Chapter 50 My First Treasure in Life Acquired! Sang Zhi Tao...
Sang Zhitao sat on the soft bed, looking at the iron bar thrown at the door. The blood on it had long since dried into a dark red color. She stared at it for a long time before letting out a deep sigh.
Touching her pounding heart, she looked at her fair, delicate hands, noticing the few drops of blood on them, and a wave of fear suddenly washed over her.
"I... I actually killed someone?" Sang Zhitao murmured in disbelief.
“But…” Sang Zhitao felt her heart, which had calmed down, and said blankly, “But… how can I not be afraid, and even be happy…”
She cupped her face in her hands, a look of terror flashing across her face: "I...I'm not going to become a serial killer, am I?"
"What am I going to do? How...how am I going to explain this to my older brother and sister..."
"Knock knock knock!" Just as she was becoming increasingly helpless, the knocking sounded on the door.
Before she could speak, Barron's voice came from outside the door: "Captain, may I come in?"
Sang Zhitao composed herself, straightened her clothes, and then said, "Come in."
Barron twisted the handle, pushed open the door, and stepped on the iron bar, almost falling over. He only breathed a sigh of relief when he grabbed the wooden door.
Sang Zhitao was still caught up in her emotions and didn't notice Baron's movements.
Barron, seeing this, understood and sighed, saying, "Is the captain afraid?"
Sang Zhitao remained silent for a moment before nodding silently.
Seeing this, Baron silently walked to the table opposite her, looked at Sang Zhitao and pondered for a moment before saying, "Actually, I was also very scared when I killed someone for the first time. I was even awakened by nightmares for several days."
Sang Zhitao was drawn to his words and looked at him intently, hoping to gain some strength from him.
Baron sighed and continued, "But Captain, that's how it is at sea. It's more cruel and straightforward than in land-based countries. If Your Highness really can't adapt, I'll arrange for someone to send you back at the next port."
Sang Zhitao looked at him for a long time before sighing and saying, "I'm not afraid that I'm killing someone."
Baron glanced at her in surprise, his face showing confusion.
“At first, I was indeed afraid of taking lives with my own hands, but what I feared later was that I felt no remorse for such killings, but rather I was happy and enjoyed it, as if I was born without the emotion of compassion.” Sang Zhitao lowered her eyes to avoid Baron’s gaze.
“I see…” Baron was indeed surprised, but then he smiled and said, “In that case, Your Highness is very suitable to be a pirate.”
Sang Zhitao suddenly looked up at him.
Baron continued, "What are pirates? They are a group of cruel, murderous, and inhuman people. We live on the sea, living from day to day. If we didn't have a strong enough heart, we would have become one of the millions of souls lost at sea long ago."
“I see…” Sang Zhitao nodded.
“Of course, and Your Highness is not as cold-blooded and bloodthirsty as you imagine. At least in our eyes, you are such a soft-hearted captain,” Baron said.
"Is it because I'm rich and generous?" Sang Zhitao couldn't help but complain.
Baron burst into laughter, then composed himself and said, "Your Highness, believe me, with a strong heart, perhaps you really can create a miracle."
"To become the Pirate King?" Sang Zhitao raised an eyebrow, the myriad emotions in her heart having faded considerably during her conversation with Baron.
“Why not? You will surely become a legend. Believe in your talent.” Baron stood up and gave her a knightly salute before straightening up and saying, “Your soldiers are waiting for you. Please come in.”
Baron made an inviting gesture, extending his hand and looking at Sang Zhitao.
Sang Zhitao took a deep breath, silently placed her hands on those hands, and used the support to stand up.
"Please wait a moment, Captain." Baron stepped forward and carefully straightened her clothes before bowing and inviting her, "Please."
Sang Zhitao arrived at the door, looked at the iron rod, remained silent for a moment, reached out and picked it up, turned to look at Baron and asked, "I deliberately provoked this war, so is it normal for me to be weak afterward?"
Baron raised an eyebrow and said, “Of course, courageous challenges and kind compassion are not mutually exclusive, my captain.”
Sang Zhitao gave him a deep look before turning around, walking out of the room, and going straight to the deck.
Seeing the pirates stop what they were doing and stare intently at her, she raised the iron rod in her hand and shouted, "Brave warriors, today you have proven yourselves with your abilities, so tonight's spoils will not be used for public purposes; they will all be distributed to the warriors of the Anling!"
"Hoo! Long live the captain! Long live the captain!" The pirates of the Anling shouted excitedly.
Baron watched her retreating figure, raising an eyebrow. He was somewhat surprised by her actions, yet also felt that it was quite natural given her personality.
"Speaking of which, why did you insist on crashing into Bhatia's ship? And how did you know you would crash into him?" After arranging the follow-up matters and seeing off Eureka, who was impatient to listen to their conversation, Baron looked at Sang Zhitao and asked curiously.
Sang Zhitao thought for a moment before saying, "Just consider me as having a special source of intelligence. If we continue down this road, we will come across a reef island. There are many good things on it. Remember to have the crew stop."
