A furious roar suddenly rang out in the bustling street.
Startled, the horse reared up and neighed. Passersby turned to look and saw a handsome young man, his hair standing on end in anger, draw a silver dagger from his waist, imbue it with spiritual energy, and throw it forward.
"ah--"
Several panicked shouts came from the crowd. A short dagger, accompanied by a gust of wind, bypassed seven or eight passersby in the middle and stabbed towards a slender man in black at the far end.
The man in black, his face filled with terror, shoved aside the young man in white beside him and turned to run away, howling spinelessly in front of everyone, "Great hero, spare my life!!"
The man in black was about twenty years old, with very delicate features, like a pampered young master. Even though his face was full of fear and unease, he was still very handsome.
He darted and dodged the dagger through the crowd, but the silver dagger seemed to have eyes, following him everywhere he went.
Xie Shuci was utterly devastated!
He had just encountered the blind boy last night and was quite startled. Today, before he could even have a hot meal, he ran into his old enemy! His grand ambitions hadn't even begun, and he was already on the verge of losing his life to the blade.
"Help!! I know I was wrong!!"
Xie Shuci's screams echoed through the long street. Many of the onlookers recognized Xie Shuci and retreated to the sides of the road, watching the spectacle with great interest.
"Great hero! Great hero Li! I know I was wrong!"
What is backbone compared to life?
If circumstances allowed, Young Master Xie would definitely have been willing to beg for mercy and cling to Young Master Li's leg. After all, it was indeed that idiot original owner who caused the trouble; he had taken over someone else's identity, so he had to bear the consequences.
Young Master Li sat on the horse with his arms crossed, watching Xie Shuci cry and beg for mercy in a sorry state. The anger on his face finally eased.
"I said that day, from now on I will beat you every time I see you!" Young Master Li said viciously.
There was a deadly thing behind Xie Shuci. He dared not stop for a moment. The short dagger seemed to be teasing him, chasing him at a leisurely pace. It would speed up when he was fast and slow down when he was slow. It was clear that it did not want to take his life, but simply toyed with him.
Damn it! That guy surnamed Li! A scholar can be killed but not dishonored!
Xie Shuci was so angry he was practically grinding his teeth, but he kept begging for mercy.
In a daze, he glanced at the roadside. In his haste, he had pushed the blind boy away. The blind boy was now leaning against the stone wall by the roadside, a smile playing on his lips, completely unaware of Xie Shuci's current predicament.
Xie Shuci felt a lump in his throat. Reason told him that the blind boy couldn't see or hear and had no idea what was happening. But seeing the blind boy standing leisurely by the roadside like the onlookers, he couldn't help but curse in his heart, "You heartless little brat!"
"Brother, I really know I was wrong! I was out of my mind and didn't know my own limitations. I... I was blind to have hit you..."
Young Master Li, who had initially felt triumphant, immediately became displeased upon hearing these words. "Xie Shuci, what do you mean? Are you saying that I am not as good as those women you usually flirt with?"
Xie Shuci quickly shook her head: "No, no, no! You're much prettier than them!"
To everyone's surprise, Young Master Li was even more displeased, gritting his teeth as he said, "How dare you compare me to those beauties? Xie Shuci, although I promised the sect leader I wouldn't take your life, you've brought this upon yourself!"
"Damn it! Are you out of your mind, Li? What kind of lame excuse do you have for wanting to kill me? I didn't do anything to you, is it really necessary? Besides, we're both men, sleeping together doesn't hurt anyone, and I'm not ugly, am I? Maybe you'll be the one who benefits!" Xie Shuci got carried away and started cursing.
As a hot-blooded young man, he had never been treated with such humiliation before.
"You're asking for it!"
Young Master Li's face darkened several shades in a visible speed, his eyes filled with murderous intent. With a wave of his long arm, spiritual energy flew from his fingertips to the short dagger. The short dagger gathered power in the air, bent, and then unfolded, rushing towards Xie Shuci like an arrow released from a bow.
"Holy crap—help!"
Xie Shuci turned around and saw that the dagger had suddenly increased its speed. He was so frightened that he wet himself, and the hot blood in his body instantly turned cold. He cried out for mercy: "Hero Li, I was wrong! I was blind to your greatness! I was a toad trying to eat swan meat! I overestimated myself!"
Despite his pleas for mercy, Young Master Li had no intention of letting him go, and the short dagger showed no signs of slowing down.
Xie Shuci hadn't eaten a single grain of rice in the past two days, and with all this commotion, he was completely exhausted. Beads of sweat streamed down his forehead, and his vision was blurry. The young master Xie was inwardly wailing. He hadn't even made a fortune yet, he hadn't even accomplished anything great, and he was going to die like this?! He was truly unwilling to accept it!
As Xie Shuci's escape movements slowed, the short dagger stabbed straight towards Xie Shuci's back.
At the critical moment, a small pebble flew from some unknown corner and struck the blade of the short dagger with a "clang". Due to the close distance, the pebble was cut into pieces by the strong wind. The short dagger emitted a brief hum and trembled slightly, changing direction just before piercing Xie Shuci's body.
The short dagger veered off course, passing under Xie Shuci's armpit and plunging into the stone wall beside him. A huge crack immediately appeared in the wall, the entire blade disappearing into the stone. It's not hard to imagine that if this dagger had struck Xie Shuci, it would have pierced his chest and killed him instantly.
