zhitao carefully crawled out from under the bed, intending to walk to the window to see what was happening outside, but found that the window was already covered by gray fog.
She immediately realized that this was Lin Mo's special ability. Lin Mo's thin figure kept flashing in her mind, making her more and more worried about whether the slender person could handle three people.
"You dare lay a hand on us! You are evil!" A voice from the Purification Hall was accompanied by several screams.
Sang Zhitao tried to discern whether the screams were coming from Lin Mo, but she couldn't tell no matter what she did.
The sounds of the wooden house being squeezed disappeared. Some of the twisted walls stood at an angle, and the roof had been twisted with many cracks. The cold white light shone into the room through the cracks, intertwining and blending with the warm white interior light, making them indistinguishable.
Sang Zhitao licked her lips, stared at the obviously fragile wooden wall, and narrowed her eyes.
The screams outside had ceased, but the fog had not yet dissipated, and the entire outside was deathly quiet.
Sang Zhitao frowned, becoming increasingly worried. Without further hesitation, she kicked what she thought was the weakest point on the wall.
A loud "bang!" shattered the silence.
Heavy footsteps echoed from the mist.
Sang Zhitao cautiously crawled back through the kicked-open hole, first running to hide by the stove, and then carefully waiting to see if the person in the mist was friend or foe.
The thick fog that Lin Mo created was perfect for a little girl like her to hide in.
As the figures gradually became clearer, the fog seemed to slowly dissipate.
Looking at that thin figure, Sang Zhitao couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"Dad!" Seeing the figure swaying as if about to fall, she rushed forward anxiously.
But she was too small; a child's body couldn't withstand the weight of an adult. She could only jump to the side to avoid Lin Mo falling towards her.
She dared not catch the other person head-on; the result would definitely be that she would be pinned down by the other person, suffering either a broken bone or a fracture.
After Lin Mo collapsed to the ground with a thud, the mist vanished completely as if it had never existed.
The three people from the Purification Hall lay on the ground, shriveled and lifeless, like three pieces of dried meat wrapped in white plastic bags.
Sang Zhitao looked helplessly at Lin Mo at her feet, gently placing her hands on his chest, whereupon a green light enveloped him.
It wasn't until much later that Lin Mo opened his eyes. He glanced at the twisted and broken wooden house, then at Sang Zhitao, before looking at the three mummified corpses.
"Who are you?" He finally turned his gaze to the only living person present.
Sang Zhitao's lips twitched, and she looked at Lin Mo, whose eyes were unfamiliar, with disbelief: "You have amnesia?"
Lin Mo frowned: "Who am I?"
Sang Zhitao let out a heavy sigh: "You are my father, Lin Mo, and I am your daughter, Sang Zhitao."
"Why is my surname Lin and yours Sang?" Lin Mo looked at her with disbelief.
“Because you lost me right after I was born.” Sang Zhitao rolled her eyes.
"How old are you?" Lin Mo frowned and looked her up and down.
“Three hundred years old,” Sang Zhitao replied with a worried expression.
Lin Mo tilted his head, his expression indescribable, as if to say, "Do you think I'm a three-year-old?"
Sang Zhitao replied casually, "You're over three hundred years old too."
Lin Mo still looked puzzled, then suddenly realized and said, "Have humans already broken through the lifespan limit?"
Sang Zhitao looked at him suspiciously: "You didn't have amnesia?"
Lin Mo was speechless for a moment before saying, "I have amnesia, not dementia."
As he spoke, he went into the room.
Sang Zhitao watched as he walked around the room as familiarly as before he lost his memory, and then walked to the bedside.
"You really have amnesia?" Sang Zhitao frowned.
Lin Mo responded softly before saying, "I feel like I must have left some information behind."
"How come I didn't know?" Sang Zhitao couldn't help but rub her chin. She had been by Lin Mo's side for almost a year and had never seen him record anything.
Lin Mo didn't reply to her. Instead, he stared at the bed for a long time before squatting down and taking out a key from under the mattress.
Before Sang Zhitao could react, he turned to look at the tool shed on the other side and pulled a wooden box from deep inside a shelf.
Unlock the wooden box; inside is a diary.
When Sang Zhitao saw him take out his diary to read, she couldn't help but walk over and start reading as well.
The diary isn't very thick, but you can tell that there are long intervals between entries. The beginning mainly contains some identity information, and some details about the Spiral Tower and the Shadow Council.
As the handwriting became newer and newer, the time intervals became shorter and shorter, and the amount of ink increased.
The amnesiac version of Lin Mo, reading the diary, gradually shifted from indifference to tenderness in his eyes, just like the Lin Mo before he left.
“Although I don’t remember, I can see from the diary that you are right.” He glanced at Sang Zhitao. “I will familiarize myself with my identity as soon as possible.”
Sang Zhitao glanced at him sideways and couldn't help but say, "I asked you before how you could remember your name and know some common sense when you clearly have amnesia, and you told me that your name came from the collar and your information came from the Spiral Tower."
Why didn't you mention the diary?
Seeing her unhappy expression, Lin Mo tapped the diary with his fingertip: "Perhaps it's because I don't want you to peek at my diary?"
Sang Zhitao couldn't help but roll her eyes at him.
Lin Mo couldn't help but chuckle and pinched her cheek: "I can't help it, I have amnesia, please forgive Daddy?"
Sang Zhitao was somewhat surprised that Lin Mo was so lively after she gestured, but she couldn't help but feel a pang of anxiety in her heart.
She didn't know how the other person adjusted their mindset each time they lost their memory, but it certainly wasn't a good thing.
