Chapter 91 Rescuing People Amidst the Chaos: The Noon Riot...
The midday riots were even more rampant and frenzied than Sang Zhitao and the others had imagined.
A dozen or so aircraft, carrying a large number of weapons, descended from the sky, ignoring the Duke's warnings and opened fire immediately. In an instant, the entire Starshine District was filled with the roar of artillery fire.
"Let's go! To the underground pipes!" Seeing that the riot had already begun, Sang Zhitao turned around and jumped into the pipes.
Tou Lan and the others didn't linger and jumped in as well.
The sound of artillery fire was thus blocked by a manhole cover.
"Run!" Sang Zhitao shouted and ran quickly inside, with the others following closely behind.
"Is it too late?!" Tou Lan shouted as she ran.
It's not that they don't intend to act cautiously, but with so many casualties, even though there's a land barrier between them, it's still very noisy. If they don't shout, they probably won't be able to hear each other at all.
"Never mind that, let's go take a look first!" Sang Zhitao shouted from the front.
The roar grew louder, and the pipes shook constantly, all due to the artillery fire from above. Sang Zhitao was incredibly grateful for the base's dedicated training, which allowed her to maintain a decent running speed while dodging and weaving.
"I told you it was him!" Sang Zhitao shouted instinctively as she looked at the wall with a large hole in it.
The others also saw the hole and followed Sang Zhitao inside without hesitation.
After running along the much shorter pipe for a long time, we came to another wall with a large hole in it.
As soon as Sang Zhitao stepped inside, she felt her foot slip and quickly warned, "Watch out!!"
Before the people behind could react, they rolled into the pipe like dumplings being dropped into a pot, sliding down the pipe all the way down.
When they finally stopped, everyone was completely disoriented from being thrown around.
"Isn't this an underground pipe? How come there's such a big slope? Aren't they afraid that the garbage and sewage they throw here will pile up and they won't be able to get up?" Touqing rubbed his arm and couldn't help but complain.
"This doesn't seem to be a pipe anymore." Touhuang held up his flashlight and looked around.
The group then rubbed their necks and looked around.
This is no longer an underground pipeline, but an abandoned laboratory.
“This looks like the first-generation laboratory,” Touhuang said, pointing to a file on the table.
The group gathered around and saw that the document was titled "Preliminary Experimental Record of Pollution Disease".
Looking at the date above, it's strikingly from eighty years ago.
"Why eighty years ago?" Sang Zhitao frowned, her face full of confusion.
“The Dark Duke is only in his fifties this year,” Tou Lan said, frowning.
"It seems this experiment has been going on for much longer than we thought..." Touhuang sighed.
Sang Zhitao waved her hand dismissively: "Who cares when it was established? We just need to deal with the leader."
"It's probably no use now, saving lives is our priority." She looked around and said to the crowd.
Hearing her say that, the others naturally stopped talking and hurried to find an exit.
"No need to look anymore, this is it." Tou Lan pointed to the corner where the door had been blown open.
"This road was leveled with explosives... I'm so envious," Sang Zhitao couldn't help but exclaim.
The group didn't chat much and quickly walked out the door.
They crawled through every hole they encountered along the way and made their way to the test area without incident.
"Is the elevator working?" Sang Zhitao asked, looking at the nearly empty laboratory.
With his yellowed fingers flying across the keyboard, he replied, "Give me a minute."
The others, armed and on high alert, quickly opened the elevator doors after a minute.
They quickly climbed into the elevator and pressed the up button.
"This elevator is too old, it must be an eighty-year-old model. I just checked, it goes up two and a half floors and goes right up to the place where the test subjects are held." Touhuang stared intently at the screen in his hand.
"You control the elevator, we'll go up and rescue them," Sang Zhitao instructed.
The elevator stopped two floors above the floor. Touqing pushed open the elevator cover and looked online: "There's a hole in the wall."
“It seems he came out from here too,” Sang Zhitao added, before looking at Touhuang, “Could you let the elevator go up half a floor?”
Touhuang glanced at the screen in his hand, nodded, and operated the elevator. Sure enough, the elevator went up half a floor.
The elevator doors opened, revealing a hole. Several people walked out one after another and arrived at the transparent house where the test subjects were being held.
Seeing that there were now four or five people locked in each room, a hint of joy flashed across the faces of the group, and they hurriedly stepped forward to stick a slap on each doorknob.
The people in the room didn't understand what these people were doing, especially what they were sticking on the doorknob.
Sang Zhitao checked the time and didn't send them to give instructions to each of the detainees individually. She simply shouted to Touhuang, "Bomb!"
The transparent man pressed the button, and with a series of "bang bang bang" sounds, the lock on the transparent room was blown off.
"Don't just stand there, get them out of the elevator!" Sang Zhitao shouted to her companions who were stunned by the explosion.
Tou Hui was the first to react. He rushed into the room next door, grabbing the people inside and shouting, "Quick, let's go! We're here to rescue you!"
The room held two adults and three children. The three children were still in a daze, but the two adults' eyes lit up. They realized what was happening and, carrying and pulling the children, squeezed them into the large hole in the wall.
