Chapter 146 The Chick's Earthly Life (Truly the Last Chapter) ...

"Tao Tao?! You... how come you're back now?!" Lin Jing, who was tidying up equipment next to her, looked on in surprise as a tiny, creamy yellow chick fell onto the bed in the observation room.

"Chirp...chirp?!" Sang Zhitao toddled on the ground with her two little paws, her eyes full of confusion.

"What...what is this??" Lin Jing looked at the unsteady chick in front of her with some helplessness, but still pressed the call button immediately.

Sang Lezhi happened to be at the base today when he suddenly heard an alarm coming from the observation room, which startled him so much that he almost dropped the petri dish in his hand.

"What's going on?!" She rushed out of the laboratory and bumped right into Zhang Su, who had come to find her.

"Zhizhi, I think I heard the alarm in the observation room?" Zhang Su had originally planned to come to her to discuss going home, but she didn't expect to hear the alarm as soon as she arrived at the laboratory building.

Before she could react, Sang Lezhi bumped into her again.

Sang Lezhi shook her head repeatedly: "I don't know, it sounds like the alarm for Tao Tao to come back."

"Then you go first, I'll go get the first-aid kit." Zhang Su frowned slightly and quickly gave her a push.

Upon hearing this, Sang Lezhi didn't delay any longer and quickly ran towards the observation room.

The base is laid out in an inner and outer city pattern, with the observation room and trading center as the innermost layer. Surrounding the observation room are the physics, space, medicine, and original book analysis groups, which were established in the early stages. Each of them occupies a three-story building.

Further out are other research buildings for various disciplines. All of these buildings are three-story structures connected by bridges on the second floor, allowing for easy communication between them.

Agricultural Science was an exception. Although it was the first group to be established, it occupied the eastern side of the third circle due to experimental issues. The entire eastern side was their experimental site and the three small buildings belonging to Agricultural Science. Li Mingguo and others also had their offices in the third circle.

The remaining small buildings and the fourth ring of small buildings housed departments responsible for the base's security, such as the guard section.

So by the time Sang Lezhi ran from the agricultural science building to the observation room, Zhang Su had already arrived at the observation room from the medical building.

"This... I don't know where to begin." Zhang Su looked at the little yellow chick on the table in front of her, completely at a loss as to how to examine it.

"How about... we draw blood first?" Sang Lezhi bit her lip, hesitated for a long time, and finally uttered a sentence.

"I'll give it a try..." Zhang Su sighed silently, took out the smallest syringe, pinched Sang Zhitao's delicate little wing, and gently pricked it at the base of the wing.

"Ouch!" Sang Zhitao couldn't help but cry out in pain.

"One more question," Sang Lezhi looked at her sister, hesitated for a moment, "How do we communicate with each other?"

Lin Jing stared intently at Sang Zhitao for a while before clapping her hands: "Isn't there that! A tablet!"

“Oh right.” Sang Lezhi nodded, ran to a cabinet on the side and rummaged through it for a long time before finally finding the tablet that Sang Zhitao had used several times.

After adjusting it, she placed the tablet opposite Sang Zhitao.

Sang Zhitao looked at the platform, jumped forward a few times, and started tapping the screen with her mouth.

She was initially worried that her bite might have punched a hole in the screen, but the tablet was a product of the base, so its quality was undoubtedly top-notch. With her current strength, not only was there no hole, but not even a white dot appeared.

"Something unexpected happened," she typed with difficulty.

"Are you alright?" Several girls crowded around her, while the others remained silent.

Sang Zhitao shook her head before continuing to type on the tablet: "The orc world was corrupted by the Blackrock. I obtained a world fragment to save them, but after that I fell off the tower and was forcibly brought back."

After typing those thirty-odd words, Sang Zhitao felt weak in the knees and dizzy, and she plopped down on the table.

Sang Lezhi pinched her little mouth tenderly and rubbed her little hands before turning to the others: "How about we talk about it tomorrow? Let Tao Tao rest first."

The others had only come because they were worried that Tao Tao was hurt. Now that they saw that she was alright, they naturally didn't ask her to answer questions overnight. They all smiled, said goodbye, and left.

Sang Lezhi received another call from Li Mingguo. After briefly explaining the situation, she hung up and carried Sang Zhitao to the bed, saying, "You should get some sleep first."

Sang Zhitao had already exhausted most of her energy saving people, and after returning to Earth, she was faced with the situation of being in the middle of the night. Her unique bird genes made her really want to get a good night's sleep.

With her beady eyes closed and her feet resting on the bed railing, Sang Zhitao slept soundly.

The next morning, Li Mingguo was the first to return, along with his older brother Sang Leping.

"How is Tao Tao?" Li Mingguo came to the observation room to see her as soon as possible.

Sang Zhitao shook her head, then walked to the tablet and typed two words: "Don't worry."

Seeing this, Li Mingguo didn't say much. He was too busy with other things and could only spare a little time to come and see her before leaving again.

"Le Ping, we've pretty much finished discussing things. Let your company's vice president handle the follow-up. You should spend some quality time with Tao Tao at the base." He looked at Sang Le Ping and earnestly instructed him.

Sang Leping was naturally happy. After nodding in agreement, he held up the mulberry peach and said goodbye to the other party.

Sang Zhitao spent a whole day painstakingly typing out her experiences in the orc world on a tablet.

"Oh dear, my little chick, you've worked so hard~" The older brother held her in one hand and kept massaging her with the other.

When it was time to sleep at night, Sang Zhitao couldn't fall asleep. She paced back and forth on the bed, her whole body radiating anxiety.