Waking up in unfamiliar surroundings, with no memories of the past, only a few lines in a diary and an empty environment, plus a group of malicious people.
Those must not be happy memories, otherwise Lin Mo wouldn't have looked so cold.
Lin Mo patted her head, and she immediately came to her senses: "What's wrong?"
Seeing that she had come to her senses, Lin Mo pointed to the diary: "Don't overthink it. What's this pastry? Want to try some?"
Sang Zhitao put aside her turbulent emotions and obediently walked to the storage cabinet and took out a large bowl of pastries.
“You made a lot for me because you were going to be out for a long time.” Sang Zhitao put the bowl on the table. “I didn’t finish it.”
Lin Mo raised an eyebrow, walked to the table, put the diary aside, picked up a piece of pastry, took a bite, and said, "Not bad."
"What do we do next?" Sang Zhitao looked at the three mummified corpses outside.
"Don't worry, leave it to me," Lin Mo replied while eating a pastry.
"What about the house?" Sang Zhitao frowned. "There's a war going on outside, so it's not easy to get timber."
Lin Mo flipped through the diary for a while before saying, "Stay here for now, or move to the mutual aid society tomorrow if necessary."
When he mentioned the mutual aid society, Sang Zhitao immediately thought of the things Jenna had left behind and hurriedly ran out the door.
Lin Mo was caught off guard when she saw her run out the door so quickly.
When Sang Zhitao walked over with a communicator, he looked surprised and asked, "What is this?"
Sang Zhitao quickly recounted her story with Jenna.
Lin Mo paused for a moment before saying, "Alright, put it here with me for now."
As he spoke, he swallowed the last piece of pastry, frowned, and went outside to deal with the mummified corpse.
He used his supernatural ability to block Sang Zhitao's view, making it seem as if he didn't intend for her to see it.
Sang Zhitao opened her mouth, but ultimately decided not to waste the other party's kindness, so she silently turned her back.
So when the gray mist dissipated, all that remained was an indifferent Lin Mo and a pile of dust.
"Is it resolved?" Sang Zhitao stepped forward and took his hand.
Lin Mo responded softly.
Sang Zhitao frowned as she thought of Jenna and the aura of the world fragments within her.
Seeing the worry on her face, Lin Mo sighed and pinched her brow: "What's wrong? Don't always look so troubled at such a young age. You should be happy."
Sang Zhitao nodded, hesitated for a moment, and then chose to be frank: "I want to find Jenna. She has what I want."
"Didn't she say to hand the things over to the mutual aid society? In that case, let's go to the mutual aid society to find her," Lin Mo said with a smile.
Hearing him say that, Sang Zhitao breathed a sigh of relief and obediently nodded in agreement.
After the father and daughter spent two days cleaning the house and packing out what they needed to take, Lin Mo carried Sang Zhitao on his back and walked deeper into the pipe.
"Don't we need to worry about the entrance?" Sang Zhitao asked, watching the pipe entrance gradually disappear from sight.
"Yeah, don't worry about it. I don't think we'll need to open it for a month or two," Lin Mo replied with a smile.
The mutual aid association headquarters is in another adjacent district, which would take Sang Zhitao about a month to walk there, but now that Lin Mo is with them, they only need ten days to reach their destination.
"Tao Tao?!" As soon as they approached the headquarters area, they saw Ruan Ruan, the vice captain of the 325 squad, looking at them with an uncertain expression.
"Ruan Ruan?" Sang Zhi Tao was also a little surprised to see her here, after all, this place was still quite far from the gathering place of 325.
"It really is you." Ruan Ruan greeted her with a look of surprise and delight. "We've come to collect our supplies."
As she spoke, Ruan Ruan looked Lin Mo up and down and asked, "Is this your father?"
Sang Zhitao got off Lin Mo, took his hand, and nodded obediently.
"Are we going to see our captain?" Ruan Ruan winked at Lin Mo. "Your dad is so handsome! He's my type."
Sang Zhitao glanced at Lin Mo, and seeing that he looked normal, she smiled and said to Ruan Ruan, "My father doesn't get close to women."
Ruan Ruan couldn't help but roll her eyes at her: "I'm just taking a look."
"Should I call you uncle or brother?" she asked with a smile, looking Lin Mo up and down.
Lin Mo glanced at her and said, "Call me uncle."
Ruan Ruan shrugged after hearing this, knowing that the other party meant she was refusing to be teased, and then said to Sang Zhitao, "Really not going to see the captain?"
Sang Zhitao shook her head: "My dad and I still have things to do."
"It's okay, you can go play with your friends." Lin Mo smiled and patted her head.
"Never mind, I want to stay with you," Sang Zhitao still refused.
Seeing this, Ruan Ruan said nothing more, bid them farewell, and returned to the place where she received the supplies.
Sang Zhitao followed Lin Mo and continued walking inside.
The mutual aid society's headquarters was much larger than expected, occupying about twenty pipes, while their destination was in the deepest part.
"Lin Mo? What brings you here?" The person in front of me was a middle-aged woman with delicate features. She was wearing a light gray dress and a cream-colored shawl, with her long hair cascading over her shoulders.
"Of course something's up." Lin Mo placed the communicator on the table.
Upon seeing the prominent spiral tower logo on the communicator, the woman on the other end paused, "This is...?"
Lin Mo briefly explained the situation, and the woman's face darkened for a moment, but when she looked at Sang Zhitao, her expression softened: "Thank you, Taotao."
“I’ll handle this. The child must be tired from the journey. You should go and rest.”
After Lin Mo agreed, he carried Sang Zhitao to the side alley, took out a key from his pocket, and skillfully opened the door...