In other rooms, adults with children and older children holding younger children's hands, pushed and pulled by Touhuang and others, all squeezed into the elevator together.
"No more room, next wave!" A yellowish voice came from inside the elevator.
A look of panic flashed across the faces of those who were left behind, and the unease that had already been creeping back into their hearts returned.
Seeing the crowd begin to riot, Sang Zhitao quickly patted her hand to reassure them, saying, "Don't worry, we're here. We'll all get out of here."
Seeing that the rescuer was still alive, the anxious people felt reassured and calmed down, eagerly looking at the cave entrance and waiting for the promise to be fulfilled.
Soon, the sound of machinery running could be heard from inside the cave, and people immediately showed excitement.
"Alright, hurry up and come up." A yellowish voice came from inside.
Perhaps it was the elevator's timely return that calmed the people at the scene, who subconsciously pushed the children forward.
The older children pushed the younger children in front of them.
Although the children didn't understand what they were supposed to do, they obediently listened to the adults' instructions and lined up one by one to enter the elevator.
"Alright, wait for the next batch." The yellowish voice came again, but no one on the scene showed any panic or urgency.
After going back and forth more than ten times, they finally managed to bring everyone underground.
"Let's go too," Touhui said.
"Jingqian, Touzi, you take them back to the spaceship along the pipes. We'll go up there and take a look," Sang Zhitao said after thinking for a moment.
"What do you want to do?" Tou Lan frowned as she looked at her.
Sang Zhitao said, "There were no younger siblings with the gray hair among that group of people. I suspect they are in the lab upstairs. Let's go check it out."
"Let's not, just in case..." Touhui hesitated for a moment before shaking his head.
“But we’ve already come all this way,” Sang Zhitao continued to persuade.
“I hear the gunfire outside has subsided a lot. I suspect the riot is about to end. We must take the people away first.” Touhui still shook his head and refused.
“But…” Sang Zhitao had no intention of giving up.
Touhui raised his hand to refuse again, but Toulan said, "Ten minutes. If we can't find anyone within ten minutes, we must leave."
Hearing him say that, Touhui indeed stopped talking.
Without delay, the group entered the elevator, climbed several floors, and then stuck a dart on the wall, blasting a large hole in it.
The lab technicians were startled by the loud noise.
Sang Zhitao and the others were also startled by the person who was still conducting the experiment.
As the two groups stared at each other, Sang Zhitao gently tossed the dagger to the feet of the person opposite her, then nodded slightly to Touhuang.
Without hesitation, Touhuang pressed the button. With a loud "bang," one experimenter was killed, and the surrounding experimenters were all seriously injured in the blast.
The experimenters were taken aback by how swift and ruthless these people were, and were momentarily stunned, unsure how to retaliate.
It was precisely because they didn't react in time that Touqing and Touhui swiftly and cleanly knocked them unconscious.
"Never mind them for now, get the people out of the lab quickly!" Sang Zhitao shouted as she saw Tou Qing was about to check on the lab technicians.
Hearing her say that, Touqing quickly stuck the gun to the laboratory door. After a few explosions, the door was opened and more than a dozen Mirror Clan members were rescued.
Seeing the familiar faces, Tou Hui's eyes reddened, but before he could reunite with his family, he heard Sang Zhitao shout, "Let's leave first."
Upon hearing this, Tou Hui quickly picked up several children and ran towards the cave entrance.
They split into two groups before returning to the old laboratory.
"Let's go quickly. We didn't have time to kill those lab technicians, and they'll probably report it soon," Sang Zhitao said, and was the first to run outside.
The others followed without looking back, and soon the group reunited with the people they had initially rescued under the manhole cover.
"Where's Tou Zi?" Tou Lan asked, looking at the Jing Qian sisters who were healing everyone.
The two sisters pointed upwards, then pointed to the crowd.
Tou Lan then realized and said, "He went to pilot the spaceship?"
The two sisters exchanged a glance and nodded.
"Luckily, the spaceship isn't far away; it should be here soon." Touhuang glanced at the screen and breathed a sigh of relief.
As soon as he finished speaking, the manhole cover was opened, and the group quickly became alert until a bluish face appeared above them before they relaxed.
"Come on up first." Touqing lifted the manhole cover.
A group of people, the older ones carrying the younger ones, pulling each other along, quickly climbed up.
The narrow alley was suddenly packed with people.
Touqing quickened her pace, pointed to the alley entrance, and said, "I've opened the door, let's go."
He then set an example by being the first to enter the seemingly empty alleyway and disappear from everyone's sight.
Those who weren't from the Mirror Clan were still somewhat bewildered, but the Mirror Clan members quickly realized what was happening and led their people into the spaceship.
There were so many people that the small spaceship was so crowded that there was hardly any room to stand.
"It's like the subway during rush hour..." Sang Zhitao couldn't help but complain.
Before Tou Lan, whose face was being squeezed so tightly that it was almost deformed, could look at him in confusion, the surroundings suddenly relaxed, and then there were soft gasps all around. Looking up, the spaceship's space had expanded considerably, and many people fell to the ground as the space suddenly expanded.
Sang Zhitao looked curiously at the control panel and saw two tall, slender women from the Mirror Clan operating the spaceship.