"What's wrong with Tao Tao?" Sang Lezhi looked at her younger sister with a worried expression.

"Looks like we can't find a suitable place to sleep." Sang Leping raised an eyebrow, his teasing expression barely concealing the worry in his eyes.

"Tao Tao, what's wrong?" Sang Lezhi held her in her hands and asked carefully.

Sang Zhitao kept stepping on her palm, and her wings trembled along with it.

Professor Ling Ping, who had just been invited by Zhang Su to examine Tao Tao, asked with some suspicion, "Does this look like she's about to build a nest?"

"Huh?" Sang Leping looked bewildered. "Isn't Tao Tao a chick? Do chicks need to build nests too?"

Professor Lingping shook his head slightly and pointed at Sang Zhitao, saying, "Look at Taotao now, she's been restless and anxious, and she's making downward attacking motions with her beak while also making calls. This is very consistent with the behavior of birds before they build their nests."

She paused for a moment, then nodded and said, "Of course, but chickens usually dig holes to build nests. I don't see how Tao Tao can build a three-dimensional nest like a bird?"

"Isn't she a chick? Isn't nest building a pre-breeding activity?" Sang Lezhi, who knew some biology, quickly asked.

Professor Ling Ping smiled and explained, "Although the outside is a chick, Tao Tao is an adult and a beastman, so some differences are inevitable."

Sang Leping took Sang Zhitao from his sister in surprise: "Didn't the original story say it was about a little rooster? Roosters build nests too?"

Professor Ling Ping quickly interjected, "In nature, it's common for males to build nests, and Tao Tao might not necessarily be one..."

Before she could finish speaking, Sang Leping tossed Sang Zhitao into the air and said, "Speaking of which, aren't the butts of roosters and hens different? Or... Lezhi, why don't you take a look?"

"Brother!!" Sang Lezhi quickly snatched his sister back from his arms, carefully placed Sang Zhitao down, and examined her body closely.

Zhang Su slapped him on the back: "Why did you throw her away!"

Seeing how angry the two were, Sang Leping finally realized what was happening and apologized repeatedly, "I didn't realize it for a moment. I thought I had a sandbag in my hand, and I couldn't help myself..."

"This is your sister!" Sang Lezhi said angrily, stomping on his foot.

Sang Leping quickly raised his hands in surrender and apologized.

Sang Zhitao only realized what was happening then. Her already irritable temper due to the nest-building period was like dynamite meeting a spark. She spread her little wings and bounced onto Sang Leping's face like a yellow marble.

Its beady eyes widened from black beans to the size of yellow beans, and its tiny paws kicked his face several times, while its delicate wings flapped vigorously on his face.

"Wow, what a little bird striving for success!" Sang Leping felt no pain at all, only that his little sister was incredibly cute.

Zhang Su glanced at him and couldn't help but cough lightly.

His sister's anger didn't frighten him; instead, his girlfriend's warning startled Sang Leping, who quickly tore his sister's clothes off and tried to coax her, all the while stealing glances at Zhang Su several times.

While the young people were having fun, the person in the orc world who looked exactly like Sang Zhitao suddenly spat out a mouthful of black liquid after Sang Zhitao's sudden departure.

"Cough cough, you escaped again..." She struggled to sit up and crawled out of the dilapidated coffin.

Feeling the fresh air of the mountains and forests, she took a few deep breaths and looked up at the sky.

What should have been an ordinary blue sky and white clouds took on a different appearance in her eyes.

A layer resembling a glass dome tightly enveloped the entire orc world, and huge cracks were covered by green mist, then grew smaller and smaller until they disappeared.

She frowned, quickly flew into the sky, and carefully touched the glass dome, but when she touched it, she was sent flying several steps backward as if struck by lightning.

She quickly flew a few steps to the side, found the nearest huge crack, and squeezed out of it before the green mist could reach her.

Outside was nothingness, with all sorts of clouds flying around, each cloud encased in a glass dome.

She cautiously looked around, clutching her chest, and black liquid kept spitting out of her mouth.

The black liquid that was expelled slowly gathered under her skirt, eventually forming black tentacles that spread out in all directions.

The black tentacles kept touching the clouds, but were met with resistance from the glass dome, and disappeared into the void one by one.

The girl was spitting out more and more black liquid.

She flew forward a few steps with difficulty and saw a cloud covered in scars on a glass dome.

A glint flashed in her eyes, and she quickly flew towards the cloud, sending more than a dozen tentacles outside the cloud to rapidly attack the most heavily scarred areas.

After the tentacles disappeared, more sprouted from beneath her feet. As she continued her attacks, a huge crack finally appeared on the glass dome, accompanied by a crisp shattering sound.

The girl flew towards the glass dome, enduring the excruciating pain of being struck by lightning, and crawled into the crack.

Meanwhile, Sang Zhitao, at the base, faced Team Leader Sheng An and received a clue to the next world.

"You mean, I'll be a chick in my next world too?" Sang Zhitao tilted her head, squatted in the makeshift bird's nest in the base, and tapped her beak rapidly on the tablet.

Team leader Sheng An nodded. Unicorn: "To be precise, it's a phoenix cub."

Sang Zhitao gasped, leaned back, and sat directly in the bird's nest, her face filled with disbelief. She turned to tap on the tablet and exclaimed, "This body really is a phoenix cub?!"

Team Leader Sheng An thought for a moment before explaining, "To be precise, you only became a phoenix cub after you entered that world and took over the other person's identity."

Sang Zhitao couldn't help but poke her chin with her wing: "Alright then."