"Who is it?" Young Master Li's expression turned serious as he looked up in the direction from which the pebble had come, only to see a white-clad boy of about fifteen or sixteen years old. The boy was extremely handsome, but he had many wounds on his body and his eyes were lifeless, so he was probably blind.
Young Master Li had no suspicions and only glanced at it before looking away.
Xie Shuci was stunned by this turn of events. He stared at the crack in the stone wall, which seemed about to collapse at any moment. His face turned pale and then red. That was a really ruthless attack! If that had been stuck in Xie Shuci's body, he would have been dead in an instant.
"Who is it? Show yourself!" Young Master Li was still searching for the person who had secretly made the move.
Just then, a Taoist priest in a green robe rode forward on horseback, glanced at Xie Shuci casually, and said to Young Master Li, "Young Master, don't lower yourself to the level of such petty people. We have important business to attend to on this trip."
"Thank you. You petty scoundrel." Shu Ci gritted his teeth and glared at Young Master Li.
Young Master Li was even more furious when he saw that the man still dared to glare at him. He raised his arm to dismount, but the middle-aged man pressed down on his shoulder, slowly shook his head, and said in a low voice, "It's not the right time."
When Xie Shuci was expelled from his sect, they promised the Xie family head that they would not pursue the matter further, and it would be difficult to go back on their word in front of so many people.
Young Master Li gritted his teeth unwillingly, glared back at Xie Shuci, and then left with the middle-aged man.
After Young Master Li left, the onlookers stared at Xie Shuci with mocking eyes, their gazes filled with schadenfreude. Did Xie Shuci, who wouldn't dare challenge Young Master Li, fear these ordinary people? Of course, he glared back at them one by one: "What are you looking at?"
Fortunately, he had escaped with his life, so Xie Shuci decided not to leave the inn for the next few days to avoid running into this little devil again.
Xie Shuci rubbed his sore shoulders and walked back to the little blind boy's side. The little blind boy was still leaning against the wall in the same position as before, with his head slightly lowered and his eyes fixed on the ground, very quiet.
"Hey." Xie Shuci kicked his toe. He was still in a bad mood, so his movements were neither gentle nor patient.
The little blind man hesitated and raised his head, seemingly unsure if the person who came was Xie Shuci, and carefully reached out his right hand to feel towards Xie Shuci.
Xie Shuci was some distance away from him, so he naturally couldn't touch her. Now he was getting a little anxious, his brows furrowed, and he looked somewhat helpless. Xie Shuci couldn't stand seeing him in such a pitiful state, so he grabbed his hand in annoyance.
The blind boy grabbed his hand, seemingly recognizing Xie Shuci, and breathed a sigh of relief without making it obvious. He then wrote in Xie Shuci's palm, "Where have you been?"
Xie Shuci was too lazy to argue with him. She put the back of his hand to her lips and said in a harsh tone, "A gust of evil wind blew by the roadside and blew me away."
The blind man was taken aback, then chuckled, moved his lips, and silently said, "I thought you were gone."
Xie Shuci felt a mix of emotions. The little blind man could only perceive things around him through touch, without sound or sight. If he couldn't recover, even if Xie Shuci died in front of him one day, the little blind man would be oblivious.
"No." Xie Shuci shook his head.
The appearance of Young Master Li distracted him, and Xie Shuci was not in the mood to find a restaurant to eat, so he led the little blind man back to the inn, intending to eat something casually.
After finding a table at the inn and sitting down, Xie Shuci asked the blind man if he had any dietary restrictions. The blind man shook his head, so he asked the waiter to bring out a few of the inn's signature dishes.
After ordering, the waiter didn't leave immediately, but chatted with Xie Shuci for a few moments.
"Young Master Xie, the town is quite lively today. Even I could hear your voice from two streets away."
The waiter really knew how to rub salt in the wound. Xie Shuci glared at him with a dark expression, but the waiter just grinned and didn't seem to care. He glanced at the quietly sitting blind boy and lowered his voice, saying, "Young Master Xie, where did you find this young master? He's so handsome with his fair skin. What a lucky man! Young Master Li is no match for him."
Xie Shuci rolled her eyes at him. "Don't talk nonsense. The little blind boy is still young. Do you think I'm that kind of beast?"
The waiter blinked innocently: "Young? It's that butcher named Liu at the end of the street. His daughter is only fifteen years old, and you go up to propose to him every few days, don't you? Butcher Liu chased you away with his knife several times, but you didn't give up! Besides, he's not young anymore. It's perfectly normal for him to get married and have children at his age."
Xie Shuci put on a stern face. Even though he knew the little blind boy couldn't hear, he still glanced at him with a guilty look.
The blind boy lowered his head and fiddled with his teacup, his expression indifferent, showing no further reaction.
"Get lost, get lost, he's just a..." Xie Shuci waved his hand, trying to get rid of the person.
The blind man, for some unknown reason, suddenly grabbed Xie Shuci's swaying wrist, moved his palm upwards, and gently held it against Xie Shuci's warm palm.
The waiter raised his eyebrows, his lips moved slightly, and he silently uttered two words.
Xie Shuci: "..."
At that moment, he suddenly wished he could read lips.
The two words the waiter uttered were clearly "beast".