Barron looked at her with a look of disgust, as if she thought he was being fooled.
Sang Zhitao smiled, patted his shoulder, yawned, and waved as she walked away, saying, "I'm not talking to you anymore, I'm going to sleep."
Baron watched her departing figure, a silent twitch at the corner of his mouth, then glanced at the cheering pirates, couldn't help but chuckle, and turned back to his room.
Just as Sang Zhitao said, after the ship had been sailing for about three days, a reef island appeared ahead.
"There really is a reef island!" After hearing the news, Baron knocked on Sang Zhitao's door and looked at her in surprise, saying, "You actually told me the truth."
Sang Zhitao jumped off the stool instantly and ran outside quickly, saying to Baron as she ran, "What I said is never false."
He hurried up to the deck, took the binoculars handed to him by someone, and looked at them.
The reef wasn't very large, just big enough for their main ship to dock. A distinctive red boulder on the reef told Sang Zhitao that this was the place she was looking for.
"I knew it!" Sang Zhitao clapped her hands triumphantly before remembering to hand the binoculars to the person next to her.
It was only then that she realized the person beside her was the little pirate she had rescued the night before: "Huh? It's you?"
"Captain! My name is Little John." The little pirate's face was filled with barely concealed excitement.
“Great name, thank you, John. Please return this telescope to Barron.” Sang Zhitao had already seen Barron’s name engraved on the telescope and said with a smile.
John nodded emphatically, put the binoculars back in his pocket, and then ran towards Barron's room.
The reef didn't seem too far away, but Sang Zhitao's fleet still didn't get close to it until evening.
"Let them rest here for a while, then bring two more people with you," Sang Zhitao instructed Balun, looking at the bright moonlight.
Barron nodded in agreement, and after making arrangements, he came over with a few trusted men carrying oil lamps, including Little John from earlier that day.
Sang Zhitao greeted him, then looked at the moon and recalled the records in the book. Following the moonlight as described in the book, she walked forward for about thirty meters, then east for fifteen meters, and then south for seven meters before stopping at a rocky beach.
Looking at a strangely colored rock in the rocky beach, Sang Zhitao's lips curled into a smug smile. She winked at Balun, pointed at the rock, and said, "Dig this thing out."
Baron raised an eyebrow, waved his hand, and led his men to take out tools and start digging.
Before long, the stone was overturned to one side, revealing a dark hole.
"Wow! It's a treasure cave!" Little John exclaimed excitedly, and was about to run down the cave.
"Are you looking to die!" Sang Zhitao grabbed him and scolded, "Be careful, there's poison gas down there."
"Huh?" After hearing this, Little John first looked at the cave entrance with lingering fear, then took a few steps back in terror.
Sang Zhitao took an oil lamp from his hand and placed it at the entrance of the cave. Seeing that the candle flame was still burning strongly despite the flickering light in the night sky, she breathed a sigh of relief and said to Baron, "Let's catch an animal and put it in to try."
Baron glanced at the cave entrance, thought for a moment, and said, "Let's forget about the animals. The little guys have it tough enough as they are. Let's use Bhatia. He deserves to die more than the animals."
Sang Zhitao was somewhat surprised that he hadn't killed Batia, but he didn't say anything more.
Baron soon returned with Batia.
Sang Zhitao glanced at the much thinner-looking Bhatia in surprise, then at Baron, opened her mouth but didn't say anything, and only took a few steps back to make way.
Bhatia was already barely clinging to life. He didn't react much when he realized he was being used as a stepping stone. It wasn't until Baron whispered something in his ear that he grabbed an oil lamp with a strong will to survive and rushed into the cave.
Not long after, he shouted from below, and Baron carefully went down with his knife, after which the others followed.
But as soon as he stepped down, he heard Batia say, "You promised me!"
Sang Zhitao was the last to go down. What she saw was Baron stabbing Batiya in the heart, while Batiya's eyes were filled with fear and the will to survive.
The last thing he heard was Baron whispering in his ear, "My father begged you the same thing, and what did you do?"
Upon hearing this, the light in Bhatia's eyes instantly went out. This notorious pirate, who was quite famous in the area, died on an unnamed reef island.
This scene also served as a stark warning to Sang Zhitao that this world was far more dangerous than any she had ever experienced. There was no pampering from Yi Lei, nor any robots like 89757 willing to risk their lives to protect her. Instead, there was a cruelty and blatantness she could never have imagined.
"Were you scared?" Baron glanced at her and asked.
Sang Zhitao shook her head and gestured towards the depths of the treasure cave, saying, "Let's move the things inside out first."
Baron glanced at Bhatia's corpse, thought for a moment, and nodded, saying, "Alright, you go up and wait there first. I'll take care of Bhatia later."
Sang Zhitao nodded, agreed, and turned back to the cave entrance.
Looking at the moonlight and the sea reflected in it, an indescribable sense of loneliness suddenly overwhelmed her, causing her to let out a deep sigh.
